It's funny how most of the people who usually fall back on this as a counter-argument usually fit the description strikingly well themselves. I'm not supporting Vanja's argument, nor do I disagree with it, but "I could beat the sh*t out of you in real life" is a very poor direction to take your defense in.

In fact I'm really glad the forum did away with taking words like "fag" all too seriously, intention is more important than delivery, I'm more offended by real homophobes than someone carelessly tossing around slurs.

Oh yeah, that Chris Rock set is by no means bad comedy, it's good comedy and hilarious. But some people have used it as a licence to say ni**er and excuse with "I'm not talking about black people!" when they obviously are. And this isn't just my interpretation, the man has said it himself and not performed the piece since .

 

But yeah, this derail's gone on a bit too long, I guess I could legitimise it by saying people who don't think about historical or contemporary contexts of the word's they are using really piss me off, which they do, but that'd be pretty weak.

 

Anyway, on the current topic: Psychopaths are f*cking scary ass people. I couldn't say that any of the people I interact with regularly fit the criteria, but I'd wager I've met one or two. A lot of people don't understand that the term doesn't just mean a serial killing crazy person, but just people who see the world in a much different, more sinister way than "normal" people. They'll manipulate, fake emotions, lie and cheat to get whatever it is they want and genuinely not feel any remorse about it because of the way they're wired. Now that's f*cking scary.

 

E: I actually agree with Avanja on the politicians thing. There's some Douglas Adams' quote about how anyone who is able to get themselves elected as a world leader is by no means a good person for the job, seems pretty apt.

Perhaps I worded this badly. I did not mean to say I would because chances are I couldn't. I was saying that if he ever said it at school (I assume he goes to school judging at the childish remarks he'd made) he would probably get jumped

There's a huge difference between a gay dude getting beaten up by a group of ignorant inbred assdicks while they shout "fa**ot" at him, and somebody telling a joke about somebody being "faggy", which more often than not isn't referring to their sexual orientation. Both happen (the latter obviously way more unfortunate), but the former is going to offend someone somewhere regardless of context.

It is often the case that middle class white people are the most ignorant. This is not to say I'm not friends with anyone who is middle class and white, almost 100% of them are. But in my experience, the word ni**er is thrown about by them and they don't see a problem with it

I'm not even American. There are no black people in my country. Not a single one. There are no classes either. Instead, my country goes one step further into ignorance. We (well, not me) identify each other by nationality. It's just as f*cked up as it sounds.

Yes, the world is becoming more PC but that's only because in society where you have freedom of speech there must be limits. You can thrash talk all you want but it's just courtesy to others not to go around spitting out offensive words.

ni**er has been somewhat diluted now with the prominence of Hip-Hop music but that word to someone else growing up before you might have lived at a time when ni**er was the most derogatory insult going.

That's extreme but they have a right to protest. It's freedom of speech. Some might think they are abusing it. I personally do as they are pushing it in peoples faces. Basically, people will react differently to offensive words depending on what they've experienced in their lives. If you throw around 'Fag', fine but the next person might have got their head kicked in or know someone who has for being a 'fag.' So you see you don't know what everyones been through so best to keep language like that with people you know.

 

There's extremes either way. Extreme PC is annoying as is taking total liberties like the Westboro Church. Keep it balanced some how is great.

They are genuinely scary and fascinating. I'm not sure if I buy that most politicians are psychos though. From what I've read, Psychopaths are pretty unstable, they have no long term goals and are pathological liars. They may be able to talk their way into a lot of important jobs but they'll let everyone down pretty soon. Being a politician would be too long term a process, but the thought of it being maybe true is troubling.

 

They apparently represent a rather large percentage of the population though, 1-4%, so you probably do know some. You may not realize it until you get on their bad side, but if someone has ever stood out as a cancer in your life or causes a lot of your problems, they could be one. A very definitive book I'm reading on it suggests that a lot of bad experiences we've had in our lives are either directly or indirectly the result of psychopaths.

 

To be honest though, the more I read the worse off I am probably. Once you know they're everywhere you spend a lot of time wondering if certain people are actually deranged.

I'm really getting sick of my city penalizing the citizens for the actions of criminals. It's absolutely ridiculous the lengths at which they're now going to stick us over.

 

First of all, tagging...

 

We've got these little gang bangers that like to go around and write their names in spray paint. Don't confuse this with the artistic graffiti, this is nothing but the equivalent of leaving, "So-and-so was here" written all over the place, and the gangs get into conflicts with each other over them.

 

Well, the city couldn't keep up with painting over all the grafitti, so guess what... If your house gets hit with graffiti, and you don't clean it up, they can fine you $400. That's right, you're the victim of vandalism, and if you don't take care of it, then you're going to be fined $400.

 

Now on top of that, guess what else... Murals painted on people's fences? Suddenly graffiti. This week the city went after a property owner that didn't even care that the mural was on his fence. Meanwhile this particular painting had nothing gang related in it. The city still ordered him to paint over it or face a $400 fine.

 

Moving on, you ever park your car in the drive way with the engine running in the winter? If you do that here it's a $100 fine because there have been too many car thefts.

 

Have a sidewalk outside your house that's cracked and in need of repair? That's your responsibility too.

 

Worse of all? Nuisance ordinances... Let's say your a gang member and your house gets shot up a bunch of times. Well, if it gets shot up three times or more, then they can just throw you out.

 

 

So yeah, come to Yakima if you want to become a criminal by being a victim.
