gta_player5
I recently got Rome Total War along with the Barbarian Invasion expansion pack but they have been causing me some trouble. When I attempt to begin a battle I see the loading screen and I hear the music playing but those two end and the game closes and I see my desktop. I don't know why this is so that is why I am asking here. This page shows the specs of my computer. If you can tell me why it is doing this I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. kingzing
Looking at the specs of your computer, it says you've got an integrated 64MB videocard. I think this might be the problem, seeing as the screen won't show anything and crashes back to the desktop. The rest of your machine is more than adequate to play Rome but I don't think your videocard supports the 3D acceleration features used by the game. If you look at the bottom of the box it tells you what the system requirements are for Rome. Frankly, integrated cards just can't play modern games i.e. anything released from pretty much 2000 onwards. You'll be lucky to get a game to run, and even if it does display something onscreen, it will be at an unplayable framerate. You should consider getting a new videocard, and quite possibly a new motherboard. I don't *actually* know what the real problem could be because my knowledge is fairly limited, but I think what I've said could be very likely. Try posting in the PC Chat forum. They could probably help you out a bit more.
gta_player5
Thanks for the advice kingzing. I have thought before of getting a new video card but before now I have never really been into pc gaming. I really like the game but am unable to play it. So I think I will buy a new graphics card. Thanks for the help.
Hammer_Minister_of_War
Thanks for the advice kingzing. I have thought before of getting a new video card but before now I have never really been into pc gaming. I really like the game but am unable to play it. So I think I will buy a new graphics card. Thanks for the help. This is not going to answer your question because I am not a technician. However, I used to play Rome Total War when it first came out and I am offering you a word to the wise about getting expanded [i did not get the Barbarian expansion pack!] What I mean by expanded is getting the game to unlock the other factions that you can play. When you start you have to use one of the 3 Roman Factions and have to win a campaign before the computer unlocks the other factions. What I finally did was play the SHORT Campaign Option with the Julii (sp?) and to win the campaign I had to eliminate the Gauls. This was both difficult [for me anyway as I never did complete a long campaign!] and quite enjoyable! Before it was over I was in a fight with Spain and Brittainia before I was able to root out the Gauls! Brittainia with their chariots were quite a challenge and I turned the tide when I sent out a group of assassins and started killing off the Captains that were leading the raids on my troops! Anyway, once I finally found that last hidden Gaul outpost I won the short campaign victory and got to play around with the other factions that got unlocked after my victory! Problem was I would progress only so far and then decide to play around with another faction! Had a lot of fun with it, but was into playing baseball entire seasons and only played Rome once in a while when I got the bug again! Just bought Medieval II Total War and my time is greatly reduced from when I played Rome, but I will have to take the same Short Game approach to open up other factions at a later time! Enjoy! gta_player5
In order for me to be able to play this game can anybody recommend a graphics card to buy? I thought my computer was fully capable of playing this game but I guess I was wrong because the graphics card can't handle it. Thanks for the help, I just need to know of a good card to buy. Pranjal
Try the NVIDIA 6600 or the 7XXX series . They are widely available, can play almost all current games, and they are also quite cheap now. Since Rome: TW was released 2-3years ago, it should run well.
