The South Coast of England is far too hot for me...I can barely cope with an outside temperature of 19°C  Hence why the damp mists of the Scottish Highlands appeal so much to me - beautiful countryside, wonderful views, lower chance of hot weather, more snow, and you're bl00dy miles from anywhere. I doubt the internet connection is much good, that's the only downside. Oh, and in some places a 20+ mile journey to get milk and bread.

There's one Caravan Club site in Sutherland in the Far North of the Highlands which I've fallen in love with that is right on the shores of a loch in the middle of nowhere, where the passing traffic is about 3 cars a day and the sheep outnumber people by a considerable margin. It's one of the most remote sites in the UK, as even the closest settlement of about 4 houses, a hotel and a weather station is about 20.8 miles from the closest shop of any size. And that settlement (Altnaharra) is about 4 miles away, down a long winding narrow road. The site is even right next to an ancient (but collapsed) fortified structure and an old village which was destroyed in the 1700's.

Wonderful location. I've veered off topic a bit now though

Your flag says you're from Australia, so unless you're lying, aren't you in the middle of winter? 8C at winter in northern Europe would be a luxury.

Well, personally speaking, we are in the Last Month of Winter. :)

Sounds pretty decent to me. As far as I'm concerned, horrible weather is hot, sunny Summer days. Something which the English South-East has plenty of. It's easier to keep a comfortable temperature when it's cold than when it's hot.

Remember a couple years ago when it was so cold? I had -22c here on the southwestern coast of Norway, it must have been even colder in Sweden.

I do, but I don't think we had any colder than that and only for a very short time. The feeling of the snot in your nose freezing solid is a special one.

If you guys really loathe cold weather, come to Tripoli in Libya. I think you'll like the hot weather here.

Neither of us have said anything about loathing the cold weather.

I'm not a fan of either extreme end of the temperature scale but I think I'm better at coping when it's cold. It's easy to put more clothes on but there only so much you can take off when it's too hot.

Seriously though, if you hate the cold weather or at least dislike it, then Libya will make you fall in love with cold temperature.

LIBYA. Y. R. U. SO. HOT?!?!?!? Sometimes its well over 41c here. F*ck.

I have to say, I quite enjoy the extreme cold. The air feels very dry and it's an excuse to wear my cool red coat. Plus, as Black_MiD so perfectly put it, there's nothing like stepping inside for a cup of coffee at a café during the winter.

It probably makes me sound like a bitch saying this but, over affectionate guys make me uncomfortable. I feel suffocated and I don't always like to be touched, it's a huge turn off.

Don't worry, that makes perfect sense. We all need space, and if someone is over-affectionate it intrudes on ones personal "space". After all, it's possible to be too caring. I reckon that there is a fine line between over affectionate and invasive. Probably just my (considerable) introversion coming in, though.

I get what you mean, but this year's winter in the UK was severely depressing. The heating where I was living most of the year was just sh*te and a long morning commute in the cold, grey and damp was really depressing. Spring was very welcome this year (and more consistently nice than summer has been).

As far as I know, Benghazi don;t have ISIS - just drunken idiots killing each other. Sirte yes they do, unless they got defeated. Tripoli has 0 problems though,

The UK is fairly mild during winter due to the Gulf Stream which passes close to the British & Irish Isles. This means the UK is much warmer in winter than places at the same latitude. The coldest temperature ever recorded was −27.2 °C in Scotland, but typically it varies across the UK from Scotland (coldest) to South/South-West England (warmest). The national average winter temperature across the UK is 3.3°C, but it can go into the minuses in Scotland and up to around maybe 10°C further south.

Summer is a different matter. It can get up to 35°C here in Southern England, at which point I am little more than a sad puddle on the floor. Scotland rarely - if ever - gets warmer than the mid 20's.
