jarjar
GTA Text Encoder v4.0 --Introduction-- GTA Text Encoder was made to make conversions of data files from format to format. It can convert any Grand Theft Auto data file as well as normal Text Files (.txt) into any other file format related to Grand Theft Auto data files, text files and/or custom formats. It's a much faster way then doing it through other applications that require a lot more work to achieve the same result as GTA Text Encoder will with a few steps. --Requirements-- Disk Space - Under 100kb's Referances - Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en#RelatedDownloads) --Installation-- No major installation needed, just extract the files in the zip file to any directory on your computer and run the executable (.exe) from there. --Bugs-- No bugs as of yet, troubleshooting went on for longer then the programming to insure there were small bugs like the last versions. If you find any, please do make me aware of it via e-mail and I will have it fixed as soon as possible. --History-- Jan 16 2006 - Version 2.4 released with a large number of bugs and glitches. A faster version, but not as stable nor productive. A large number of new features and new file formats supported. Dec 27 2005 - First version, not many features, and very simple at heart. --Screenshot-- --Download-- GTAGarage

Blackadder.
If I'm not wrong it re-formats the lines so it works between them. Good Job jarjar
jarjar
i dont realy see the point when you can just change the file extention manualy... Then don't use it, simple as that. Myself, I find this easier then doing it manually. You can have this open, and not have to have tons of other windows open to rename files extensions. Plus, as stated by B18, it is not always that simple either.
dertyjerzian
I'm not dissing you Jared, but I'm lost in this topic after two replies and a return from you! I don't understand the discussion about extensions... I have never needed to change .ipl to something else... Never needed to change .dat to a .ide for instance... I can't see what this tool is actually doing? I mean, whi would I ever need to convert text files? Unless this is for brand new Notepad texts that were written by hand or pasted from some export script (speaking in terms of map text files now)? But all I've ever done is copied and renamed any existing files I may have needed and opened them in notepad, editing away. IPL and IDE files are always assosiated with notepad when I am working on GTA games, and any other GTA text file that isn't already assosiated with some other software, so I've just had to click and edit click and edit... So I'm not catching on? It looks like it could be useful and reads that way too, but as a modder, I haven't been persuaded as to the benefit or advance that this program will make. As a mapper, I use IPL/IDE and GTA.DAT files most of all, how will this tool improve my workflow? How will it make things more faster and more motivating? Unless I have understood the program wrong? ceedj
how will this tool improve my workflow? How will it make things more faster and more motivating? This is an excellent question, and while I don't have a solution, I DO have a suggestion: what about multiple files open and editable at once? Kind of like the tabs you have now, but bigger tabs for each open doc, then the smaller tabs below. Might take up a bit of extra screen space, but I'd love to be able edit or at least view multiple files from one app. Adding to that, some "Favorite" locations would be handy, so you could set up a few different directories to automatically go to rather than File | Open | Browse though 18,000 folders to find the one you want to work on. This really does have a ton of potential if expanded on a bit more. Oooo, here's an insane idea: making a gta_vc.dat (or whatever game) have links in the file, so you could just click it or right click to open the file referenced. So if I clicked on an IDE file, it would pop open that file for viewing/editing. I'll leave it at that for now; I could be here all day coming up with crazy ideas for you. I'm actually not against democracy though. I'm against things I think are f*cking stupid. I think this is f*cking stupid. - Sweets
Leon Blade
Yeah.... This is just a simple text editor... Almost like notepad... oh wait... it is notepad... I assumed you made this in Visual Basic, Visual C++, something to do with Visual whatever. The component your using is TextBox or RichTextBox, which is actually Notepad and Wordpad. So, all you have done is created a GUI for a notepad and slapped on the name GTA Text Encoder 4.0 Not that big of an accomplishment... Alright I'm opening the program now... Yeah this was made in Visual Basic... OK... The zoom feature is really pointless... This is done in a TextBox rich or not, I'm not sure. The magnification feature increases the text size for unknown reasons... Why would you want it that big? I don't know... Preview button... which is also pointless... why would you want to preview it if it's right there? The toolbar at the top also has a preview and edit buttons... Which are misplaces because Edit should be first to correspond with the Tabs... So that can be confusing... Lol... Alright we are now going to "encode" the file... Here is the options.. Normal... Text... wait... Normal and Text both save their files as .TXT So why is there two options? This is another useless thing. It's also nice that when I make my "custom" extension when I press the Cancel button it's just like clicking OK So the cancel button doesn't even work... which is a key feature I look forward to in my applications... It would of been nice if the program would of stored my Custom Extension because I gave it the "professional" name and all, I don't wanna type that in again. The Open Icon doesn't look like an open icon if you know what I mean... And encoding is the key with the arrow which I don't even know if that fits... And last but not least... When I "encode" my file... all it does is re saves it as another extension... So why would I want to open a file... change it to another... it's not going to work in the game. So why bother? This program is useless... The only thing it does is has a list of files built in to the SaveFileDialogs... But all it is, is just a simple text editor... So in the end... This program is an epic fail... The End... --Leon Blade
