D-L
Hey, I wonder if you guys know how you get with (pc version) on the rooftop off Donald Love's Media building (the one you chat with Donald in his cutscénes). I know that it is to high for the Dodo, so that won't work. I hear you can get there with the flying tank. First use the flying tank code (chittychittybb) and then you must rotate the cannon so it is facing behind you. After doing this you shoot and then you wil fly. On the ps2 version this works great and its not to hard. But on the pc version it looks impossible. I just can't take attitude/height. On the ps2 version you use the left joystick to gain attitude/height, but how do you do this on the pc version? The controlls that were used for Dodo turrent up/down don't work. Who can tell me how you fly the tank on the pc version? And one last quistion: I've heard that there is a mod(ification) that places stairs next to Donald Love's building, so you can walk to the rooftop. Who knows where I can download that mod? Knowledge Novice
Yeah, the PS2 flying tank thing was pretty cool to see, but I've never tried it on the PC version so I can't help you there. The mod that you are searching for to reach the roof by using the stairs is called "donstairs", click to download here. After clicking on this link you should see a link like this [Down Load]. Click on it and it will give you the option to download the 'donstairs' mod. Follow the instructions in the ReadMe and you should be sky high in no time. The scenery is the same as from the cut scenes atop Donald Love's building, but (if I remeber correctly) the scenery has no collision file. By this I mean that you should probably walk right through most objects on top of the building. There didn't seem to be all that much to do up there, but it was kind of cool any way. Hope this helps you out. Good luck. P.S. The site that I gave the link to may not be the only site that hosts this mod. If you have any trouble downloading the mod there, you may want to use Google or simply use the GTA Forum Search Function (here) to look for: don, donstairs, Donald Love's Roof, or any combination of these. Good luck. Edited December 11, 2006 by Knowledge Novice
D-L
Thank you very much, Knowledge Novice! I will try this when I'm home. Hopefully someone else can give me tips about the flying tank in the pc version. I just liked the challenge and on the pc version you have the possibility to make screens as proof and that's why its cool.
Knowledge Novice
I totally agree. It's one thing to be able to do it, but it's a bit more satisfying to actually have proof of what you've done to show any skeptics out there. Good luck and if I remember or come across any info that you may find helpful I'll try to get back to you on it. And if you have any more questions just check back, I should be around. Also, if you come across anythng cool or any info on the 'flying tank' or the 'donstairs' mod I'd appreciate the info, even if it's something small. Any info is better than none. Thanks and good luck. Oh, yeah. It's been a while since I've even played GTA3 so I don't remember the buttons to gain altitude in the dodo, but have you tried pointing the canon behind you, firing repeatedly until you gain some speed and then use the Gas/Brake buttons to raise/ lower you altitude? This may not work, but just in case try to gain a god bit of speed before trying to lift off of the ground. Knowledge Novice
In the meantime here are a few pics I took with the 'donstairs' mod installed. Donald's place with out stairs. Donald's place with stairs (approx. 80+ flights) Roof scenery Donald's treadmill (seen in one of the cuscenes in game) Nothing fantastic, but probably worth the time if you've never been up there. Oh, and in case you didn't realise, you WILL be wasted if you leave without using the stairs. (Kersplat!) Lucky Liberty has such great hospitals, huh. See ya. D-L
I can't see your pictures, Knowledge Novice. Now I've been there it get pretty boring , but like you say: You must do this once, in case you never been there before. Now I hope I can get there with a flying tank. So, if someone have tips about the flying tank (IN THE PC VERSION), they are welcome!

Demarest
Here's a pic from my Neo v5 mod. IIRC, users of Neo v4 can get up there too. Anybody with the Admin Console can get up there. If you're playing GTA:LC, you can use a heli to get up there. Etc, etc. And yes, you can get up there with a Dodo. Lack of patience/knowhow to see it through does NOT mean it's not possible
Scotty/chino
Nice one, never actually had a good look at it apart from the cutscenes
stef_92
I got myself the donstairs mod a long time ago! But there's no collision file and Claude just move through the objects there ! I like to jump from the top
Demarest
That would mean that you installed the model and not the collision data.
stef_92
No! I installed it! But it's only for the stairs! There's no collision data for the objects at the roof.
Demarest
Ah, you weren't clear on that. That is not news though. Much of Kenji's roof isn't solid either.
Lymphoid
Ah, you weren't clear on that. That is not news though. Much of Kenji's roof isn't solid either. That concept is so strange for me. I used to map for half-life games and walls are solid by default, and to make something non-solid you have to make it an entity called illusionary. Zeekard
Yeah, it's slightly difficult or impossible to get higher, dive, or land whenever we want to. I've made a introduction video how to fly by tank in PC version. Taking off is very easy but steering could be more difficult. Check this out: MOVIE
cant remember
Ah, you weren't clear on that. That is not news though. Much of Kenji's roof isn't solid either. That concept is so strange for me. I used to map for half-life games and walls are solid by default, and to make something non-solid you have to make it an entity called illusionary. This is easier to achieve with Half-Life because Half-Life maps aren't streamed. So it is generally easier and better to tie the collision box simply to the 3D model automatically. Thankfully the engine does this for us too even. In GTA the map is streamed as you move around, and you would constantly fall into the void if you drove over a section that hadn't loaded yet (happened occasionally to me that I was driving on an invisible road in fast cars). So there it's a better idea to load the collision boxes and graphic models seperately, since they don't take up that much resources anyway, nothing compared to the graphic models. Most driving games that involved an open city I've played had a few forgotten non-solid parts that allowed you to fall through a building into some sort of void. (Midtwn Madness 1 & 2, Driver, GTA3 and up) I don't recall any first person shooter that allowed you to fall through the void, unless noclip enabled (again I haven't played every game in the world, far from) And yes I agree, it is a strange concept when you're not used to it. Lymphoid
i'm glad you see where im coming from. in HL i would make a floor, and bam, you can stand on it. I would have to go out of my way to make it non solid.
Eternal War0
So it is possible (and probably more rewarding) to get up there with the dodo? I love flying the dodo and I like trying to get to new places but I don't like Staunton... Half the buildings are solid and half aren't which causes a crash 90% of the time
stef_92
Yes! Thats the worst in the game! The building collisions and rooftops! If you have VC and you download LC mod for it you will se that the rooftops and the collisions of the buildings are fixed!
