RDK9390
Been wonderin about this... Do you think Rockstar had vice city stories planned out when vice city was made (storyline, setting, year, etc)...or they just came up with it as an expansion? I kind of think the expansion sounds more reasonable
Pat
R* didn't even know the PSP would exist back then.
pimp_60cent
Personally i Don't think R* had the idea to make VCS at the time VC came out back in '02. The reason they released LCS and VCS is so we wouldnt be waiting 3 years from when San Andreas('04) came out to when GTAIV ('07) would be released. Feel free to disagree

Like Pat said, the PSP really wasn't around, so they probably had no plans for it unitl it did come out. Then R* was like, "Ah, lets get into the portable gaming business." Thus began the GTA Stories.
Vanilla Shake
I kind of agree with all of you. For one, back when VC was first being written, R* more than likely had no idea that Sony was going to make PSP. And, they probably are releasing the "Stories" games to help ease the fact that we would have had to wait 3 full years without a new GTA title between SA and GTA IV. But now my opinion comes into play. I think that they are doing the "Stories" games for all of the above reasons, and for another. I think that one of the other reasons they're making them is because they want to expand on the stories that already exist in LC, VC, etc. (hence the term "Expansions"), making the story even bigger and possibly for trying out new types of gameplay (like some of the multi-tasked missions in VCS). silencio
R* most probably went into the portable gaming business to rake in more money....i highly doubt the fact tat R* tot abt this "Stories" saga due to the fact tat there was no such thing as PSP....when PSP came out...R* most probably wanted to make some profit by intoducing the GTA franchise to the PSP....they were aos smart enuf to choose the Storiesto be at least a couple of years before the actual Vice city or Liberty city...so tat they cld round off things and made sure tat nuthing from the original VC and LC did not contradict the "Stories".... Jay
There were so many characters in all the GTA's that creating storylines in different timeframes is relatively easy. There is no way they had a grand plan, they just left it all open.
Kippers
Think about it...If R* had VCS planned back before '02, then surely they would have made that and released it on PS2 before making Vice City right?? 習うより慣れろ
GTA_Loco
I guess it's quite standard in writing a story to always create to a degree, an open-ended storyline and along with it, character development plot, so that sub-stories or mini-stories based on the original can always be considered in the future if need be. Rockstar may have already planned the creation of LCS and VCS way back when they decided to create the trilogy, and not just products of random thoughts. The details though of the two "Stories" series may not have been concrete and final, but the frameworks are already there. As to the platform play ability, that can be just something technical they can make adjustments to.
