88survivor
Now, we all know that both GTA3, VC, and SA have edited the full 4:00 minute timing of the songs itself to either 2, 3, or over 3 minutes. Heck, I know that most of the Scarface songs are edited, too, on GTA3. But, was it me or did the songs seem shorter this time? I am possibly listening to V Rock and they get the best parts of the songs itself....with the exception of Scorpions' Rock You Like A Hurrican and Judas Priest's Electric Eye. But did seem to clock around 2:30-2:50 minutes at least? I know V Rock also had some edited songs, but it seem so different listening to the VCS radio station a bit. Possibly, I have been listening to SA And VC too long.
saintdave
The songs probably are edited to be shorter in length but there is a very good reason. Rockstar wasn’t able to fit in the amount of songs they really wanted to in LCS, they claimed during production of VCS that the radio would have over 100 songs. To fit these in on a small UMD along with the size of the city and other key aspects of the game must have forced them to edit the length of songs so they could fit more on. There was about 200 mb left for them. Anyway i like the way it is. It's like you're lisening to absolutely new tracks.
topdogkiller
yeah they edited stranglehold to like 3 mins when it's actually around 8 mins, seen as an example. they have to shrten song sthe umd can hold it in which saintdave had already said. Carlito_Brigante
The main reason is 'cause of size problems, but it also gives you a real radio experience. Radio stations rarely let the whole song play.
Durka Durka Mahn
I think it was Flash FM, but mine cuts off in the middle of the song and restarts the entire thing.
88survivor
I know that. I just never heard songs on a UMD before. In fact, I don't own a PSP. I have Scarface: The World Is Yours which has songs that can let hear the whole in its entirety. It is kind of cool, though. Also, Indigo Child had some songs I haven't heard at all. Nina Simone's "No Good Man" or Society's Band(early 70s one hit wonder funk band) "Let It Crawl". I tried amazon.com and couldn't find those songs. That's amazing as to how some people could these songs out of the blue. Edited January 20, 2007 by 88survivor
Forelli_Boy
A lot of the songs on VCFL and pretty much all of them on Paradise suffer from excessive cuts. For example "Nightshift" by the Commodores completely omits the verses about Jackie Wilson, who actually died several months BEFORE Marvin Gaye, in 1984. gamerzworld
When I play some of the radio stations on my computer (Converted from the UMD.), I can hear where they shortened the songs and ads. I think it was Flash FM, but mine cuts off in the middle of the song and restarts the entire thing. That's just the bad programing of the in-car radio. Flash FM plays just fine on the computer. 88survivor
That Jackie Wilson tribute is the best part of the song itself, knowing that Jackie Wilson was an inspiration to Michael Jackson and the late great Godfather of Soul, James Brown. RIP James, your music leaves on... Anyway...how did you converted a UMD on the computer? That's kind of neat.

williamcampbell
The main reason is 'cause of size problems, but it also gives you a real radio experience. Radio stations rarely let the whole song play. Yup, a good example is "Light my fire" by The Doors...The song is 7 minutes long, but You'll never hear the full song in a radio! The radio edit is like 3 or 4 minutes, because they cut the solo..
Justin
Radio stations rarely let the whole song play. This is true. Most songs on radio are 'radio edits' which are far shorter than the original tracks.
Vito Leone
People, lets not forget we're on a portable video game system here. It has way less memory. You can tell how much memory it takes by the texture loading. No matter. The point is, the songs are edited to fit into the psp "hard drive". If you longed up the songs, the game would be even more laggy with more loading pages.

If you longed up the songs, the game would be even more laggy with more loading pages. That is a load of rubbish. The radio stations are encoded as 96kbps ATRAC, Space isn't an issue, there is a 400MB dummy file on the UMD plus 200MB spare. The reasons the radio cuts in and out at times is because of the UMD read speeds, when travelling fast, it can't keep up with streaming the enviroment and keep the audio bitrate of the stations stable. If you play the game from ISO on Memory Stick, you won't encounter these issues as the Memory Stick has a much faster read speed compared to the UMD drive. The reason songs are short, to keep the stations flow going, In real life, as people have mentioned, you never get the full version of songs, you get cut down versions and the DJs still talk over the start and end. It's just to keep it real and give the effect of hyperactive 80s DJs. Some songs however are played for a long time, It's My Life has the extended intro, Too Shy has the Midnight Instrumental Mix which runs for 3:28, just for a song without words. Most songs on VCFL are played in full. So some songs are in full whilst others are cut down to suit the stations format. VCS isn't the first to do this, in San Andreas many songs on SF-UR and Radio Los Santos ended the songs early, some even cutting out final verses. T-Cipp
They did edit them... if you download the songs they are much longer. They did have a good reason to edit them cause, in the most songs had long intros and outros. Another reason I think is cause some of the songs are remixes and they are already edited. 88survivor
In Wave 103, I actually prefer the original Kajagoogoo song, "Too Shy", instead of the Midinight Mix instrumental version, but that's just me... I preferred the one where I hear Limahl sing. But thanks for the heads up, gang. Edited January 27, 2007 by 88survivor

VCS isn't the first to do this, in San Andreas many songs on SF-UR and Radio Los Santos ended the songs early, some even cutting out final verses. That probably was what I was trying to say, but didn't know how to say. Basically, the game starts to load the music, and practically forgets about the textures. The psp starts loading the radio, and since your driving at a high speed, the psp cant keep up with the textures. Not quite rubbish, Ash. Memory as I meant was actually how the psp reacts to the game's enviroment, and how heavy that game is on the psp's drive.
