[WIP|SCR] GTA: Back to the Future

Hello all,

 

Me, K.I.T.T., Carlos EGL, and Keeper over at bttf.com decided to start a new bttf conversion mod for GTAVC that adds hill valley, time travel, and deloreans. So far, I have the time travel script done, and am just troubleshooting the bugs and adding some new features if they come to my head. The script is built upon the stripped script from the vice city mission builder.

(manual's the simplest to install, but it's a huge download compared to the regular one.)

 

Features so far include:

-Speedometer

-New Font

-BTTF1, BTTF2, BTTF2 Flying, BTTF3, BTTF3 Railroad, Train, and Flying Train models

-Modified Deloreans to allow carcol on flux coils (so that they can turn blue) *will be replaced by new glows in 0.2d (NOT RELEASED!!)

-Modified BTTF3 delorean with slightly bigger tires and a higher ride

-Modified particles

-Effects close to the movie as possible (wormhole, sparks, plasma trails)

-Only travel through time, not space

-Plutonium required

-Spawning (for testing only) *removed in 0.2c*

-Custom sound effects (time circuits, "explosions", plutonium, sparks)

-Time travel gets rid of wanted levels

-Griff's BMW, Biff's Ford, and Doc's Packard are among the cars that are in the mod so far

-Hypothetical 2004 Delorean ingame.

 

New features for 0.2d

-New Time Circuit colors

-New glow effects (wheels, green underside lights, vents, coils, wormhole)

-BTTF3 Delorean has it's own red colored wormhole

-Deloreans come back "cold"

-BTTF1 Delorean comes back dead. 30 seconds needed for the engine to warm up and restart.

-Completely revamped hovering system for the delorean(flys like a helicopter, except one extra button makes the delorean go forward)

-Bonus 2004 Delorean Time Machine

-Random Time Travel Camera Angles

-New Flux Capacitor Model for Deloreans

-LED display on driver side of Delorean lights up now

-30 second delay between time travel added

 

 

I already have silver007's permission to release his deloreans, as well as Carlos E.G.L.'s permission to use his train, especially since he just modeled the interior.

 

As of now, the clocktower is being made, as well as the models for Marty and Doc, but other than that, nothing else has been made besides the deloreans and train.

 

We are currently looking for more modelers and texturers, as this will take a while to remake hill valley. The plan is to have 5 instances of Hill Valley (1885, 1955, 1985, 1985A, 2015) on one map, and have boundaries seperating them, and the delorean will transport to the corresponding place. We also need modelers to make the cars and peds for the different times, such as 2015. Any help would be appreciated.

OMG, I always wanted to use the BTTF3 train in VC! this will be an amazing mod.

I can't wait 'till this is ready. Im a regular at BTTF.com and someone said a few months ago they were making this but I thought the project was abandoned wow.gif

I already uploaded the mod, but it's still waiting approval from moddb. I already have silver007's permission to use his deloreans with some carcol modifications and update to the model (removing the hoverboard from the passenger seat). The train was made/modifed by Carlos E.G.L. for this mod, so i have his permission.

 

We still need modelers to help model hill valley to help with this mod, as i can't model and one of our modelers has barely any access to the internet.

 

EDIT:

Well, it was going nowhere until i found it in december and decided to make some new time travel scripts that are distinctly different than the one in vcxxl, not to say that the mod is bad, but the time travel's not really screen accurate.

we were going to, until the guy who made the model and skin had a hard drive crash. No clue as to when it will be back up, but if you remember dbxme2, the guy who was making that scratch bttf delorean, he has a half finished marty model which might be used if this skin really is lost.

 

As for pictures of that skin, it's still a wip

quick question

Do you guys prefer having to time travel take a long time (ie: marty going back to 1985) or take a short time (flying delorean sequence at the end of bttf1)?

Edit: One more

should the max speed be around 88 mph or should it be higher like around 105mph (means easier to get to 88mph)

 

1. time travel should take a long time to build up the suspense, but short is good for me too.

 

2. It should take longer for the DeLorean to get to 88mph like in the movies. Gtavc’s cars reach 88mph surprisingly fast.

 

 

yep, it takes a while. Again, it's all about speed, so question 1 is more like question 2.

 

To answer question 2, the handling had to fiddled around with, as well as the speedometer. I found that having less gears makes the delorean accelerate more slowly. Also, adjusting the speedometer helped so that the delorean wasn't a slowpoke compared to the rest of the cars. Max speed for teh delorean is around 95mph, but it's enough to get around law enforcement. The delorean needs about all of starfish island to time travel, a little bit less.

 

The flying delorean is a bit tricky. It accelerates fine, but if you put it into a dive pressing forward, chances are that you'll break 88 mph in less than a second, but it's fine if you're level or ascending.

 

The train accelerates as slow as hell, but still reaches 88 mph. The flying train is much faster, but again, flying physics makes it that way.

Oh yeah, it won't. I don't know why his did that, but the script is brand new from scratch, so that little hitch isn't there. Fire trails are yellower as well. Here's a video if you're wondering how it looks like.

I might also add that the reentry booms have a shorter pause in between them, like around 3/4 of a second.

This may or may not be helpfull but I found a Back to the Future downtown area that was modeled in scetchup here.

 

It's just a mater of editing it some more etc, and importing it on ZModeler, resizing, textureing and giving it a COL file.

 

of course the scetchup textures are pointless but you can always get creative wink.gif

Plutonium will work by just going to the back to refill it after each trip. If you run out, there are 6 places you can go to get it, which will be shown on the map.

the only problem I noticed (not including the color on the coils) was that the BTTF3 DeLorean is as fast as the saber turbo. Also It could use some custom sounds too, same goes for the trains and the flying Bttf2 Delorean.

 

The script work you guys did is amazing though, the flying system is vary well done indeed.

well, we had a little issue with the bttf3 delorean time travelling in sand, so thats why it's a bit faster. Might change back to the other handling later, but for now, it'll be slightly faster.

 

Does anyone think that the bttf1 and 2 deloreans need to be a smidge faster?

Huge BTTF fan, I'm stoked to see another VC BTTF mod in the works!

 

I tested it out, and great job on the train model, I must say. I look forward to actual map modifications of Hill Valley in past, sorta present(1985/1986) and the future!

 

Also, awesome job on the engine sounds. I honestly didn't install them, but I really want to.

In my opinion the top speed could be whatever you wish but the acceleration should be a bit lower, so you couldn't just travel in time with ease. You would need something as long as a highway to accelerate.. Did you use the "text_draw" opcode (033E) to show the mp/h?

I used

 

04F7: status_text $40E 0 line 3 "SPEED" ;; MPH:

 

where $40E is the integer speed of the car.

and if anyone's wondering, I'm using 1.835 as the multiplication factor for speed.

 

 

As for the engine sounds, they're not mine. It is Daniel Low's soundwork found on youtube. Just search GTA BTTF, and one of the videos is a delorean sound update, which is what I used.

Well, I don't think the vehicles need to be any faster. The speed is fine.

 

also how are you going to make the 1885 desert? Are you going to use newly created objects or custom made ones? I was thinking some of San Andreas’s desert objects would work well. The only problem is converting them, whenever I try converting them they have a mass of polygons coming off of them.

 

wink.gif I downloaded the mod, Its really cool. But i still want Martin Skin and model. I hope anyone is working on it. I dont know nothing about mission scripting but you guys can make some missions relating to time travel in game and make other characters models like Doc e.t.c and put come soundtracks of movie. That can make it hell of a Mod.

we actually have a radio station already, low quality though. It's called rewind and is a radio station for 2015, with that monotone robotic female voice as the dj and oldies music playing, like power of love or kids of america, and some ads from the movie.

 

EDIT:

 

Is there anyway to change the default camera view for the rcbaron? If i leave it to default, the camera pans back way too far and high compared to the other vehicles. I am currently getting around it by using code, but there's a very noticable lag, when the camera falls behind, especially when using fraps.
