I received a lovely letter from the bozos at the tax office this morning. Apparently I paid too little tax last year to the tune of £300, and they're going to gradually take it off me through-out the year to make up the difference. If these calculators clowns did their job correctly, I'd have paid just the right amount and I wouldn't feel like I'm being robbed blind by a man holding a sack with a £ sign on it.

I think if you get your taxes done by a "professional" at one of those tax places and they screw up your taxes to the point where you have to pay extra then it should fall back on them to pay it as it was their mistake not yours but then again how long would they stay in business if they offered that kind of protection right?

You know how sometimes you go to take a sh*t, and as it makes its final exit, your butthole puckers up and cuts off the tail end of the turd? It gets stuck just inside the breach of the anus, too shallow for the rectal muscles to push it out...so it just sits there. If you try to wipe, you get gooey chunks of actual sh*t on the TP and you end up pushing the goo nugget back inside. Why isn't there a better solution for that yet? I mean, we have automated vehicles now.

In the UK Tax is done on a PAYE (Pay as you earn) basis, so we don't bother with all that Tax return guff like they do in US, it's taken straight off your wages.

I revive myself for a moan...

This is the 4th week where there has been literally nothing to do at work, other than the odd job that might last you 10 minutes (because you've got 5 other people doing it with you, because they have nothing to do either). Getting paid for doing nothing is good, but there's only so much f*ck all you can take until it starts getting really boring. Thankfully, my mangers aren't the 'look busy' type, in fact, they don't particularly care at all, and the other managers don't bother us (other than one or two) because they're from different buildings and have nothing to do with the account I work on, nor the staff that works on the same account (the company has recently sold off two other, smaller buildings and merged into ours after the recent closure of Tesco Direct, who was our main account). I mean, I've had one half shift in these 4 weeks, that was today. I'm on agency work, they have zero obligation to keep me (and the others) there after 4 hours. It's good to have money coming in, but my god it's getting boring. Not to mention that doing nothing seems to be much more tiring than actually doing a shift of work, and we were picking stuff that was mostly 25-70 KG a box, with the odd lighter boxes thrown in every now and then.

Seriously though, it's got to the point that people are just sleeping in the racking, upstairs, under the stairs, or spending a few hours in the staff canteen or outside. We have two managers on my shift, one starts at 8 the other starts at 9, keeping in mind we start at 6 (they'd likely dodge legal issues with that as the mangers for other phases are present in the building). The one at 8 understands why people would sod around doing whatever if there's nothing to do, but has to go through higher management to send people home. The one at 9 doesn't come into the warehouse often, and is being moved to another Phase, she doesn't particularly care what's happening as long as the required work gets done. There was another one, but he seems to have gone AWOL after getting his FLT licence (I can't imagine why /s).

And while I'm here, I may as well throw in another moan. I seriously think the company is on it's last legs, they supposedly haven't been making money for a while, and have been held up by the owner of the agency I work for. After hearing about the closure of one of the other buildings, people started saying they were doing this because the owner of the agency was getting sick of the company not helping itself and had stopped funding them, whether that's true or not is beyond me.

I can't see there being much consistent work in the future. Basically, the company I'm working at, when I started, owned 7 buildings which were called "phases" within the company. Phases 1-6 and Phase 8 (Naturally, there was a Phase 7, but it was sold off or they didn't bother renting it out, IDK, unlike most companies on the estate, this company owns most of it's buildings). Phase 1 doesn't get much agency staff in, and even when it's "busy", it's pretty dead. Phase 2 is small and in primarily staffed by the company and another agency, they've somewhat merged with my Phase. Phase 3, similar to phase 2, but bigger, they have brief busy periods, but usually offer shifts I absolutely don't want to take (BS like 12-8). Phase 4 was very small, and recently merged with the Phase I've been in as they sold the building. Phase 5 is the phase I'm in, when I started it was Mothercare, who later got a contract with DHL and all the company staff were made redundant and replaced with agency workers until new contracts came in. Phase 6 was miles away and has recently started merging with us, apparently there isn't much workload due to the nature of the clients (signs, posters and leaflets for shops). Phase 8 deals with 'non-collates' for Mothercare (because DHL isn't yet set up for them, for whatever reason), also don't ask me what the difference is between collate and non-collate, cause I haven't a f*cking clue.

Even if I'm offered a contract to replace the workers from Phase 6 (most of their workforce understandably left because Phase 6 merged into Phase 5, which is a fair distance away), I'll probably turn it down because I don't see the company lasting long at all. It makes no sense to get hired by a company that you think is failing.

It was (mostly) a good place while it lasted, but if it's going the way I think it is, I'm going to have to go elsewhere.

Hmmm nice bike

I usually don't mind watching a movie on TV if a good one is on, and I know they obviously have commercial breaks. But that never bothered me as much as it does now. "Shooter" with Mark Wahlberg is on the Paramount Network, and I sh*t you not (because I actually timed it), every 5 minutes is a commercial break. And each commercial break has been 6 minutes long. The Paramount Network has made it a f*cking chore just to get through a movie. This has also added an hour to the film's runtime.

I've watched movies on broadcast TV this year (the local channels, not cable) and they never pull this sh*t. Are the cable networks that hard up for cash that they have to do this now? No wonder streaming is killing them.

1. Emulating is insanely difficult on a coding level.

2. The hardware required would be f*cking insane.

3. You would probably get absolute hell from Sony if you even tried.

4. Did I mention how f*cking difficult it is?

Whoever invented those taps where you have to keep it held down should be beaten with wooden spoons. You're telling me we have sophisticated enough technology to have LEDs in our shower heads but we can't agree that taps should stay on for at least long enough to wash both hands at the same time? Granted, it isn't every tap but that just makes it worse. Why even make them that way in the first place? It can't be to save water, because there are enough taps out there that stay on for just long enough. They even look the same. If you're that concerned about wasting water, stop putting ice in your drinks and install an environmentally friendly urinal. I'll take that over impractical taps any day of the week.

Taps.

YouTube... what the actual feck are they playing at?!?

In their infinite wisdom they've decided to push out a new "feature" where it will resize the playback window to the aspect ratio of the video, so you'll get your standard 16:9 videos in the format we're all used to looking at YouTube in a browser, then the next will shrink to 4:3 and the whole page moves and shrinks with it and you get horrible gaps either side of the page... Then the next video will be in stupidly wide 21:9 and will stretch and squash all the text and other videos list against the sides, so you can't see feck all.

Jeez-us fecking Christ on a bike, it looks like an alcoholic three year old has been let loose with their website.  And here's the kicker you can't turn it off and go back to sanity.

Unless you're part of that "Aksuhually" crowd and think that you're getting more video, yadda yadda yadda crap, you're not... I like my black bars either side or the classic letterbox look.

The 16:9 box was the best. If it's a 4:3 or 21:9 video in a 16:9 frame, I don't mind the black bars one bit. It's what it looks like on a TV screen if something isn't a 16:9 aspect ratio. They changed something that didn't need changing or fixing, as usual.

God Bless My DVR even though it's a pain in the ass sometimes when it doesn't record my shows but god I love it.

I don't think I have watched a show Live since getting my first DVR, If there is a show I'm intrested in I will record it then go watch something else and come back in an hour or so and start watching it, even if it isn't over because by time I finish watching it even fast forwarding through the commericals I'll still get through the whole show/movie

The DVR I've got is an older and low-end one, so fast forwarding and rewinding is a pain in the ass in itself, it's way too jumpy. Fast forward over commercials and end up three minutes into the scene when it returns. I still watch shows live sometimes, if it's something I really want to watch and if I'm in my own room (which hasn't got the DVR), and if something major is happening on the news then I'll definitely watch live on TV if I can. Isn't often though, most of the time my TV is just tuned to a local morning news show when I'm getting ready in the morning, and then at night if nothing is going on I might channel surf for a bit.

@DVRs - We pay a fat cable bill here where our DVR box is leased.  We swap out broken boxes a few times a year.  It used to suck ass because our cable company was known for not really being customer friendly.  They have totally changed and it is actually a pleasant experience when we have to run to our closed cable office.

They are so used to swapping out broken boxes that you don't even have to call.

Aside from sports I don't think I watch anything live either.

I could really ramble on the changing of TV, how it is consumed, and how it wasn't part of the package of the future.   Tv wasn't suppose to change and it has... at lightning speed.

I know one thing is for sure, when I move I'm not getting cable. I'm not even gonna bother. Not when all I ever watch live is local news if something interesting is happening and the occasional program I want to see that's airing at a certain time if I'm around. TV is definitely changing, and I'm curious to see how things are going to change in another 10 years time.

We wish we could ditch cable.  The problem is all the telecom companies know how to dick you because of internet access.

If I didn't bundle in cable TV with my internet bill, my internet bill would be crazy expensive.

We crunched the numbers recently at work and it pretty much boils down to the same end bill regardless of how you get your tv entertainment.

I can be grumpy about that.  When I was growing up TV was 100% free.  All you paid for was a tv set(that lasted forever).  I now pay $160+ a month for something that used to be free.... and even though I get thousands more channels...  There still isnt anything good on.  ;)

Hopefully when I move it's to an area that isn't a virtual Comcast monopoly, even though I'm sure other providers would gladly do the same thing. Fingers crossed that they don't try to f*ck me over too much.

Funny how they have a TV license in the UK, and as much as people here can say "Thank god we don't have that here," we pretty much have the same thing now!

It annoys me when I see stuff like this. Why doesn't he just swing on in and scoop the kid up? Surely that would be easier for everybody involved? What if somebody on that bus fell and broke their leg? They could develop an infection due to poor treatment in hospital and might even die because of it, not to mention the cost of repairing the bus and the trauma. I'm assuming this bus is going at a fair speed, so to go from what we can assume is the national speed limit to an instant stop is going to hurt or injure dozens of people. The danger is only heightened if the bus is somehow out of control and going far faster than is expected. It's not even limited to this image either, I see it all the time in superhero media and it pisses me off.

Don't give me that reaction time crap either. This is Spider-Man we're talking about here. His head flashes and a dramatic sound plays when a pigeon takes off, let alone for a traffic accident. Just swoop in! Dead easy. Moron.

Same I am on my 6th Box in two years with Spectrum.

The biggest issue I have is it's recording more episodes then I set, So like I set a show to record the last 7 episodes but it takes it upon itself with some shows to record the last 15 episodes even though it's set for only 7 so that means I am going in often to delete the whole lot to keep room this is on the current box I have it didn't happen on previous boxes tho.

Another Issue I am having is it's not recording my shows instead it just records a black screen and it does this at least several times a week and usually ALWAYS on shows that I'm looking forward to watching not regular reruns which pisses me off and the last issue I have is even though it records the whole show it doesn't let me watch the whole show UNLESS I don't fast forward, pause or anything.

If I attempt to fast forward the show will freeze and the screen will either go completely black or it will skip back about 20 minutes if it does that then I have a chance to finish the show if I don't attempt to fast forward again but even then it doesn't always work as it'll get pass the point where I tried to fast forward and then it'll freeze and go black and nothing will fix it not "Restarting Show" not Rebooting Box, Not waiting a few hours nothing.

That issue is the reason for the last five boxs swaps the first issue is a brand new issue that came with the 6th box
