changing graphics settings

Hi,

 

Hope some one can help.

 

I'm wondering if there is any way I can change my GTA graphics settings with out using the options menu, for example by editing a text file?

 

GTA crashes when I go to Options->Display->Advanced

 

I can play GTA it is just very slow on my system and I have no way of turning the graphics down.

Some details about my system:

 

ATI 9250 AGP 256mb

Intel celeron D 64bit 3.0 Ghz

Windows XP SP2

Have you tried reinstalling the game?

 

If so, did you try putting it in a different directory, ie. in C:\Rockstar Games\GTA rather than in the default C:\Program Files\...?

 

Lastly, try removing the old install completely (BACK UP the My Documents\GTA Player Files file unless you want to start all over from the beginning), then restart the PC.

 

Reinstall the game, change the video settings to 800x600 or even 640x480, and start a new game. Save once, then quit and put the savegames back into My Documents and all your old games should be there with the new settings.

Thanks I will try this tonight, haven't tried re-installing.

 

Unfortunately it is my graphics card that is the problem, the ATI drivers will not install on my pc so I had to do a force install with the INF files. I have contacted ATI about this but am still waiting for a reply. I can still play some games their are just little glitches like random crashes and BMSoD (Black Musical Screen of Death).
