WhoooMan
As some of you might remember the pixel-car sig trend a while ago... I'm the one that started it all. Anyhow, here's one on large scale in process.
jarjar
Very nice, looks hard though, do you do it yourself or is there a trick to it, like manipulating layers or stuff?
WhoooMan
It's very simple really, all you have to do is make a layer over the image of the car and just "trace" it. But the hard part would be coloring it.
Canoxa
Looks quite nice already. All pencil tool?
WhoooMan
Yep, all I used was pencil, paint bucket, and gradient. Update: Basic colors and gradient added. Edited December 27, 2006 by WhoooMan
Vanillainy
Very nice. Whish i had the patience to do this sort of stuff.
Lost-Fender
Looks nice and neat. Good job. I once tried making a vector Carrera GT, but I only traced the car with the pencil tool and left it. I have the .PSD somewhere, maybe one of these days I'll finish it.
Venom
Some very nice line art.. looks like a trace, but still, looks great. Filling it is going to be real annoying though.. Good Luck.

It's still in process, need to add some more coloring (shiny surfaces and such). EDIT: The finished product: And my next project, if you can guess what it is, you win a cookie! Kaj.
is that a amercian i haven't seen them in england If you use those squishy round things in your skull, you'll notice the Chevy badge on the grille. Ergo, it is an American car. The Camaro concept if I'm not mistaken.
matthew1g
Wow that's nice I really like your work. -simple thing you forgot to trace and colour is the fourth wheel at the back of the chevy.

GTA3Freak-2001
Yeah I remember doing a few myself but rather then using real photos I was using Vice City screenshots of car models. It makes it easier when it comes to shading and colouring. EDIT: Just found a few I did on my hard drive back then:
jarjar
Wow very nice, very very nice Freakeh, awesome work . Love the shading and use of color.
WhoooMan
Haha! Nice Freakah, too bad mine were gone, due to my retard laptop wiping everything out.. EDIT: I've wrote a tutorial below. -mattew1g: From a closer inspection of the image I was using, I couldn't really see the fourth wheel so it's not possible to trace it. -vinnygouveia: Sure, if you can provide a good picture of it. WhoooMan
Pixel Car Tutorial Requires Adobe Photoshop! and lot of time to kill. First of all, this is a trace art, but it's fun! Here's a quick preview of how they are made: As you can see, there are different stages with different purposes in between. I'll give a detailed write-down on each stage below. Stage One: BlueprintThe first thing to do is load up a image of the car you're going to pixel out. It can be a real car, or a screenshot from any GTA games (as long it's GOOD!). Size doesn't matter, whatever floats your boat! Also, make another layer beyond the image and make it white.(To preview your trace work!) Stage Two: TraceNext step is easy; first make a new layer above the car image and name it "trace" and zoom in on the image by 300% or 400%. Now to trace, you gotta use the pencil tool( 1 pixel size, black ) and start at a point on an edge and work your way around it using holdshift+clicking instead of freestyle drawing which would end up messy, eh? How to holdshift+clicking: It's like connecting the dots expect there's no dots! When you click in a spot with pencil tool, hold shift and then click on other spot, you will make a straight line. You have to pay attention to the edges on the image and pretend there's dots there! You can download this image and try the "TEST" area. Stage Three: Gradient toolFor the windows, headlights, or anything that contains glass or whatever you think would be hard to trace, use gradient tool!MAKE A COPY OF THE TRACE LAYER AND NAME IT "WINDOW" Here's how: Pretend this is a window on the car, use magic tool and select inside the gap. Use the gradient tool and use whatever color suits your taste. Ta-da! Stage Four: ColorsColors! Colors! MAKE A COPY OF THE TRACE LAYER AND NAME IT "COLOR". This is very simple; use the paint bucket tool and fill in everything, you can use the pencil tool if you missed some area (This will occur often!) WhoooMan
Stage Five: Shading After you're done with coloring, time to do some shading! (Lighter color for shiny surface and darker color for shades and such!) How to shade: Pretend this is the hood of the car! See the little box at top? And see the original color with new color above, that will be the "shiny" color! Use the holdshift+clicking tech I mentioned above to make a outline for the color! That's how it should look with light and dark colors.

Venom
Pixel art, technically doesn't use automatic gradients... manual, are fine, in a sense.
