jos116
I got some problems wich i dont know how to figure them out. Questions: *Where you get those bumper accent's (those white spots that go on the corner, like in this pic: http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/577/12untitled2jf5.gif *How to get more smoothing groups in 3DS Max? *And how do i get that default reflection mapped? I mean, if you do SA Standart in kams script, you will only get the Specular. I also want that blue-brown image as reflection. All this in 3DS Max 7 . Thanks in advance guys. Picolini
I can only answer the first one, and partially. It's textured by the vehiclegeneric256. It's the part near the bottom where it's black and you can see a white blur that goes in a line and one part hangs down into the black. I know I kinda explained that badly but i can't figure a better way to explain it and can't show a pic atm.
Timpo
there's a tutorial about adding SA style reflections for Zmodeler HERE. but I understand you're using 3dsmax?
jos116
@Picolini: Thanks for that firtst one. About those other two: *How to get more smoothing groups in 3DS Max? Well, in 3DS Max you can use smoothing groups. With those smoothing groups you can seperate different smoothing area's. So it wont get to much smoothed. Like for instance the detailed lichts you dont want to be smoothed with the rest of the car. Check pic: *And how do i get that default reflection mapped? I mean, if you do SA Standart in kams script, you will only get the Specular. I also want that blue-brown image as reflection. With this i mean "xvehicleenv128.bmp". If youuse the Kams Script standart matherials, you will only get specular colours. Like this: Original SA cars will have a reflection from this image: (Gif image by STM's Tut) Ingame you will see this: Marked version: Hope you will understand the rest of my questions. @Timpo: I know that tut, its for Zmod, and like i said i'm using 3DS Max 7. flashg
You cannot use that reflection map with newest scripts of Kam It doesn't reflect properly when after you export to dff even thou it shows right in Max [edit] Not sure about that actually, so if someone could confirm that or say if it's possible?[/edit] As for the smoothing groups, they are quite simple. Just select the polies that need to have sharp edges and select group for them. I usually manage to use only 4 different groups. I'm sure you'll get hang of it once you try them. jos116
Well about that reflection: You can use it, i know it for sure. You have to map it, but how... About those smoothing groups. I know how to use them, but the prob is i need more of them . Regards

Could you show some pics how you assign your smoothing groups? About that reflection... Yes you can use that refmap, but with newest version of Kams script you cannot use 2nd UVW map which is bollocks. I haven't managed to make SA style reflections with it anymore. Picolini
I would suggest just setting the car up in Zmod2. It's easy as pie... and you don't need to worry about stupid crap like Kam's script not supporting stuff. And setting normals is easier, imo. Although sometimes they don't come out as good, over all it's easier.
DexX
@ smooth group issue - yes, definitely show us a screenshot of how you're assigning smooth groups. the most i've ever used was 8, and that was a special occasion. kam's script may no longer export uv2 data correctly, but i don't consider that an issue for vehicles. personally, i think anyone using the uv2 refmap system ought to be shot out of a cannon, face first, into a brick wall. either use the tiled reflections (with the fix i provided to eliminate the tiling) or build detail with specular lighting. jos116
@Flashg and DexX: Well, becus making a screenshot is way to hard, im sending you two my .Max file. Beware it is made in 3DS Max 7, so you probally wont be able to open it up in 8 or 9, just try. @Picolini: Well, the prob is, i always worked in 3DS Max, also i dont know anything about Zmod. I cant even create a box in there... Thanks for helping me so far. Regards
