LinkedIn is full of pretentious wank. When did we ever elect this piece of trash platform as a good metric for networking and professionalism. The level of sanctimonious, self-centered, cringey, virtue-signalling is pathetic.

Oh man, tell me about it. I find the promoted opinions on there are absolute drivel with comments sections full  of clueless shovel faced wankers with meaningless titles like "deputy vice-partner for creative accounting strategies" or "looking for exciting new opportunities in the donkey fellation industry".

The recruiters using the platform are absolute f*cking vultures who seem to possess postgraduate qualifications in stalking but can't read your profile or understand the roles they're representing.

It's bad enough to have to listen to the shameless self promotion in the first place, but we have a couple of people who seem to find plenty of time to post drivel during working hour and yet can't do their day jobs in a timely and efficient manner. IME the relationship between aggressive self promotion on LinkedIn and basic competency at performing a designated role is inversely proportional.

I actually laughed out loud at this one.

Whats also worse is industry people also saying how a LinkedIn profile is a must or otherwise you wont be considered. I have a friend on it and she's connecting with at least 5 people every week. I don't know how relevant these connections are but I suspect their fruitless. She's really playing the LinkedIn game. Doing all those micro-courses and posting her achievements etc. I wonder.. she's educated. She's a great person but I know her personally and the LinkedIn world, her LinkedIn persona is just so plastic and fake. It's like this bubble that everyone enters into and all agrees on this certain LinkedIn etiquette that's just not consistent with reality.

Lately, I've been having more enjoyment networking offline and face-to-face. I'm becoming more and more adverse to online networking.

You might actually be right. 😄

Pushing LinkedIn really hard as a way of networking and self promoting is a very big-four-management-cosultancy style thing which in a lot of other industries makes you look like an absolute tool. I'd be lying if I said to wasn't fairly active on LinkedIn but I seldom post any kind of content and never promote anything really.

In my industry being brash and indiscrete is the fastest way to earn yourself enemies and I genuinely feel a bit sorry for some of my more juionr colleagues who have taken to this approach as it's likely to be harming their standing rather than enhancing it.

I'm in the same boat. It's this game we have to play. But same as you,  I'm not promoting anything much. I'm merely existing in the space in the best presentable way to part of the race. And resharing the odd interesting article that's of course supposed to reflect well on my character. Is me posting the article about the interesting article about the article or is it about me?. 😛

I have an abandoned LinkedIn.  Remember the term "web 2.0"?  I worked for a CIO (that may have enjoyed cocaine) back then , LinkedIn had just launched and we all came in one morning to new LinkedIn accounts created for us.  Surprise!

But wanna know why I'm grumpy?  Probably not but...

This thing.  Noone would ever need this.  I've seen the commercial about 3 times now and every time it makes me angry.  I like a good gadget just as much as the next person, but this just does one thing - cooks sausage!!  Dig this thing out, plug it in, slap in your meat, wait, remove sausage, clean and put back away.  Heat up a f*ckin pan!  Really!

I cannot seem to stop drinking soda this whole year, it seems like every time I kick it, I'm back drinking it.

ten-a-penny

Way to start the f*cking day. One of my little kittens got stuck in my dad's car engine somewhere where you can't reach with your bare hands. And this happened while we were driving (didn't even knew the little one was there until just now). My mom insisted that my dad just drop us to where taxis are and just go back home and fiddle with Demo (kitten's name) until he leaves the car.

Now I'm sick with worry of the little one. How did he even manage to get that close to the engine? And why didn't he just leave when he heard the car running? For how long has he been there (started hearing his cries shortly after we left the house so we weren't really far)? And the car was outside. Was he there the whole time? God. WHAT IS IT with my cats and getting stuck in cars or somewhere in general?! Seriously this is the third time it happened.
