The tougher sport?

When I mentioned Kimbo, I was talking about straight up, no rules street fighting. But in organized sh*t, Muay Thai is nuts.

I still believe that ice hockey is more rough and though than rugby and football. You get going up to thirty miles per hour, and some six foot five inch two hundred and fifty pound blueliner steps out in front of you and knocks you down onto the rock hard ice. While on the ice you're subject to razor sharp skate blades, that can cut your throat like a warm knife through butter. After you get up, you have to skate as hard and fast as you can down to the other end of the rink, and then you have to drop back down onto the ice into the path of a hundred mile per hour rock hard frozen puck to block a shot. And Goalies, do you guys think that the pads actually stop the pain? Nope, they just stop enough of the force to not badly injure you. And after all of that a goon with a mean uppercut pulls your shirt over your head, and starts wailing on your face. And that's just a one minute shift.

It's as close to war as any sport gets.

ever seen shinty?. Its like Ice hokey but without the ice and all the protective gear. nothing hurts as much as catching a shinty stick in the face, you can forget about the use of your fingers after a game.

Once again, 100 mph rock hard frozen chunk of rubber...

The video quality isn't too good, but there is blood pouring from his nose, that he just recent to that video had broken.

And then there's the skates. Which you really don't want me to break out the Clint Malarchuk video. I'll let anyone curious look that one up themselves. Aw, f*ck it...

i wish i could do the sport of shinty a little more justice, unfortunately the north of scotland doesnt have a big youtube community. but injuries are often and often involve a break somewhere in the body. untill ice hockey takes off here i cant judge, but shintys up there with the toughest.

I'm a rugby man, can only get a game for the 2nd team these days though. Havent done to badly in the way of injuries, I'm definitely a lot uglier than I used to be though. American football just gets scoffed at where I'm from. Is it a serious sport?.. I dunno. Rugby is definitely the more phisical of the two. Alot more demanding aswell I'd wager.

American Football - Without pads, some of their players would die from serious injuries if they didn't wear them.

The tackling is much more ferocious then it is in Rugby.

Infact in my opinion it is the 2nd most dangerous sport after Boxing.

Bowing? You think boxing is the most dangerous?

Boxing is much more dangerous than MMA.

In MMA, the blows are spread around the body, while in boxing, for the most part is constant hits to the head. Look what happened to Oscar Diaz, he had to have surgery to reduce swelling in his brain, how its it not dangerous?

Boxing is nothing more than a touch sport. Boxers are there to score points, not to fight. Just the other day I watched a Josh Koshcheck fight in the UFC against some guy who's name I didn't bother to learn. The fight lasted the whole three rounds despite Koshcheck's opponent getting one hell of a cut in round 2. For the next round and a half Koshcheck was trying everything to make this cut worse. I'm talking punching it to hell, ripping it open with his forearm.. everything.

In boxing that fight would have been stopped in round two. There ain't no ropes to duck under in mma. But thats another story regarding this topic.

You're right, I'm not denying MMA is dangerous, hell, any form of combat is.

It's obvious that Mr.Rockstar here hasn't been hit by a boxing glove though. They aren't soft, they hurt like hell, man.

Ah, so It's boxing thats being compared to rugby now? At the end of the day It's a combat sport being compared to a team sport, you can't really compare the two.

In general though, pads seem to be an American concept. We don't bother wearing them over here, whether that be fighting, rugby or both.

Why don't all you American lads get on your cups and come meet us for a game of rugby at Twickenham. ware all the padding you like and we'll see who comes worse off! It's the only way.......

(edit, they'll let anyone play at Twickenham these days) icon14.gif

Oh, they're both brutal. Like it's been said, the pads in American football are because there are a lot of hard head-on tackles. In rugby, most tackles as you see in American football would be illegal.

Still, rugby takes a lot of endurance and you don't have the luxury of having the play end for a little bit of recuperation time like you do in American football.

I'd say it's even - neither one is for pussies tounge.gif

Don't take that stuff at your age man. You won't be able to synthesize proteins when your older. Go to that site 'Bawjaws' has in his sig and get yourself some proper stuff.

Lets just say Mainland Marauder, you would'nt catch a rugby player sticking on pads for any sport.

Quick edit: British bulldog can get nasty. Dunno if it counts as a sport though.

Hell yeah. That game was/is the sh*t.

I remember back in the day people would end up with blood dripping from their faces and bruises all over. Damn it was fun.

Haha f*ck that takes me back to my childhood

Rugby all the way. playing both sports i picked up alot more bigger hits and injuries in rugby. Always coming home with a gashed leg, cut brow and a black eye. also its a faster paced game, only stopping now and then for an injury but ur playing 40 mins flat out 10 min break then back on for 40 mins. i love american football it is intense but i feel more at home on the rugby field

Almost everyone plays both ways in high school...

Ewww, what high school did you go to? barf8bd.gif

I would also have to say rugby, though I enjoy American football more (Probably just 'cuz that's what I was raised on)... Although, while rugby players play without padding/helmets (cups?), they also don't weigh 250lbs like some football players, so sometimes football can hurt a lot more.

Still, I say rugby's gnarlier, but I still prefer football. smile.gif

haha heaviest rugby union (union player) to play in the world cup is 152.7kg thats more then 259lbs...

Errrgh, that show. They did a cricket vs baseball thing, and brought in this amateur cricketer for the US national team (which ranks somewhere between 'bin' and 'useless' on the world scale) to face up against Mark Reynolds (who is kind of good or something), and produced their findings that he was able to hit more deliveries with a straight face, using readings like bat speed which mean nothing in cricket.

There's always going to be conjecture, no matter what 'science' is used and from which angle it is brought in from. You just need to remember that is is a show made by Americans, for Americans, telling Americans exactly what they want to hear. They wouldn't get ratings otherwise.

Wait that was'nt a fair test. Why is the rugby player hitting another guy but the football guy hits a dummy?

I think I replied in this topic already but I'm going to reply again ignoring what I may have said before.

Ok I love football, I love contact sports. I've never personally played rugby before but it seems like a faster more humble version of football (speaking as someone who hasn't played). I've played football without pads, amd it gets ridiculously rough. There is a reason they wear all that stuff and you really can't use that as a point against them. I saw something o tv where they tried to see how much force Ray Lewis had in a tackle compared to a battering ram. Needless to say Ray won with not much space to gain speed. With men playing like that I'd hate to see the equipment come off. Some man (sorry forgot his name) was already practically paralyzed a couple seasons back and Reggie Bush probably saw his life flash before his eyes when he got demolished. I can't say whose better but I'd like to see the best from both play eachother in Rugby and Football.

I would have to say that rugby is the more rough of the two sports. I've personally played rugby in highschool, and played a little bit of football (without the gear), and I do find rugby to be rougher. I got T boned once in rugby and my leg was jet black for about a month. Don't get me wrong, I love footbal and even have a buddy in the NFL (Kenton Keith), but rugby she is pretty tough! icon14.gif

Never played American Football but I can confirm that Rugby is very, very tough.

I played in school when I was just 10 to 11 years old and I was one of the stronger, tougher kids, but still, the sport took a toll on me and I left it.

Since then I've been playing and training extremely hard in football (association/soccer), it's very physical, but it's nowhere near as painful and injury-prone. Plus, it's by far always been my favourite sport anyway, hah.

I was the same, the two sports I've always played were football (soccer) and rugby. I played both up till I was 16 and rugby just took too much of a toll on my body that it was getting in the way of my academic studies. Try writing with your left hand because your broke your right arm, very fustrating angry.gif

I'm 20 now and still play football but would love to get back to rugby someday as I still love it. I just hope i have more luck with injuries as I was getting constantly injured in Rugby.
