Ben
Alrightio. There should be a readme included with the mod which explains this, but I'll go over it for you anyway . This is the basic process used to replace any vehicle in GTA3/VC (not sure about SA though as I've never tried with it). The most important step in any modding endeavour is to BACK UP FIRST! So for all the files that need to be modified (that is, gta3.img, default.ide, vehicles.col, carcols.dat and handling.cfg), copy them into another place on your PC that you'll remember. The DFF is the actual car model itself, and it is to be placed in gta3.img (in your VC\models folder). The TXD (texture directory) contains all of the textures that the car model uses (its colourings, effects, etc.) and it should also go in gta3.img. To do this IMG work, I recommend using IMG Tool. You'll need to rebuild the archive after you've added the files. The COL file is the collision data for the car, and it needs to be placed in vehicles.col (in your VC\models\coll folder). You'll need Collision Editor II to do this (just open up vehicles.col with it, and you'll easily be able to add the COL file for your car). Save when you've done this. The handling line simply contains values for the game to read relating to how the car handles. Simply open up handling.cfg (in your VC\data folder) with Notepad, find the DELUXO line, and overwrite it with the line supplied with the mod. Save when you've done this. The carcols data relates to the car's basic colour I think. Simply open up carcols.dat (in your VC\data folder) with Notepad and find the DELUXO line. Overwrite it with the values supplied with the mod. Save when you've done this. Finally, the default.ide. This file is basically a central reference point that ties the car together, allowing the game to use it. It contains the model ID number, model/txd name, handling name, and other data. Open it up (in your VC\data folder) with Notepad, and find the DELUXO line (model ID 211). Simply overwrite this line with the one supplied with the mod, and save when you're done. The car should now be installed. You can find it at the Sunshine Autos showroom (where the Deluxo was). Enjoy . EDIT - Oops, overlooked question 3. There's a few things you'll need to change to make the car work in GTA3, and I'm not sure that it'll work. The reason is because there's a few fundamental differences in the way that VC works compared to GTA3. The DFF should work, as far as I know. As for the TXD, VC stores vehicle reflections in each vehicles individual TXD, whereas GTA3 stores all vehicle reflections in particle.txd (in GTA3\models). Furthermore, the VC TXDs use DXT compression, which isn't supported in GTA3, so you'd have to remove that. This can all be done relatively easily in TXD Workshop. And you'd have to stick your modified TXD in txd.img instead of gta3.img for GTA3. Even after this, I'm not entirely sure it'd work. Oh, and I forgot something - you'd have to rename both the DFF and TXD (and possibly the actual textures inside the TXD) to whatever GTA3 vehicle you wish to replace. The COL file should work as is, I think (except for the renaming part, but that's simple enough). The carcols is relatively easy to replace - just find whichever vehicle you wish to replace in GTA3, and copy the values from the line included with the mod (NOT the deluxo part - that's substituted with the car name from GTA3 that you're replacing). The handling is similar to carcols, but a bit more complex. I can't really explain it any better than Cerbera has on his website. And finally, the default.ide. You shouldn't need to make any changes here for it to work I don't think - that means that you don't have to add the DELUXO line at all. About the only change you might make would be to the second last column (which is the wheel model ID#) - you'd probably want to make sure it said 160 (which is for sportscars - assuming this is a sportscar). If not, select another appropriate value from the descriptions in the GTA3 default.ide: # wheels160, wheel_sport, generic, 2, 20, 70, 0161, wheel_saloon, generic, 2, 20, 70, 0162, wheel_lightvan, generic, 2, 20, 70, 0163, wheel_classic, generic, 2, 20, 70, 0164, wheel_alloy, generic, 2, 20, 70, 0165, wheel_lighttruck, generic, 2, 20, 70, 0166, wheel_smallcar, generic, 2, 20, 70, 0 I wouldn't recommend trying to convert this car just yet - try and become more aware of some of the fundamental differences between GTA3 and VC first (by looking into some of the files you need to modify). The default.ide in VC, for example, has an extra column in the middle of the vehicles data for anims that wasn't in GTA3. Hope that helps you a bit . fasoma
First of all THANKS for this quick and detailed answer from "Ben". I thought that it would be an easy task to install a car as we do to install player skin but it is so much difficult for the beginers like me but you have explained the whole process very well and make it more easy so INSHALLAH I will try to do it. Once again I would like to THANKS BEN MY one more related question is How and where to place downloaded maps and weapons? I hope that you will again do me a favour Is there any website where it is already explained? if so please write it's address.
Ben
No worries . I'm not sure if there is a particular website where it's already explained - you could try searching via Google, or even using the Search function here at GTAF. Basically, it's just as simple as adding/replacing the appropriate files in gta3.img (in your GTA3\models or VC\models folder). That's all you have to do for the weapons (provided the DFF and TXD are named correctly). Maps may require you to edit an IPL (which contains coordinates for where a model is to be placed in-game) or IDE (which contains specific information on the model properties) (found in your GTA3\data\maps or VC\data\maps folder), but the readme should tell you what you need to add/edit. In fact, the readme included with the mod should have all instructions you need to install it. The best piece of advice I can give you though is to try it yourself first. If you succeed, well, that's great ! If not, then you can come here and get help - you'll be much more likely to get a response that will answer your questions. I've given you some basic background info - it's up to you to play around with it all now. Basically, DFFs and TXDs go in the IMG. And all files editable with Notepad are in the data folder - that's your DATs, CFGs, IDEs, etc. For some more specific information on the functions of file-types, check out Opius's guide .
