As some of you might remember the pixel-car sig trend a while ago... I'm the one that started it all. biggrin.gif

Anyhow, here's one on large scale in process.

It's very simple really, all you have to do is make a layer over the image of the car and just "trace" it.

But the hard part would be coloring it. tounge.gif

Yep, all I used was pencil, paint bucket, and gradient.

Update: Basic colors and gradient added.

Looks nice and neat. Good job.

I once tried making a vector Carrera GT, but I only traced the car with the pencil tool and left it. biggrin.gif I have the .PSD somewhere, maybe one of these days I'll finish it.

Some very nice line art.. looks like a trace, but still, looks great.

Filling it is going to be real annoying though.. Good Luck.

Looks quite good. How do you consider it, finished or in progress? If in progress, what are you going to add?

It's still in process, need to add some more coloring (shiny surfaces and such).

EDIT:

The finished product:

And my next project, if you can guess what it is, you win a cookie! tounge.gif

TO DO: Add shiny&darker surfaces

Also I've made a tutorial on this long ago and seem it's lost somewhere.. but I'll be glad to make a new one if you guys are interested.

is that a amercian i haven't seen them in england

If you use those squishy round things in your skull, you'll notice the Chevy badge on the grille. Ergo, it is an American car. The Camaro concept if I'm not mistaken.

Wow that's nice dontgetit.gif I really like your work.

-simple thing you forgot to trace and colour is the fourth wheel at the back of the chevy.

The regulars down this block know I'm not a man to give away complements like that, but that is truly amazing, dude.

GTA3Freak-2001

Yeah I remember doing a few myself but rather then using real photos I was using Vice City screenshots of car models. It makes it easier when it comes to shading and colouring.

EDIT: Just found a few I did on my hard drive back then:

Haha! Nice Freakah, too bad mine were gone, due to my retard laptop wiping everything out.. bored.gif

EDIT: I've wrote a tutorial below.

-mattew1g: From a closer inspection of the image I was using, I couldn't really see the fourth wheel so it's not possible to trace it. notify.gif

-vinnygouveia: Sure, if you can provide a good picture of it. sly.gif

Pixel Car Tutorial
Requires Adobe Photoshop! and lot of time to kill. smile.gif
First of all, this is a trace art, but it's fun! Here's a quick preview of how they are made:

user posted image

As you can see, there are different stages with different purposes in between. I'll give a detailed write-down on each stage below.

Stage One: Blueprint
The first thing to do is load up a image of the car you're going to pixel out. It can be a real car, or a screenshot from any GTA games (as long it's GOOD!). Size doesn't matter, whatever floats your boat! Also, make another layer beyond the image and make it white.(To preview your trace work!)

user posted image

Stage Two: Trace
Next step is easy; first make a new layer above the car image and name it "trace" and zoom in on the image by 300% or 400%. Now to trace, you gotta use the pencil tool( 1 pixel size, black ) and start at a point on an edge and work your way around it using holdshift+clicking instead of freestyle drawing which would end up messy, eh?

How to holdshift+clicking:

user posted image

It's like connecting the dots expect there's no dots! When you click in a spot with pencil tool, hold shift and then click on other spot, you will make a straight line. You have to pay attention to the edges on the image and pretend there's dots there! You can download this image and try the "TEST" area.

Stage Three: Gradient tool
For the windows, headlights, or anything that contains glass or whatever you think would be hard to trace, use gradient tool!MAKE A COPY OF THE TRACE LAYER AND NAME IT "WINDOW"

user posted image

Here's how:

user posted image

user posted image

Pretend this is a window on the car, use magic tool and select inside the gap.

user posted image

Use the gradient tool and use whatever color suits your taste.

user posted image

Ta-da!

Stage Four: Colors
Colors! Colors! MAKE A COPY OF THE TRACE LAYER AND NAME IT "COLOR". This is very simple; use the paint bucket tool and fill in everything, you can use the pencil tool if you missed some area (This will occur often!)

Stage Five: Shading

After you're done with coloring, time to do some shading! (Lighter color for shiny surface and darker color for shades and such!)

How to shade:

user posted image

Pretend this is the hood of the car!

user posted image

See the little box at top? And see the original color with new color above, that will be the "shiny" color!

user posted image

Use the holdshift+clicking tech I mentioned above to make a outline for the color!

user posted image

That's how it should look with light and dark colors.
