RSer
I have them saved on a file type called a .rep. How do i open them and make them into something like a Windows Media Player compatible file? Thanks
jarjar
I don't think they are any type of format, they are only playable in-game I think.
Cowpat
Jarjar is right, replays (and cutscenes) use the game engine to render themselves. Roughly speaking, they are sort of like scripts which contain information about objects, their positions over time, animations, etc. These are then sent through the game engine in a timed sequence. jarjar
Oh really, I didn't know that. You would be right to, they would just contain data like where objects where, what animations to do, etc, etc, and then when replayed it just reads that information and render's the scene and plays it. Very interested, it would be cool to have small tool that could to that too, like a map editor that render's information from the files into a scene. Might be possible, but probably not worth it really, but we can dream .
Ben
MEd does that - it reads all the IPLs and IDEs and renders a scene for you . Also, to stay on-topic - if you want to view your replays in a program like WMP, you'd be best off to grab FRAPS (Google a link for it) and make your replays that way. The trial version only allows you to record 60 seconds at a time I think, and only at half the window size, but it's better than nothing.

Yeah, but I mean a program that render's a scene, actors, and what not. Everything that is defined in reply file script.

I'll refer you to Cowpats Post which outlines exactly what they are and how they work .

However, decoding the files and entire replay function could prove useful for modding endeavours. Extensive hacking and coding has the potential to impact on the replay function - this happened with LC, and although the problem has been fixed somewhat, it (the replay function) still doesn't operate as it should. Which means that anyone else playing around with the EXE could potentially screw up the replay function .
