silvermanblue
Well I was surfing the web And I started wondering why some games have huge amounts of mods. And others dont have any. Is it just simply a matter of encrypted vs. non encripted Engines. Now I do know once a games engine is realeased open sorce mods muliply very quikly. I mean look at how many mods are out for doom. I have some more qeustions, I will post later. Leone Family Mafia ПРОПАГАНДА.ИНЦ, СИЛВЕРМАНБЛУЕ
beanmachine43
Well, I'd imagine what you said would be most of it, since many developers are very open with their mod commuities and thrive on them. Also it would be popularity, since I'd bet Half-Life wouldn't have near as many players if it weren't for Counter-Strike, that goes for games like Doom and GTA as well. silvermanblue
See I was considering messing with the original driver engine. I figured that it would be easy to work with being a ten year old game. But unfortionatly there are absoulutly no mods for this game, at all. So I wonder what makes it so unmoddable. I mean with renderware nobody realeased it open source, but look at how successful this community got. So that means that even if a company doesent realese the engine its still possible to mod it. jarjar
It all depends on two things, one, the popularity of the game and people wishing to extend that popularity. And secondly, the features the game has, and how there created. The engine doesn't have much to do with it, because no matter what there people out there smart enough to find a way around it. The main thing is the features, the more features already in the game, the more code available to extend then features and the game itself. Theres one limit with modding, and thats if there is not already a way or a code to do something or, do something similar. Unlike normal programming, with game modding, if you don't have the ability already within the game and it's engine, theres no way your gonna be able to do it. Unless you program yourself in a hook or some sort, which is not the easiest thing to do I would think.
