I just watched an interview with Bryan Fuller who is going to be heading the new CBS Star Trek TV show... in the interview he admits to not having been into either Star Trek or Star Wars before. Makes me pretty f*cking grumpy, because they keep giving control of my show to people who don't love it, when there are plenty of other fans in the industry who would be 100% better qualified.

 

EDIT: I mean, look at these new movies by JJ Abrams. They are basically Star Wars Fanfic with a Trek skin applied. I always say they are awesome new exciting sci-fi flicks and I enjoy them for that, plus I'm more than happy to see more energy and new fans invested in the franchise, but it's not truly Trek. JJ did wonders for Star Wars, and he was a fan. I was hoping for something similar with this.

 

Well Fuller was in charge of the Hannibal tv show and he turned it into a masterpiece. So I'd say Star Trek is in good hands.

He doesn't need to be a fan of a series. He just needs to be a fan of getting paid.

 

If he doesn't do a good job, nerds fans won't watch.

You said he isn't a fan of Star Trek, you sure that's true? Because Fuller wrote his first ever episodes for Deep Space Nine and then some for Voyager.

Star Trek brings up a lot of bad memories for me, My dad's mother used to make me sit there and watch Star Trek for hours on end it was a form of torture.

Comcast is having a semi nation wide outage right now. Out of the 1000s of channels we only have access to like 10 channels.

 

It's a holiday day off to boot.

 

Thank goodness I still have internet. Some people are reporting no internet access.

 

Forgot to mention that when you call it goes straight to busy and the 'contact us' section of their website just spins.

 

Watching the twitter feed is kind of funny.

Seeing how this is the grumpy old forumers topic and I happen to have been here 8+ years; Back in the old days of GTAF replying with one word or a picture used to be a warnable offense. I have one in my warning log.

 

The one way I like to look at it is we should be able to articulate on or own...in our own speak. It keeps us more human. It allows for discussion.

Not all interstates have to travel through multiple states. Interstate highways are controlled-access highways designed for high speed travel. Honolulu is Hawaii's largest city and Oahu is the most populated island. So an interstate makes sense to get from one side of the island to the other. State highways, while they can be major freeways, are a little less desirable. I mean You don't even see interstates with stoplights but you do with state highways.

Money becomes a byproduct when you contribute to the society. If you aspire to earn while at it, that's even better.

 

That's impractical talk when you have monotonous work life that creates no real visible contribution but then you're like the sewage cleaner, you're needed too.

For the same reason there are Interstate highways in Alaska.

 

They don't need to go in between states to be called "Interstate highways", they just need to be part of the national highway system. Legal sh*t basically. The laws that make them federal, the funding, etc., etc., ad nauseum. They're just named that because in most cases they do. Or rather, because when the system was started, neither Alaska nor Hawaii were states yet, so at the time the US was what is now referred to as the Contiguous United States.
