Scarface187
Today is the 5 year anniversary of the death of another influential musician. One of the main pioneers of the death metal genre and to some the innovator of death metal. Chuck Schuldiner of Death. On December 13, 2001 Chuck lost his life to a brain tumor all because of his lack of medical funds despite the metal community throwing many fundraisers, auctions and charity concerts to raise money. Chuck was and still remains a big influence on the death metal scene. Inspired by bands like Iron Maiden, Kiss, Slayer, Possessed and Metallica he would later for an almost revolutionary band of his own. Death is considered by some to be the first death metal band. In one interview, Chuck said he was flattered to be labeled the innovator of death metal but said in his opinion that he thought Venom were the first death metal band. In the same interview you also got to see what the man behind this band was like as well. Completely relaxed, and nice. Sporting a kitty shirt and one of the most brutal lisps in all of death metal. I can imagine how death metal fans must of reacted when they saw this and not some serious, miserable angry looking person. Death’s music started out in the same vein as other late 80’s/early 90’s death metal acts like Obituary and Pestilence. The music was fast and heavy along with Chuck’s brutal vocals and lyrics about blood, gore and horror movies (hence the debut album being called ‘Scream Bloody Gore’). After a couple albums however Death’s music took a bit change and for my mind it couldn’t of been more right. Chuck abandoned the gore themed lyrics and started writing more intelligent lyrics in songs like ‘Living Monstrosity’, ‘Suicide Machine’ and ‘A Lack of Comprehension’. The music itself had also gone through changes getting more progressive and technical as the years went by. Chuck also started another project a few years before he died called Control Denied. An album was released. A second album was in the works but was never released due to Schuldiner’s death. In my mind Chuck Schuldiner was a very underrated guitar player and just underrated in general. He still remains one of my influences both in the guitar and lyric department. The world hasn’t seen many if any people like him since his death. RIP. In honor of his memory I will be playing every Death album today back to back. Come in and pay respects. This post will now end with a clip of Crystal Mountain, live. Edited December 13, 2006 by Scarface187

8ballsoffire
it's a sad thing when a country will leave a man to die just so they don't have to pay medical taxes. especially such a talented individual. RIP
