How to drop an item or weapon?

I am having a problem on the casino heist mission. I can't seem to pick up the parachute to drop from the top of the hotel. I have tried to get the parachute from another location but cannot. I don't see a button to drop anything. Not sure why I can't pick it up. Full inventory mabey?? I have also tried using a weapon untill ammo is gone, to free up a spot in inventory, but that hasen't worked either. Thanks for any help.

The parachute goes in the same inventory slot as the goggles you get in this mission. You can't drop an item but you can replace it with something else, on the PC version you can do this by pressing TAB while standing on the item pickup. I can't seem to find what the controls for the PS2 and XBox are, but someone else might post what it is soon. It tells you which button it is the first few times you do it.

press L1 on ps2 to replace your stuff with whatever your standing on. dosn't it tell you this at the beggining of the game?
