Cran.
My brother needs a new head unit for his car, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good, cheap cd tuner with a AUX input for a MP3 player. Thanks.
-slash
It really depends on availability in your area. I'm sure you know to stick with the known brands, so just look for their base models.
Dup
Pioneer - Anything Pioneer. I have the DEH-P77MP, retro looking older model, so should be cheap to get hold of. Sounds brilliant even on the standard kit I had in my pug. You may be able to get hold of newer cheaper models which might be just as good, I dunno what you get down in Aus. Aux input isn't necessarily two phono or a 3.5mm jack. I use an adapter to convert the CD changer input into CD changer + two phono leads, and a phono . 3.5mm jack there after. All this "Ipod Ready" is just an added premium you can add onto most headunits without with a cheap adapter and CD changer port. Even cheaper ones out there if you lack the need for the CD changer. I think they call the CD changer input, the IP port. So you'll need an IP adapter. EDIT: Looking around, theres some cheaper units out there wit 3.5mm jacks in there, like the 4800MP. I cannot comment on sound quality I've not heard a bad Pioneer yet.
Cran.
Screw the iPod ready stuff, after that you need a 50 buck connector or some sh*t. All i've seen from Pioneers with that (Such as the DEH-P4850MP) require you to buy the 60 dollar connector (CD-RB10 or CD-RB20). I've got a two phono to 3.5mm jack converter anyway, so if I can plug either into the back it's no worries. But it'll just be a bitch if I we have to buy any kind of converter. BTW, 4800MP isn't listed anywhere here in Aussieland. Pioneer Australia website I think the Blaupunkt Daytona MP26 (http://www.ryda.com.au/Blaupunkt-DAYTONA-MP26-Car-MP3-Cd-Tuner-p/daytonamp26.htm) has a 3.5mm jack (I remember reading that for some reason) but now I can't seem to find where it said that. What can you tell me about Blaupunkts? I've heard one of those Blaupunkt systems that they put in the Commodores (Now just entry level, high spec has Bose now) and it sounded pretty good. Although, that said the speakers in the 944 are some really crappy 1980s 4x6s. There's a 1990's Sony CD tuner in there at the moment, man that thing screws up.. I'll see if I can find the DEH-P77MP anywhere. If I can't, should I just see if I can get a IP adapter and something with a CD Tuner input? There's no need for a CD Changer. Any other names for the IP adapter? I can't seem to find one. Edited December 25, 2006 by Cran.

Thanks. In the Porsche? Like I say to my friend who owns a '98 318is who is looking for audio equipment... if you are going to drop that amount of moolah on a car in the first place, have the decency and spent a decent amount on whatever you put in it. Eh? You think my brother (who doesn't have a job btw) has the money to spend on an expensive head unit? I know what you mean, there's no point spending ~$100 on some crappy unit to put in a car like that, but I didn't say I was looking for a cheap pos, did I? But that said, what's the point of getting a $500 head unit with lots of unnecessary features that will never be used when a $250 unit will do the same job. By good and cheap, I meant reasonably priced and good value
uzer
I have a JVC AR470, you can get a $3 3.5mm cable that will connect to any mp3 player and plugs right into the faceplate.
Cran.
That's pretty much exactly what i'm looking for. I saw a couple of sonys like that, but i'm not so sure about getting a sony because of the last one
Cran.
Went to Strathfield @ Black Forrest. They had some really good deals. Got a Sony CDXGT250 (With a Front 3.5mm AUX in) which came with a pair of Sony XSGF1621 170w 2way speakers. The deal was $179 which was less than the RRP of the head unit. (Which was $299). Also got some JBL GTO6426 4X6s for the doors, which was $89 bucks. The system sounds pretty good, much better than the old combo. I just hope this Sony doesn't screw up like the old one. epoxi
If you're on a budget, there's plenty of unbranded Korean and Chinese units that support everything in existance. Hint, hint: HINT
