From my perspective... YES! From what I've seen this game looks pretty kick ass, will try to dig up some links. It looks alot more real and aimed at proper skaters.

I've been a fan of Tony Hawks since number 2 but the last two versions have really pained me. In project 8 I couldn't even turn off auto kick so that just straight out ruined the game for me. The spots were also crap, THPS2 was the best ever with killer levels like marsaille, venice, philly etc etc. Number 3 was pretty cool as well what with the revert and stuff. The thing that appealed to me in the games was the ability to turn off auto kick so I wasn't going a jillion miles an hour and bust mad runs that I'd never be able to do in real life in places that no longer even exist or that i'll likley never visit. It was fun to do when to stoned to skate for real or the weather was being particularly Scottish! All this business of mad combos never appealed to me, ollieng over skyscrapers and sh*t, the series really started to lose me on number 4, some of the underground games where all right and at least you could create your own park. I really missed the massive create-a-park editor in 'project 8'.

Anyway rant about the decline of TH sereies over onto Skate!

From what I've said Skate prob won't do as well as Bony Hawks because obviously lots of folks to like ollieing over skyscrapers doing manuals for ten miles flipping in and out evry two seconds. This game has got some great names behind it Jerry Hsu, Rob Drydek, Chris Cole, Jason Dill and more sure they ain't 'household' names like Tony Hawk or Bam Margera, but they're very very talented guys.

I can't wait for this game.

Slightly all over the place post their but meh..

who else has heard of this game? Anyone got some good info about it?

Edit: Here's a link with some decent info (kind of) doesn't say much though but more coherent and more about the actual game than my post blush.gifthe link

I thought there was no auto kick in project 8. You have to press 'up' to push.

Either way, I love project 8 (on 360), and Skate looks awesome. This generation of skateboarding games is looking to be good.

I really am looking forward to it, especially the fact that Chris Cole is in it. I'm really suprised that the whole of the Plan B team is in it pretty much, even P-Rod, I wonder if since Ryan Sheckler's transfer to Plan B they will feature him in it too.

THPS2 > *, end.

Also, THP8 kicks ass. It kicks ass very well, and don't doubt that.. I've not finished it 100% yet, but I have 80%~ finished on Sick, and some of it is f*cking hard. It's a great game, aside from frame rate issues and the bail related challenges. Very fluid; quite fun; more like THPS' days gone by.. It is a little cheesy though, unfortunately. Of course it's unrealistic, but that's what is so enjoyable about it most of the time, and it's still fun.

Thrasher, a much more realistic game (at least in terms of what you could and couldn't do), was also fun however.. Of course people who skate or have skated are going to appreciate the effort required to land any trick in real life, and that being reflected in-game was what made it great.

KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS GAME IS FROM THE OH-SO-LOVELY EA. EA are c*nts, they really are.. They make for the masses, not for quality - They're trying to muscle in and take THPS' fan-base, rather than provide an alternative. If the game itself is anywhere near as nice looking as what we've seen so far, then it could well turn out to be a great game.. Sure, it'll be fun even if it's not all-round polished off, but I fear it'll be cheesy as hell, and that if we can't change that 3rd person angle I'll have to stab someone in the eye socket.

Also, it's Dyrdek*. wink.gif

While I do feel that realism is the way to go it's sometimes more fun to go with something more unrealistic, a la Tony Hawks. But this game does still quite interesting despite only seeing one video (unless you want to count those pointless EA videos on Gamespot where skaters give their "philosophies"

As long as EA don't overload this game with adverts for Need for Speed and Tiger Woods this game could be a hit but hey, we've only seen a little bit of it so there's no need to get excited (I'm looking at you topic starter who hailed this as a Tony Hawk beater)

Heh, I can't help laughing at the fat guy on that 'quickie' video

Em: Yeah the bail challenges are a bit pointless...but you've got to keep those THUG2 people happy confused.gif

Anybody who skateboards is deffinately more interested in "skate" over THPS, I can assure you. When THPS came out it was really really really good, but in my opinion, thrasher:skate and destroy (by rockstar coincidentally) is still the best skateboarding game out. It's much more realistic in terms of trick difficulty and what not. The controls were catchy, and landing a trick much more rewarding. It's the first game also that i've ever seen that used ragdoll physics inlove.gif . Point being, the tony hawk arcadey style, incredibly fake gameplay is just old to put it bluntly. I'm sick of traveling at 90 mph, and backflipping off a lip on the sidewalk, I wanna scream out AHHHHHH! when I do a 50 50 on a hand rail. That's the way it should be, but i'm sure it probably won't do AS good simply because you'd probably have to be a skateboarder to have the true experience of what the designers were aiming for as compared to THPS, where a football, or baseball player could pick it up and say "hey, this is pretty fun!" The thing is, EA knows what they're doing really. I'm a skateboarder, and I couldn't pick up madden and say "hey, this is pretty fun!". You can call that a flaw in EA's design, or if you were like me, you'd call it staying true to the sport.

You're wrong. How do I know? Well, no offence, but I've been skating a very long time and I know I'm not. Well, that's a lie - I'm more interested in Skate's potential than THPSs, but not the game itself as of yet.

It's EA..

haha, well I guess theres a first for everything. Everyone i've shown pretty much sh*t themselves over it, and it's pretty much unanamous, but whatever. I agree, EA is like the wal mart of the gaming industry, but i'm not going to deny the fact that this game looks jizzelic because they're making it. Ohhhh, and Em, it's me gannonroader wink.gif

I saw some game footage on gametrailers.com. Looks pretty cool. Don't know if it's rendered (looks to be), but if it's not, then I'm excited. As a veteran of skateboarding (going on 16 years. 19 if you count pushing on my knees when I was 3), I'm damn excited.

Yes, EA makes some sh*tty games, when they have no competition in the genre. But they're going up against the one game that annihilated every competitor that's stepped up to the plate (except, in my opinion, Thrasher Skate & Destroy). I still have faith in EA.

Not to be mean to the THPS games, I've enjoyed all of them over the years, but any Skate game can beat Project 8. That game was f*cking horrible.

What console did you play it on? The PS2 version blows, but the new generation versions are pretty cool.

EDIT: Here is a slightly better version than the one above. I love that nollie 360-flip manual to 360-flip out.

Also while we are on the subject of THP8, did anyone notice how there are only two people from the original game in it? (Tony Hawk, and Bob Burnquist)

Yeah I saw the new video just last week or so. It really is shaping up to be a hell of a game.

Def in the standings for beating THPS. or THP8 or 9. w/e

Just looks like some parts (like the bowl) it's not very realistic, and the fs flip down the giant stair case looked a bit unrealistic.

Of course it's on my wishlist tho.

I finally played THPS8 to it's fullest, just gotta wait for a bit and I'll be able to play 2 players.

I spent 47 hours on it completing it 100%. Fun times.

To be honest, I don't understand how skate is gonna be that great, I mean the graphics and realism is obviously insane. But, what kind of objectives are there gonna be

Because in tony hawks there like, do a triple kickflip into fakie 50-50 then backflip while doing a 900.

I must admit, I enjoyed the fact that Neversoft took the approach to Project 8 to make it look and feel a bit more realistic, however, most of it was still just a button-pusher... they just changed the move physics a bit so now it looks like a real-life skater could actually do those crazy moves.

I've read an article (or two) on skate. and it does look promising to take skateboarding out of this Tony Hawk fantasy world where you can do "combos" and get it back to what it was meant originally--doing realistic tricks and moves.

And matt27869: You're not getting it. skate. isn't supposed to be about giving you stupidly unrealistic goals to complete like, "grind that slice of pizza!", or "do a 900 to a backflip!"-- I believe it is more about just getting skating back down to the real world and giving it the realistic wake-up that's been needed for some time in the gaming world.

And while game developers try not to go too realistic with video games, this is one game that could potentially use realism in the right way.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for. The control scheme sounds amazingly fun. In that new trailer, there are so many little things with the physics), that are well known to skateboarders, that are making me cream my jeans.
