Indie is the answer to life.

Not really.

While the "indie" scene is flourishing, it is really good to expand beyond just that one genre.

Indie isn't a genre. It's more just the concept of freedom and creativity, regardless of what the actual genre the music is. Yes, I'll agree that there might be the occasional mainstream artist worth listening to, but a large amount of it today isn't worth listening to..in that sense, indie is the answer.

Exactly. Listen to Immortal Technique. Underground Rap (Music in general) have better music. I believe in the early 90's is when mainstream music rocked all. But now it just isn't as good.

Like other dude said, it's not exactly a genre. I mean, I listen to loads of things spanning over many genres, but if we're talking modern day music, I think indie is the answer. Indie rock, indie pop, indie rap, etc.

I like to listen to artists who can do what they want how they want.

Personally I don't let channels, or other people influence what I like musically.

MTV is just a boring TV channel. That's it's own problem.

I stopped watching it in my freshman year of high school. It hasn't really changed my life, only further proving that MTV has lost it's power. I used to wait for hours to see my favorite music videos. When I was 7 years old, I waited long past my bed time to see the Red Hot Chili Pepper's video Give it Away(not that it was mind blowing, but I just hadn't seen the video yet).

just another thug

The genre indie usually alligns with independent rock acts, that was what I was responding to. Sorry for the confusion.

anthrax to name a few sad.gif (they're not THAT old)

Anthrax formed in 1982.

maybe i'm that old biggrin.gif *creaks*

still, MTV caters to the younger generation, and it's their generation who'll dictate the "in" thing~

although the shows are abit random and have little relation to music tounge.gif

shows like jack-ass or that punk'd would've been well suited for comedy central~

tho' beavis and butt-head fit well since you have a couple of airheads on a couch watching music vids tounge2.gif

there was also an article(time?) regarding MTV/viacom and it's corporate identity, something along the lines of "losing itself" and "Failing" the supposed target audience of "music goers" or something...

MTV is garbage. I don't want to get into the infinite reasons on why, since every other topic could argue this point, but instead will just say that more than half of its airtime it doesn't even air music.

One good thing that's come from MTV is Rob & Big. I don't know why, but for some reason I just find that show awesome to watch. biggrin.gif

Yeah, MTV is garbage everywhere, in Poland too.

It's like 70% of time is about sh*tty shows like "Date my mom", as someone said before, and the other 30% is about music, which also isn't good.

There is a program on Polish MTV, where the MTV hosts go to various schools (mostly high schools) and they check them out and give grades from 1 to 6 to teachers, classes, school architecture, even the toilets. Maybe the overall idea sounds cool and original, but in the practice it looks horrible. The show hosts look and act like retards, they don't listen to student's opinions and they even don't bother to speak clear enough for television standards.

There was a really cool show, called "Data Videos". Some really cool music videos were there with interesting informations about the video or the artist/band showing up. They took it off, replacing it with another sh*tty teen show. I barely watch MTV anymore.

Only good things I've seen come from MTV is Beavis & Butthead, Celebrity Deathmatch, and Jackass. And those aren't even music related besides Beavis n' Butthead because of the music videos on it. Also a few Unplugged concerts, other than that, nothing. FUSE is another channel here in the US that plays music. I'm pretty sure it does anyway I haven't watched it in a while, it might've turned into another MTV, but I think they got rid of all their metal shows and replaced it with emo or greenday things playing 24/7. But hell, atleast they play more music than MTV. I'd rather not watch either of those channels though, which is why I don't.

Word up

Last.fm gives me some whack ass sh*t at times.

Rob and Big, show is just f*cking funny.

MTV, the shows without music, like Next, Parental Control, f*cking funny.

TRL, complete garbage, takes them like an hour and thirty to show ten 4 second clips of a video, that's just straight bullsh*t.

VH1, they have good music, same for BETJ. GtaMaster, first time I seen the video for what they do, sh*t was on BETJ, sh*t was funny.

And f*ck BET, only good show they got is American Gangsta, sh*t is educational.

BET the degradation of the black community. f*ckin, f*ckin, whats their name.

Yeah, them. De La Soul, they were gonna put a video up on BET. Motherf*ckers from bet talking about it's too intelligent. Or some sh*t.

yeah indie, only reason its good is cause it is indie. minute they get signed to something major. Don't think Regina gon be singing about books, and "my har-har-har-heart"

jones calm the f*ck down with that Immortal Technique. underground rap isn't called technique.

It's all about Aesop Rock and Dudley Perkins and anyone associated with them.

The music and programmes like date my mom and next etc really suck but the programmes at night are quite good like South park, Strutter, Viva la Bam, Jackass etc

This should be called The Anti-MTV except Eden Harel? Does anybody remeber her? Back when MTV played music I had the pleasure of hitting puberty when she was in the height of her T.V. career

MTV sucks.

They cannot catorgorise the music properly. If your black, latin or a white guy with a baseball hat pop singer then your music is classified as "urban" wich is an attempt to fuse Hip Hop and R&B (two seprate geners).

Those stupid non music shows (jackass, beavis and buthead, next, date my mum) all suck.[/bestbumpeva]
