PS3 a mistake

Aye I found the GC was like that too, apart from Wind Waker, everything else I played was usually Timesplitters, Smash Bros and Soul Calibur purely as practice so I could kick my mates arses neck time we played! lol.

Really, the PS3 has the exclusives I need for me to warrant buying one; GT5 and Ace Combat 7. No amount of "Woo look at the X360!" is gonna stop me from buying one. Halo 3 is the only thing that attracts me to the X360..but it's not enough I think.

Hey, another Ace Combat player, fu*k thosegames rule. biggrin.gif

In my opinion, calling a PS3 a mistake/failure is, to put it blatantly, stupid. Sure, the 360 managed to get hold of a few potential exclusives from Sony, but honestly I see no problem as long as they don't take MGS for themselves(don't you dare do it Kojima). I bought my PS3 around a couple weeks ago, and you know what? I'm fu*king happy with it, plain and simple.

While the 360 has blockbusters like Halo and Gears of War(overrated in my opinion, but great nonetheless), we've yet to see anything that would be considered a "real start" from Sony. You got Lair, Heavenly Sword, Killzone, and MGS4 just to name a few.

And, no matter how much technical lingo you can squeeze into a sentence, no one from any camp knows the true potential power of the PS3 or the 360, and even the Wii for that matter. Nearly everyone wants to see the best fall, and quite frankly I just don't see Sony being blown out like some are implying. I would really love to see Sony go back to being the company a decade ago, gathering incredibly huge amounts of third-party support and asking what we, the gamers, want.

Seems like noone wants em' over here. My local target had less 360s than the PS3s. The earliest that I found a CORE 360 at my Target was april 06'. PS3 60GB on the other hand, January 07'

Theres lots of Preorders over here, The Wii's kinda popular, but not so much, and the 360 always looks like it hasen't sold anything.... ( although I think thats prestocking as you have to contact the front desk to get one of them.)

Just like to clear something up. It wasn't the guy who designed ps3 at all that said that. It was the guy who own's valve, and was commenting on porting Half Life 2 to the ps3.

The Wii kinda popular? Retailers everywhere here are selling them like bloody hotcakes, well when they aren't out of stock that is. I don't doubt the PS3 is being pre-ordered alot, there are alot of mindless loyal Sony fanatics in Australia remember. tounge.gif

to back up what old freakeh said: During Christmas i would walk into any major chained retail store, and see at least one PS3 on sell floor, now whenever I walk into a store, i see them sitting on flats, waiting to be sold...

PS3 a mistake? You must all be mad.

Price wise the difference is marginal. £425 gets the 60GB PS3 with Blu-ray and HDMI. £260 Gets you an 20GB XBOX360 with an AV HD Cable, (Thats not true HD..) Then you need £150 for the HD-DVD Player. So thats £410 In total for a console which isnt outputing in true HD, and is down40GB of storage?? I think PS3 is the clear winner here.

This is the Next Generation of Gaming and you have all stupidly favored the lower console, presumbly because it came out sooner and is 'cheaper' i bet half of you didnt even know the xbox didnt have an HD-DVD player when you brought it.

That was the big difference maker too. The 360 came out and no one wanted to wait for anything else, so most just bought the 360. Now that the PS3 comes out, the majority is already with the 360. And most people will not admit they made a bad decision by going early. It wouldn't even matter if the PS3 could fly you to the moon, those 360 owners would still be digging for flaws.

Obviously this doesn't apply to every 360 owner, nor am I looking for an argument. This is just what I believe. It's a matter of people believing in the investment that they made, instead of looking at facts.

You're forgetting one crucial point. Not all of us want HD stuff, I personally would much prefer to wait till next year when I might possibly be able to afford a HDTV and then buy the HD-DVD addon for my HD Movies than be forced to pay tons extra for Blu-Ray and not use it for over a year, if ever... confused.gif

Also, the HD-DVD addon is £120. tounge.gif

Saying no one wants HD stuff is an incorrect statement, I think people want it, more people are switching now compared to before, some are waiting for prices to drop on HDTVs but what kind of television do you think people will get once they are ready to replace their SDTV?....and releasing PS3 HD ready is not really a mistake, it makes it future proof. Same with the 360. Both are HD systems and to fully experience them you need a HDTV.

If you don't want HD, get a Wii.

There are things you aren't considering. First off Blu-Ray != HD-DVD. Secondly, TrueHD is just a marketing scheme/name to make consumers think they have the best. Resolutions do go higher than 1080p (1920x1080) is already in line to be passed by 2160p (3840x2160). Thirdly, a majority of the ps3 content is not 1080p, nor does the PS3 have hardware or the proper scaling chip to play 1080p games at higher than 30fps. And also 1080p CAN BE VIEWED THROUGH VGA, no need for hdmi. Also back when the 360 came out, nobody even knew what hd-dvd really was. It has grown since then and IF AND ONLY IF, a person chooses HD-DVD, they can plop down more money for it. GAMERS, should not be forced to pay up extra to use their console for other things they don't want nor need, gaming is what they want, no need to force us into choosing a winner of HD content either. We don't want tacked on gaming features, we want GAMES FIRST, add-ons later. Also a lack of games, lack of many exclusives, high price, low stock for high demand, high stock for low demand and excessive stockpiling had made the POS P$3 seem like a dead system. Also consider that the reason that the prices aren't higher on the ps3 is because sony gets the money back through games, no high game sales also means loss of money to sony. Thus crippling Sony each time when X amount of games are not bought. Microsoft takes less of a blow because they don't force hd-dvd on each of their customers, thus keeping the cost lower, though also still losing money on each 360 sold, they make up for it with all the many game sales they have going on.

Wanting it and being able to afford it/willing to pay the price are two different things, who doesn't want the latest technology? Of course more people are switching but not everyone.

The lower console? You can't take one aspect and use it to generalise the whole console you know.

i bet half of you didnt even know the xbox didnt have an HD-DVD player when you brought it.

Just as I could say half of you didn't even know Sony removed rumble from the sixaxis controller. Resorting to insults doesn't help your argument

As mentioned before, the Wii is selling like hotcakes over here. The 360 is doing very well too, in the first four days, it beat sales records.

Lower console?

It's cheaper, you act as if thats a bad thing. Sooner, well, some people might have been impatient, but it isn't inferior simply because it came out first and is cheaper.

The investment didn't cost a lot of money, and has a lot of good games.

I would say it sounds about right.

BUT THE PS3 IS ALSO GOOD AND I LOVE IT TOO

just to clear my name....

And then to further underline that point, we have this.

The Wii is hugely popular in Australia. At the moment, you can't buy a Wii console for at least a week and Wiimotes have been sold out, even on pre-orders, for over two months now. The PS3 preorders at the store I work at amount to nil. We had 65 Wii preorders and 32 360's. Just shows the market can't afford the amount asked.

Keep in mind that the difference in price between the 360 and PS3 is alot bigger in Australia with the 360 Premium going for $600 and the PS3 60GB going for $999. Factor in that the cost of living has risen in Australia and you have less people willing to fork out a grand for a console. So no wonder the Wii is doing so well, for 300 bucks the Wii fits into a affordable level popular with parents and their bratty "I want" young children. Not saying the PS3 won't still sell here but so many of the once faithful Playstation lovers will end up turning their back on Sony simply because of the price.

Many of you still think that only "faithful" and "loyal" "playstation owners" will buy a ps3. It is very hard to tell if this is true, since there is no way to prove it.

How can any console be considered 'the lower console'? Every console has it's own features and special games that only come with the system. Just because one may have better graphics or more features than the other doesn't make it any lower of a console of any of the consoles within it's generation.

i bet half of you didnt even know the xbox didnt have an HD-DVD player when you brought it.
I was pretty aware it didn't come with a HD-DVD player. Some of us really could care less for such a player. These are gaming consoles remember...

According to research done, Sony has the most loyal fans and most of them won't be upgrading to the PS3 right away because the PS2 still has life left in it. The article was posted at IGN.

I'm pretty sure sainraja is talking about THIS article. The question is, who really cares which console has the most loyal fans?

I understand how much this means to every company, but I just think Sony put a little too much into the PS3. This just proves, the best specs don't always win. Although, this doesn't mean the PS3 was a mistake...

Is that $999 in Australian currency or did you convert?

Yeah its in Aussie dollars, its what seems to be the release price as stated by many of the places doing pre-orders. If I convert the $600 US price to Australian dollars its $774 so like everything in Australia there is a huge mark-up. I think the 20GB PS3 is $899 which is the same hundred dollar difference.
