*gta star*
I'm interested in a career in the Police Force, in which I would like to join the air divising and become a pilot. However, since planes and engineering are two subjects which fascinate me, I thought it might be a good experience to get a Microsoft Flight Simulator game. Does anyone know about the game at all ? Such questions I'm interested in answers for are; Do you fly all ranges of planes? Do you have any passengers on board, making the game realistic ? Are there weather conditions etc? Please reply, as soon as possible. Thank you.
vALKYR
From what I've heard, it's very realistic and very far from arcade, brainless flying around. It's with navigation, flight techniques and all kinds of stuff to e.g fly a plane without problems in fog, rain, storm etc. And yes, you can fly anything from a BELL Helicopter to a Airbus A380. I flew myself a few times, from Innsbruck in the Tyrol to Amsterdam. From Amsterdam to Heathrow, London and from there I switched to a Boeing 777 and flew per navigation to New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Took me 2 days so yes, it is realistic. *gta star*
Wow, sounds great to me and you've got a bit of experience at it, judging by your post doing all that flying ( ). However, what game did you do that in ? Was it Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 ?
GTAThomas
If your computer can handle it I suggest getting Flight Simulator X. It's pretty expensive but very very realistic. Even with a full 3D cockpit like the vehicles in BF2 (lol). FS2004 is OK, and can run on just about any computer. Also, I suggest looking for a joystick or better yet a virtual plane dashboard controler.

GTA3Freak-2001
There's no doubt its realistic but it is not a substitute for the real thing and you can't really learn to fly with it without proper "real" training and experience.
Hurricane5
I've been using Microsoft Flight Simulator since 95 came out. It's a magnificent tool for learning and experiencing the basics, and basically familiarising yourself with conditions, controls, equipment and such. Of course, you need real life training, and this cannot cover all the subjects, or experiences, but, It would help in your real life training. *gta star*
Thanks for the replies to this guys. Can this game be played with a normal mouse ? I'm considering getting a joystick anyway, but can a joystick be used for other games ? Like driving and shooting ? My computer can barely handle Microsoft Flight Simulator X, but I think I'll get "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2005- A Century of flight". Anyone know how much this game would cost ? However, what game did you do that in ? Was it Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 ? Flight Sim 2002 Professional, with downloaded Lockheed L011 Tristar and a stock Boeing 777. I landed without problems on Heathrow, JFK and McCarran Airport but kinda rushed into the sea on LAX as I forgot the flaps or whatever they're called on english
*gta star*
They're called 'Rudders' mate. Thanks for replying. Anyone know anything about Joysticks for PC'S ? I want to get one for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Will any joystick do to play a flying game ? This one for example; http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw...sm=null&tm=null
-slash
If you want a close to authentic experience, then you should look towards something with a separate throttle control. Saitek have a decent joystick + throttle combo for around $200AUD. Rudder pedals can be brought separately if you want to be that pedantic about realism, and they're also $200AUD. If you're going to buy just a joystick, get one with twist, so that can be used for rudder control. Force feedback is something I tend to avoid because all it does is interfere with control, but it's a personal thing.
*gta star*
Well, I think a normal joystick would do me. I'm not considering in it being so realistic, a joystick for me is real enough because a plane has a control like a Joystick for turning, except it's like a wheel. A joystick just makes a game better because they are obviously better than a mouse, for this genre of game anyway. Thanks for the reply though. When I go to the shop, I'll ask them which one do they recommend for this type of game.
-slash
Yeah, you at least need a joystick, I wouldn't touch any flight sim without one.
*gta star*
Yep, I'll get one. I'll see what the shop recommends for this genre of game. Thanks for your help mate.
Greene
The last Flight Simulator game I played was 2002. I got addicted to the game. Its really a great experience playing it. I remember flying from Dublin to New York. Unfortunetly I crashed on JFK runway. Everyone should take safety in knowing I'll never be a pilot. *gta star*
I went to the store today, they only had "Microsoft Flight Simulator X" and the guy told me that not many people buy it because it needs really good specs and recommended me to get a fun fighter jet simulation game. It looks good on the box ! Falcon something, last part of the name has slipped my mind. It's only about a year old, but it really does look fun. F-16 fighter jets, good controls and graphics and Air Traffic Control too.

Deuce Deuce
I'm actually downloading Flight Simulator X right now, as I myself am quite interested in this whole idea. 30% already and I only started downloading less than 10 min. ago. (It's like 800 meg). Anyway, I'm sure joysticks are compatible with all games - I'm just not sure. @Master-Of-GTA: I have 45 GB free space on my comp, so it's all good. *gta star*
You need a good PC to be able to run Flight Simulator X, just put it that way. EDIT: Here are the sytem specifications for Flight Simulator X; 1.0 Ghz Processor 256mb Windows Service Pack 2 14Gb Hard Drive space 56k internet connection, for online play, minimum 32Mb DirectX 9 Compatible video card and audio board, with speakers or headphones If you are unsure, just use this website: www.canirunit.com Search for the game, this will tell you whether you can play it or not. I doubt you could though mate, not with that graphics card anyway. Edited December 24, 2006 by *gta star*

Torcidas
I have the game. Yeah, in Flight Simulator X, there are Single Engine, Twin Engine, Commercial, etc. In the Deluxe version, they include military airplanes. Mission wise, yes, there are passengers, but in free flight mode, you can pretend there are. There are also options available to you, such as: Open Exit, Turn on Seatbelt Icon (Cabin Crew), Lighting, Fuel Tanks, Vehicles to approach your plane, and hundreds of other things. Only thing complicated is, you must memorize A LOT of commands, and some may get confusing. The basics are simple. Weather conditions. Like you have no idea. From plain, to cloudy, to stormy, to snowy, and dozens more to choose from, and set their intensity level. You can even set it to World Time Weather based on your location if you have internet, so you can play in the same conditions as outside! You have the entire world to explore. And in real time. So if you were to fly from Toronto to Frankfurt, it would really take you 7, 8 (or whatever) hours. There are real landmarks. Eg - Eiffel Tower, Mt. Everest, Las Vegas, etc. I strongly reccomend this game, for any use. Also, did you know?: Real world pilots use FSX for training in certain colleges and camps? Hope I helped. *gta star*
Yeah, pilots use this game because it's so realistic. I'm going to get this game after Christmas, my computer can certainly run it so it really should be a good experience. You did help mate, gave more of an insight into the game. Thanks for your post. Mark
MSFS makes me cry after using my unis flight sim. MSFS is passable for real life, but isn't quite there. I've heard even people with top spec PCs are having problems running FSX at full, so even if my PC is fine for specs I'm not even gonna try it lol. What are your other specs? Hah, sorry. Joke. That's the minimum specs though mate, meaning your PC will "run" the game which is only part of what you'd need to actually enjoy the game. Running smoothly it won't with the specs you've got I am afraid. And regarding some real pilots using FSX in colleges and stuff, FSX is only part of it as they use machines that simulate the movements as well as the physical cockpit. Most people don't have one of these in their homes I am sure as they cost sh*tloads.
*gta star*
Yeah, they use Simulators aswell. I could imagine them costing alot too, simulation of a pilot's cockpit takes some technology.
