Red Dwarf

What do you reckon are the chances of a Red Dwarf 9? I'm hoping they do & I think it is a huge possibility. The last episode on series 8, Only the Good.... , it said The End afterwards, and then it said, the smeg it is...so could this mean they will make another one? I've also heard they might make a movie?

As I recall, the last two series were pretty poor. One through six were great, but I thought it kinda lost direction from there on out. I did hear about a film being in production, but this was a while ago.

The movie has been in development for the last 3 years, at least you can read what there is about it at the red dwarf website.. i can't remember what it is i think its http://reddwarf.co.uk i haven't been there for a while but i do agree a new series would be good just to see how it finishes, i remember watching red dwarf at a mates plus just drinking and sitting around, ahh the good ol' days. hahaha

There's as much chance of a Red Dwarf film as there being another Max Payne game. It's been in the pipeline for years, but nobody wants to fund it without them want to change the cast, like getting Hugh Grant to play Rimmer or something daft like that. Another series would be good, but then again everybody likes Dr *bleeping* Who, so for the Beeb to commision another Sci-Fi series.... Oh the humanity.

 

Besides series 7 and 8 weren't that great, so they would really have to go back to basics to make it what it once was.

I love red dwarf so much, from the dialogue driven first series to the awesomeness up to season 6. Kochanski killed the show. I still love it all though, the books are sweet too.

They better make a new series, its the only comedy I can watch over & over and still laugh. All the actors, Doug & Naylor are interested in making a new series or movie, but yes no one is going to fund it! But if they do make another one and get new actors, I probably won't watch it, look what happened to the American Red Dwarf, they couldn't find actors that could do the role properly, especially cat.

There was Doug Naylor and Rob Grant, collectively known as a gestalt entity Grant Naylor. But pickyness aside, Doug Naylor who took over Series 6 onwards wants it to continue as a film project, altough I don't think a series would be out of the question. Rob Grant left before Series 6, rumour cites 'artistic differences', this rumour was due to the fact that Rob didn't want Kochanski to be introduced as a main character as he always saw that as being Listers Goal, which I would agree with and not only that, no offence to Chloe Annett, it would have been better with Clare Grogan (or is that because she was my boyhood crush )

 

But your right the US version of Red Dwarf was a bit, erm... poo.

 

But if you're wanting a good L.O.L. comedy I would recommend Coupling, that always makes me ROFL

Whoops sorry I meant Grant & Naylor, I always get it mixed up. Yes I didn't like Kochanski either, I think she thought herself as perfect which isn't Red Dwarf, all the other characters had problems with themselves which made it funny (Rimmer is a coward, Cat is selfish & self absorbing, Lister is lazy & a slob, Kryten is ummmm just weird!), she just didn't fit in. I thought both the actors were crap as well, Grogan & Annett so I think thats why Kochanski wasn't a main character in the beginning (because of Grogans acting ability) and it should of remained the same in the latter series.

 

edit:Oh I almost forgot Holly, who thought her/his IQ was 6000, but made us all believe it was really 6

I love RD; I think it went pants after series 5. Like everyone said above it seemed to loose direction. I seriously doubt that you will see another series of the show; the actors are starting to look quite old. In regards to a movie, I heard that no one was willing to put up the cash to make the film, except for an American company, but they wanted to change all the actors, which would kill Red Dwarf.
