Lost-Fender
I've seen many members here use IRC... that, if I'm not mistaken, is used for chat. I think many here use Sysnode and GTAnet server? Now, I was wondering what software do I need for IRC? What's the best one you know or the ones you use? Justin
mIRC is popular. Alternatively, you can use GTANet's own java server (seems to be bung at the moment).
jarjar
I was referred to XChat by a member once, it isn't to bad. I use the Firefox IRC plugin these days though. I find it easier and fast that way. Speaking or which, how do you make your IRC name show up in your profile?

Lost-Fender
OK! I downloaded mIRC, and ChatZilla for Firefox as well, just in case... now what? Edited December 19, 2006 by Lost-Fender
Justin
OK! I downloaded mIRC, and ChatZilla for Firefox as well, just in case... now what? Run mIRC, and connect to a server. GTANet: irc.gtanet.com/gta sysnode: irc.sysnode.org/sysnode [EDIT] See the announcement topic for more information.
K^2
I use Trillian for MSN, AIM, ICQ, and IRC. I haven't used IRC in a while, but last time I tried, it ran just fine through Trillian. I have no idea what kind of features you can get with other IRC clients, but the main benefit of running Trillian is that you don't need to run any other clients, which means fewer icons, fewer processes, less memory used, and faster startup. Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.
Lost-Fender
I can't connect! Weird, everytime I try to connect, it says: "* Connecting to irc.gtanet.com (6667) - * Unable to connect to server (Software caused connection abort)" Any idea? Simon.
I can't connect! Weird, everytime I try to connect, it says: "* Connecting to irc.gtanet.com (6667) - * Unable to connect to server (Software caused connection abort)" Any idea? Check your firewall. You'll need to allow mirc.exe to access the internet (if you have a similar firewall to me) .
Luke
If connecting on port 6667 doesn't work - I suggest you also try using port 8067 (our alternative non-ssl port), because some ISPs have been known to block port 6667 for botnet reasons etc. The Java GTANet client doesn't work at the moment, and nor will the associate account page - neither of which I can fix until I get my FTP access back, which all staff bar Tank have been without for months now, hence lots of broken things. I've pretty much given up trying to get anything done until the pre-requisites are actually in place, which knowing GTANet management could be a few decades. I feel like bashing my head into a wall, but moving on... I suggest mIRC myself if you're running Windows, though it's been known to be a bit unstable in past recent releases. XChat is perfectly decent too, Chatzilla (the extension for firefox) isn't bad, but I wouldn't recommend it. Don't be put off by the fact mIRC and XChat can both be incredibly ugly, by default, there's ways and means of fixing this. adam broke it.
