VC crashes when I try to add more objects

I don't know what's going on here. I may have reached a limit of some sort.

 

I'm adding my own custom land mass to Vice City, and before I could make any progress today, I noticed that adding any new .ide's will crash the game. I can add more .ipl's(with existing/defined objects) but no more .ide's.

Did you add the appropriate lines in gta_vc.dat?

 

Did you add this stuff with MapEditor, or manually?

 

Have you tried with just "1" object to try to narrow down where the problem might be?

 

Just a hint: I responded because I've noticed a couple of your mods, and I thought they were good. Had I not known you at all, I never would have responded to this topic, with an attitude like that. Perhaps you should remember that while a great deal of the modding community here is usually willing to help, they're not at your beck-and-call. Just a friendly heads-up. wink.gif

manually, and then added it to my gta_vc.dat.

 

It's been working fine since I started this(last spring), and now I'm having this problem.

 

I tried rebuilding the archive, didn't help.

Well, I've already had one topic in this forum totally ignored. I just want to fix this problem, because I have so much excitement and enthusiasm for this project(which includes the Soundwave Transformer, the topic I see you're reading right now tounge.gif) and I want to work on it.

No, tried 3 objects. The hands model for Soundwave, some new Palm Trees, and an older model that should work(it's worked before).

 

I might try using other models later though.

As for your previous topic, perhaps no one has run into this problem? Perhaps no one has a real solution for you yet?

Game ran fine when I removed those lines.

 

Game still crashed when I tried to add a new object.

Until I crash...well, I crashed with only one .ipl entry when I tried that..

Bump.

 

 

Why do I get the feeling this is gonna go the route of my last map topic..

 

I tried a lot of stuff. I even tried installing the DeathSquad highway mod. I switched the archive with a backup that had all my custom objects. I edited the highway ide/ipls and replaced that code with the code above. The game ran. So then I figured since the freeway had so many objects, I shouldn't have a problem adding more of mine, and getting pass the limit. Nope! Still crashed.

 

I tried installing this mod into a perfectly clean VC install. It ran, but again crashed when trying to add new objects.

 

I tried using an entirely fresh gta3.img/gta3.dir. I manually re-added all of my objects. Game ran. Crashed trying to add new objects.

 

 

Last thing I tried was removing some of the Soundwave objects, game ran. I figured since a lot of my recent crashes came from Soundwave models, I'd remove them and then test if I could add enough objects to get past the limit I had(when I had Soundwave in VC and couldn't add anything, as explained in my original post).

 

Not really. Because not only did my game STILL CRASH, but I couldn't add any objects again! So my limit actually got smaller, by 4 objects!

Solved the problem weeks ago. I was not rebuilding gta3.img, and so I hit a filesize limit with it. I also was using way too many .txd's and my .ide/.ipl's were not too clean.

 

So now I'm not using a seperate .txd for every .dff, I have like 5 .txd's each seperately for different models. Roads, land, buildings, misc., etc. I also completely re-did my .ide and .ipl, adding new entries one by one. I also re-builded my archive, and now I don't have limit problems.
