It really contrasts from the usual war film, in the way that it doesn't glorify what the soldiers do in war. They're not all "brothers", and aren't all there to be heroes and fight for freedom. Very atmospheric climax, love the ending where they're singing, and it fades to black. Paint It Black during the end credits is genius. That's what made his character the best character in the movie. great movie, very different kind of war movie like Apocalypse Now and Platoon. One of my favorite war movies. Oh and if you want to get technical, Apocalypse Now was the movie that introduced us to R. Lee Ermey. He only had like a line, and was in a helicopter, but still. What are you two animals doing in my beloved head? Why is Private Pyle out of his bunk after lights out? Why is Private Pyle holding that weapon? Why are you not stomping Private Pyle's guts out?" Ben Posted December 14, 2006 Share Posted December 14, 2006 lol, all this throwing quotes around brings back some memories I had from seeing it . I found the suffering of Private Pyle particularly humorous, probably because at the time I saw Full Metal Jacket, I'd been watching Law and Order: Criminal Intent on TV for a fair while - it's ironic that he's such a hard-arse in Law and Order and such a loser in Full Metal Jacket . I think though that this is definitely one of Kubrick's better films - wow, that guy is whacked! Anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about, I'll just direct you to A Clockwork Orange .
