With my car in the shop, an associate of mine lent me his old car that had been idle for months. After inquiring about the insurance, registration, and reliability, I was told not worry about anything. Just needs to work a for a day right? Twenty minutes later, the car breaks down in the heart of my city's (and possibly my state's) most dangerous Salvadoran neighborhood at night.

 

 

Sitting in a car with my valid but out-of-state-issued driver's license, no insurance, no registration, a jerry-rigged ignition, and greasy khakis at night make me a sitting duck for any intuitive cop. Not to mention the numerous street gangs in the area. So I say "f*ck it" and ditch the car. The longest hour-long walk of my life to say the least.

So let me get this straight...

 

A guy loans you his car to use, it breaks down in the worst part of town, and instead of calling for a tow-truck you just leave it there?

 

And you figure what, it'll be just peachy?

 

It was one of those pick your poison moments I guess. a walk to remember vs. $400 ticket/fine/attorney. With only $80 cash in my wallet at the time, a less-violent mugging would be cheaper.

 

Money is not an issue with this owner. The towing and storage fees meant less to him than a fine meant to me. I'm just too cheap to risk the very probable scenario of having to produce some sort of registration and/or insurance info for the tow truck driver. It would have almost certainly resulted in a hefty ticket/fine/lawyer since a cop has to be present for most towings around here. And given the area (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulfton,_Houston#Crime), I probably would have been suspected of car theft. The car was a banger, and completely disposable to the owner.

I don't like this issue of people thinking you have to leave your parents after a certain age.

I've had people ask me 'oh why do you still live at home, don't you want freedom?'..

 

NO.

Me living in another house will not affect my 'freedom'. People forget that if parents are ill (which my Mom is) it is just easier to stay with them for as long as you need to, I don't want to prance off and live a life whilst leaving my Mom to suffer at home alone and struggle, no. Just no.

It upsets me more than it annoys me, especially when people do that whole 'awhhh you have to help your Mom, I bet that's rough'.

It's not rough, I want to help or I would've left by now don't pity a person who helps out their parent/s. My family (what I have left) means everything. I only have them and I do not intend on moving away from any of them.

I don't need pity or patronising speeches from people who haven't learnt to live in the real world yet. Nothing is worse than being demeaned by a person your age who has never had to deal with the things you have. They ('friends') equate uni with being an 'adult' and it doesn't f*cking work like that.

Ugh.

Can I move out? Yes. Do I want to? No. Simple.

My uncle from my father's side is at least 65 years old (he's older than my father a little), has two daughters (both of which have a job) which means he's married, and yet he lived in his mother's house until she died a few years ago. And my cousin from my mother's side is also married and have a little child/baby, and yet he's living with his mother AKA my aunt. Both sides are over 20. And yet they still live with their mother. Go figure.

Word of advice, anything teaching you how to draw digitally that's worth listening to will tell you that you must be able to draw traditionally before moving to digital - digital is simply a tool for drawing, if you're unable to get the basics down with traditional methods you simply won't be able to draw digitally.

Plus, if I'm going to be honest, you aren't going to get very far just using a mouse. Sure, people have made some kinda nice looking things but all it'll do is give you bad habits for a pretty poor output.

 

You're best off learning to draw on paper, then once you've got that down and have the money get a tablet for digital.

The problem isn't in learning how to draw with my hands/traditionally. In fact I actually want to learn how to draw that way. Its the part where I need to transfer the image drawn to the laptop - that's what pisses me off, since for some stupid reason my craptop doesn't have Bluetooth (nothing appears on my phone when I search for my laptop via Bluetooth, same applies on my laptop), which means I have to do the following:

 

1. Draw whatever I want to draw (which itself will take me half an hour unless its a small, simple thing like a pair of wings)
2. Take a picture of the sketch/image (every "PC add-on" is helluva expensive, scanners aren't an exception, so that means I must use my phone)
3. crack my phone open after shutting it down
4. pluck the Memory Card off, then shove it in my laptop's SD Card
5. Wait a f*cking century because this stupid sh*t is way too slow at detecting USB sh*te
6. FINALLY transfer the sketch to my laptop and open it with Photoshop
7. Return everything phone-related to its place

This entire scheme will take me half an hour to do.

Doesn't work for some reason. I dunno why, but it takes my stupid phone forever to do such thing. Tried once before.

 

 

 

Update on the nonexistent/useless Bluetooth on my laptop. The thing does show up when I try to Connect via my phone, but it gives me an error (Unable to communicate with <ahem>). Tried everything, nah.

Alternatively, you can make a Dropbox account and transfer it that way. Get the app on your phone and then log in, then you can dump your photos in like that.

Lost the stupid phone USB cable but the charger works wonders. Thank goodness the "battery" consists of a more-or-less phone USB cable that connects into the actual charger. You just saved me a headache!

Being honest, it bothers the f*ck out of me even though I know it shouldn't. It bothers me even more that I feel so worked up over worthless internet points when I know I shouldn't be.

 

i guess what irks me the most is that I have a feeling they're trying to get at me for something I said a long time ago, and I have no clue what I said to offend them, or who they even are.

 

It feels like I'm stuck in a dark room with a silent mosquito that keeps biting me all over the place.

I repaired my Nexus 7's screen this weekend, what a f*cking pain in the ass. The hardest part is separating the broken screen from the frame, which you need to constantly heat up due to it being stuck on with adhesive. After that you need a blade or something to take the glass out. I cut myself on multiple fingers trying to do that. Why don't they manufacture things so that it's easier to repair?

 

In the end, I got it fixed.. typing from it now.

Same reason they don't "cure cancer": It's more profitable for you to just replace the phone, as well as the phone is even cheaper to make if it isn't made with replaceable components as its more profitable to "treat" cancer than to actually look for, or release to the public, a cure.

It started with the "self-awareness" pages on Tumblr. After being bored with the self-awareness deal, a few of them broke off and started a "Culture Appropriation" group. This caught on fire like an old wooden barn. The concept of "Culture Appropriation" is to NOT do things such as clothing types or styles, hairstyles, etc. from other cultures. For example, the recent video of a black woman getting upset about a white person "stealing from her heritage/culture" because he has dreads. Sure, we traditionally think of the African continent when we think dreads; but the problem is it has also been proven that the early northern European civilizations also had forms of dreadlock styles. This was because they couldn't/didn't wash their hair very often. But I'm sure you get my point. These "Culture Appropriation" groups are growing larger and larger every single day. And it isn't just one or two races, to be clear. There are Asian, White, Black, & Latin CA pages all over Tumblr.
