San Andreas Nut
for some reason selected N.E.R.D. helps me sleep & relax, namely the tracks "Run to the Sun", "Provider", "Maybe" I dunno why but its very relaxing IMO, and they are kind of cheerful. also like to fall asleep listening to Efterklang, Boards of Canada etc. Boards Of Canada is so chillout but sometimes I feel a little sad when listening to music like that so I stick to N.E.R.D. So what does it for you?
Alternative Child
I listen to Buddy Holly, its soothing and slow. I usually start off with some "Earth Angel" and then by the end of that, i'm smooth out.

Jack_Knife
Explosions In The Sky are very relaxing, but for me they're too epic to get me to sleep. Post-rock in general is a pretty good choice for sleep music, though. Also seconding Boards of Canada, especially The Campfire Headphase. "You can play faster than Al Di Meola and do it with only one pinky, but if you're not listening to what is going on around you, you might as well just shut up" isn't your croth suppose to be erecting when you have an orgasm? I heard that before, about sigur ros and radiohead, yet I've never seen the comparison. They're one of those bands that are totally unique. It's hard to pin them down to anything, be it genre or another artist. As for BoC, like Jack_Knife said, the Campfire Headphase album, in its entirety. How about some stoner stuff like Electric Wizard or Sleep? I think it can be pretty relaxing (it depends of your music taste of course).

The Bone County Butcher
I always fall asleep to Al Stewart songs. I put on his greatest hits album and i cant stay awake past the 4th song. Very calming music..........weird though since Slayer used to be my falling asleep music.

Bigs
Depends on how I'm feeling I guess. A variety of different stuff. Victor Jara is one that comes to mind. I enjoy his soft music and his voice, and because I'm not fluent in spanish, I don't have to think about the lyrics or try to decipher their meaning. Which is something I can't help but do with music in English. U2, Silver Jews, REM, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Candlemass, etc. The last one may seem a bit out of place, but it works so whatever. EmSixTeen
Aside from the recommendations like Boards of Canada and Sigur Rós, my own experience is I can't sleep to anything with a real sing-song melody or the likes, my head gets caught up in the song and I can never doze off.. I've usually needed some form of a beat of the likes to help me.. The Mushroom Jazz series by DJ Mark Farina is very good, they're all packed with nice and laid back hip-hop. Good stuff.
