San Andreas crashes after credits

Hello, I just registered to post this, so don't be too harsh on me. wink.gif

I installed San Andreas on my PC, and it works fine. I installed it on my laptop, it installs fine, but after the credits, it shows the picture of "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" and then crashes.

I have Windows XP with SP2,

An SiS M661MX GFX card with 64 mb memory(I'm thinking this is the problem here)

An Intel Celeron processor with 1.50 GHz,

And 448 mb of RAM.

Also, I was able to run HL2 on this laptop with minor crashes...If anyone could help, that would be great...Oh yeah, Vice City runs fine on this setup, no worries. wink.gif

i have the exact same problem. tried everything. really distressing...

Running on:

XP SP2

64MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9000

Intel Pentium M 1.6GHz

768MB of RAM

It's really annoying, isn't it? There's no error message, so you don't know what's wrong. I've tried everything. I've updated my sound drivers, my video drivers, lowered my sound acceleration, ran in Windows 98/ME edition, etc.

Sorry, I just find it annoying when I see other posts with 20 replies in one day in the same forum, yet I had to lower my standards and double-post just to get some attention. Oh well. I just want to play this magnificent game on my laptop. suicidal.gif

Normally laptops aren't suited for games due to their power management schemes....

Also ur graphics card doesn't impress me much......

Why dont u try playing San Andreas while laptop is plugged in and not on battery......

It might work out for u..........

Yeah, I know my graphics card is sh*t, but hey, it could run Half-Life 2 on all medium settings. I don't know, I'll try.

EDIT: It didn't work, BUT it said in the FAQ that I need Administative Priveliges. I'm on a laptop with three users...How can I find out if I'm an admin?

Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts. In here it will say whether a user is a limited user or an administrator under their username.

Nope, it says that my account is an administrator. And I tried it on my dad's and it did the same thing.

I don't know, I feel like giving up, but I want San Andreas on the go. sad.gif

There should be something you can do, are there newer drivers for anything in the system?

I got San Andreas to run on a laptop with a Celeron M 1.3 GHz with 256 MB of RAM and 64 MB of that taken for the Intel 900 graphics thing. It was too slow to play but it didn't crash.

I think your graphics card has to be at least 128mb plus you have to have at least directx9 for it to run smoothly, if you don't have directx9, you can download it from the installation disc. hope this helps. this is according to the book that comes with the game.

I keep getting the same problem. It loads fine, goes through the intro and then crashes back to the desktop with an error message.

Windows XP, SP2

GeForce 6600 GT AGP 128 MB

512 MB RAM

Pentium IV 2.61 GHz

I've tried switching compatibility modes, I've checked that all of my drivers are up to date, I've tried lowering my audio acceleration, but nothing works. Any other ideas?

Anyone who has the problem that I did, try what he said. It worked great for me! Bit FPS laggy, but meh, who cares? I lowered my settings(Visual FX quality low, no draw distance) and it's alright. Thanks heaps.

Tried the 3DAnalyzer fix and it didn't work for me. Then again, I didn't really expect it to as I'm not using an on-board video card and it fits well within the requirements.

For me the worst part of this (ok, second-worst after not being able to play the damn game) is that I have no idea what's causing it so I don't really know what I can try to do to fix it. Even analyzing the output from the crash hasn't really been able to help much.

It really speaks poorly of Rockstar and Take-Two that there are this many people with such obvious problems of the exact same nature with their product and yet they aren't addressing it, haven't patched it aside from the Hot Coffee fiasco (well, yes, they introduced some bugfixes then as well, but let's not kid ourselves as to why the patch came out at all), and seem to be totally indifferent to our suffering.

Well Belgand, I don't know how to fix your problem, but you tried delete gta_sa.set file? the win98 compatibility, and if you have windowblinds installed, try uninstall it, see more details and fixes in the Googlesta topic
