Flight and Cubans mission probs

Hi,

I'm new to the gaming world, so sorry if it seems I'm being stupid here. I've just been playing GTA VC on my HP laptop for a few weeks and I've finished the main story (done "Keep your friends close ... "). Had to do some of the missions many times to eventually succeed but some were easy, including "Keep your friends close ... " which I past second time, with the aid of the gattling gun. HOWEVER, I cannot finish 2 of the property missions (which are supposed to be easy) and start 2 of the side missions. For the Movie Studio I can't do the ***** Dodo mission - the seaplane is almost impossible to get airborne and if I can get it up there I can't make it desend without it just plummeting to earth. For Avery Carrington I can't do the RC helicopter Demolition Man mission - I have no forward control, the RC chopper can only go sideways, up or down. I've tried pressing every key on my laptop but nothing really helps, these 2 aircraft are near impossible to control. And I cannot start the Cubans missions (there is no pink marker in Cafe Robina) nor the Haitians mission. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Two of the most classic missions people have trouble with. As such, using the forum search along with adamcs' helpful search guide will yield many results.

One of the best things to do first off is to configure your controls to something you're comfortable with - many find the default controls, especially for helicopters, painful. Learn the controls and as always, practice makes perfect.

According to PatrickW's useful mission sequence chart, the Cuban Missions (beginning with Stunt Boat Challenge) aren't available until you've completed Demolition Man and subsequently, Two Bit Hit. So that explains the missing pink marker.

Finally, well done on finishing the game. smile.gif

Ok, first, thanks for the help. I understand the Cubans and Haitians missions won't start until I finish the Avery Carrington missions - that makes sense. However tips setting up the controls for the sea skimmer and RC helicopter correctly aren't any good for me. I only have limited control functions. I have already tried to customise the control functions but I can only change the funtions for 'on foot' and 'in car' - I assume 'in car' also work for aircraft. There are only controls for forward (W), backward (S) and left (A) and right (D) but I have noticed Q and E will rotate the tail of helicopters left or right. There are no other options and absolutely no other buttons effect the flight of aircraft - I've tried every button on my laptop whilst in flight. For the sea skimmer that means I can only go full throttle forward (W - which means normally forward on the sea or up if in the sky) or reverse (S - which normally means back if on the sea or plummet out of the sky if in the air) and left (A) and right (D). And for the RC helicopter I can only go up (W) down (S) lean left (A) and lean right (D) with Q and E spinning the tail in different directions. It has been suggested to me to set up the controls correctly for the sea skimmer, including the 'forward', 'backwards', 'up' and 'down' controls and for the RC helicopter 'gain' and 'lose' altitude plus 'forward' and 'backwards'. But I am missing some of these controls. They're not indicated on the customise control set up (which only shows the customise options for cars) and I tried all the keys on the computer whilst flying all the aircraft. How did you find these additional controls? Thank you for any help, it is appreciated.

From memory, you'll need the 'lean back' and 'lean forward' functions - typically used for when riding motorbikes. I believe the defaults are NUM6 and NUM9. 'Lean back' will help the Skimmer gain altitude, and 'lean forward' will begin a nosedive.

TBT I hear your pain!!!!!!!

I have a Compaq laptop and am having the exact same problem. As far as I can figure it laptops don't have the lean forward/back function (maybe because there is not the 2nd lot of numbers on the right side of a normal keyboard?). Unfortunately I have no idea how to fix this problem, which in turn makes these missions ABSOLUTELY imposisble to finish unless you can get around it AND (as far as I can tell) there is no way to change the control settings for the RC helicopter/plane because if you go through options/control set-up - it only gives you the option to change the controls for on foot and in car (with no helicopter/plane option).

If anyone knows how to fix this PLEASE let me know. ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!

For the lean back/forward controls that Fuzzy_Juzzy mentioned, I suggest using the up and down arrow keys

(Up for lean forward and down for lean back).

These can be configured in the pause screen.

(Esc > options > controls > configure. At least, I think thats how it works.)

If not, there's always the Save N Play thread.

I'm relatively certain you can redefine the keys for whatever you want (regardless of what it is now)..., but if not, is it possible to plug in an external keyboard (with NUM pad) into the lap top and boot it up this way? I imagine the NUM pad would have the best layout for flying so may be the easiest... alternately get an joypad for the game or an external NUM pad for your laptop.

If you don't want to do the above, Please take a screenie of your redefine key screen--- bring up that page, hit your print screen button and then exit out and paste into any graphic editing program-- save as jpeg and then upload to imageshack.us -- post a link here... so the helper can see what your current configuration is.

Flying controls are historically pretty hard on PC for most people.... the raider in Demolition man is very sensitive.

If you don't want to do all this, there is the Save N play as Omega posted-- or even a code tool that you can use to pass any mission in the game... (Timevault by Demarest)-- these are pinned in the cheats/tricks section which will allow you to pass any mission you want without doing it...

How it works....

simply rename or move you main.scm file--- move the modded main.scm file to its place. Fire up the game and enter the marker. Any mission marker you enter with the modded main.scm loaded will be instantly passed-- put your original main.scm file back in its place to restore normal game operation...

HTH...

@Spuds

I use a laptop, and I find that this configuration works great:

W - Up

S - Down

A - Left

D - Right

Q - Rotate left

E - Rotate right

Up arrow - Lean forward (works great for stoppies on motorcycles as well)

Down arrow - Lean back (wheelies!)

Left and Right arrows correspond to A and D key configurations.

Thanks everyone for all your helpful advice, it was really useful. But it turns out the solution to the problem was already staring me in the face. I didn't realise that the lean forward/back/left/right controls for the mororbike also applied to the helicopter and plane. Therefore I changed my lean forward and back motorbike controls to the letters U and J (but I'm sure you can make them whatever you want) and all of a sudden the helicopter and plane are now flyable!

So problem solved! Now onto the next mission.
