GTA SA Freeze / Crash - HELP

Recommended Posts

i play about 1, 5, 10, 15 max 20 minutes and freeze (stops the image and the game sound continues)

sometimes i can open task manager and end the process and sometimes i can't and the only solution is reset.

i havent any problems with sound or textures. the game runs fine until it freezes.

drivers update (graphics and sound), patch 1.01, eax.dll, basic or standar aceleration, crash fix ...

i think i tried almost everything suggested in this forum

i tried the lowerest possible graphic options and nothing

640x480x16

Quality low

Frame Limiter ON

AA OFF

AF OFF

MM OFF

Draw Distance Minimum

the game runs well, no lag no sound problems no texture problems

but freezes ... i can't play no more about 30 min

i just want to know what you guys did to fix your freezes.

(there's a few topics with users complaining about the same/EXACT problem i have... date 2005/2006 but in all of them there's no user saying how they fixed it)

why nobody answer me or help me ?

i formatted my disk and nothing

i have more than 40GB free space, a few programs installed and when i play i have always 300 350 mb of memory free ...

editing stream.ini

changing agp in bios

changing eax.dll

i have the latest drivers in everything and i also tried with older drivers

nothing works for me ...

sometimes it crashes to desktop ou just freezes (sound continue)

There isnt much more to do ... i will try unninstall alcohol 120 (for some guy it worked ... my game is not "connected" with alcohol but i have nothing to lose) and maybe i'll try downgrade my directx 9.0c ...

patch 1.01

Never patch unless you're experiencing a problem the patch addresses. Just blindly patching will never help, and might well be a problem in the future.

Also, from a forum etiquette point of view, use the [EDIT] button in future, rather than double (or in this case, quadruple) posting. It's found to the upper right of your posts. You shouldn't expect an answer immediately, and sometimes at all.

I'd try freeing up some RAM. I know you exceed the recommended requirements, but a lot will be eaten up by other running processes (e.g. antivirus), and I wasn't able to run SA fluidly until I upgraded from 512 MB to 2 GB RAM - although that would certainly be overkill just for the sake of running SA.

Also, your video card is only 64 MB, which is the minimum requirement. If possible, you should invest in a new one, but I understand this can be pricey.

I'm sorry I don't have a more likely/reasonable solution.

sorry for the sucessive posts.

and tks for answering.

i experienced the same problems without the patch.

btw 1hour ago i tried one of the last things possible for me: downgrading directx to 9.0b (the other is activate WMI Perfomance Adapter)

but in both cases several users said it didn't worked for them.

but some guy also said directx 9.0c and SP2 aren't a great "team" tounge.gif

anyway in my case i noticed a great improvement in performance and quality that made me possible to raise display settings (i played with medium quality and draw distance 8/16)

i got better results comparing with directx 9.0c / display settings all minimum

about one hour of play and no crashes.

i'll come back later to tell if i'm free of crashes (and for now i suggest GeForce4 MX440 users to downgrade directx from 9.0c to 9.0b)
