What was so bad about it ?

Few mock-ups before the logo was decided.

This. I like this. A lot.

Just got my mitts on photoshop again after a good 10 months of not having access to it. I'm going less down the vectoring path that I used to do a lot of and more towards actually useful stuff in photo manipulation. Anyone who's following the Olympics topic in Sports Disc. might have seen my first piece.

I posted this photo of Jess Ennis celebrating on "Super Saturday", and Gareth Croke said something about how it would be a great photo if the cameraman wasn't there.

There are a number of noticable inconsistencies in the crowd and the markings on the track, but if you just look at it by itself (i.e. not holding it up next to the original) I think it looks pretty slick. Also, I couldn't be arsed building most of a camp chair via clone-stamping/sampling so I just got rid of it and put a banner in its place.

Then today I was inspired by my current desktop wallpaper. Obviously, a lot of photography in the days of Audrey Hepburn's early career was still being done in B&W, so the original colours have been lost, I've got another version where Hepburn's skin and hair has been colourised, but the artist who did the colourisation didn't want to go any further. I, however, did:

Colourisation (again, linked):

I'm pretty pleased with it. The city could have done with a bit more detail and variety in its palette, but it was the last thing I did and honestly I can't be arsed to do any more at the moment. For a first effort at colouring a B&W photo, I think I did alright, but if anyone has something to point out or any tips I'd love to hear them.

Oh and I fiddled with the brightness and contrast on this version, too.

E: Oh, and just as a note, I'm pretty sure the original photo wasn't a very rectangular ratio, so all that black on the right was just an easy way of concealing that. I didn't wuss out and black out something tricky haha.

Hey man, that "NOW" poster ever get finished? smile.gif

Rob: Thanks man, it never got used but I was really happy with that one. How long did it take you to colour that Audrey Hepbun image? Looks real vintage.

Not too long. I did it over ~3 hours but that was broken up quite a bit with dinner and watching the Olympics and stuff. I'd say it was probably 50mins-1hr of actual working on it. In truth there's only about 17 or 18 different shades in there, I really should go back and do a few more skin tones (a bit of red blush around the cheekbones for example). The part that took the longest wasn't actually any of the "painting" of areas to colour, but finding the right colour for the coat. I'm still not sure if I should have made it closer to a camel colour or not ha.

The coloring work is remarkable, but I rather enjoy the b&w photo better. Also, very nice work with the edit of the cameraman, look good and nearly professional from the untrained eye. wink.gif Keep up the good work and glad you're back into Photoshop!

@DeeperRed

Nothing, was just having a sucky day. I suppose I don't like having a boss. I like working freelance so it was kind of out of my comfort zone, but the money is good, so I'll stick with it.

@Whiskey

It's still being discussed man. Can't do anything until info is cleared. Once you've got your card working send me your Paypal details and I'll sort out your cash.

For anyone wondering me and Whiskey are currently collaborating on some commissioned work after I spotted his talent here, how fun.

That's pretty damn beautiful, one thing's that bothering me, is how the different 3D anges are positioned. The view seems to be from up to down in the top, main text.

But on the subtext, it seems to be from down to up.

Not sure if you know what I mean, hopefully you do, if not, I'll try to elaborate more. blush.gif

@Blitz - Totally know what you mean and agree. The 3d was created using different techniques for all 3 because of the resources I was using, resulting in what you see. I couldn't spend too long on it either because of a low commissioning price. It's not greatly noticeable or off putting when the untrained eye reads, so it's OK.

@DeeperRed - I piss about on Photoshop until it looks good. I have done from the age of 12-14, i'm now 22. I have always done it and always will. Obviously for things other than event art, other programs are required.

Just build a folio and send it to people. Once you do a couple for people, they'll thank you, someone will see the credit and ask you to do it for them if they like it, it becomes a nice circle. Don't be afraid to ask people if you can do work for their event your doing as well, this brings a lower pay rate though so be careful, don't seem like you need it that much, do it as more of a recommendation that they would benefit from your services.

Thats exactly my technique man. Yeah I am defiantly just going to have to put myself out there. Thanks for the info man, much appreciated.

It's no problem. Whatever your mates are using as a social networking tool, set yourself up on there with a page with your work. They'll help you spread it around and you can build a nice following for friends of friends to see.

My god Dystopia you are talented as f*ck! You have to share more, your work is too good to be encased from this forums.

As for Whiskey what the can I say, fantastic work as usual.

I haven't had a lot of free time for Photoshop work and all so I might whip up something and see if I still got something in me. All this art you guys are posting are making me feel left out.

I think it looks really good. I like the font and the design you used. However I think it would look better if, like DeeperRed mentioned, the hat looked more like it was actually sitting on the letters. Looking at it now the hat is in front of the text, but with some masks you should be able to make it look as if the letters are actually going inside the hat. This will give it a more realistic and 3D perspective.

Just a suggestion. To any normal person it is perfectly acceptable though. icon14.gif

@ElMafias - Logo looks awesome, one thing I want to see is the L go into the hat rather than underneath the dark shade, it would add depth so much more. Just select the shape of the L and hit delete on the hat layer. Duplicate the hat layer before doing so and keep the original just in case you mess up. If the shadow messes up when you delete make a new layer and merge it with the hat layer, that way it wont get in the way. I'm sure you know all of this already but just incase you dont... Try out the L going into the hat.

@Mockage - Ok man why not. Here's something I posted yesterday to keep clientel and followers up to date with what I've been doing.

So I've been working on my cv/resume:

I feel I need some help with the text on the right. What could make it better and should I add or remove anything? I was thinking of adding the objective but I've heard that since it'll be on my standard resume it isn't necessary. Also any other tips on how I could improve this piece are welcomed as well.

(and the link on there needs to be updated with more work, I've just been lazy)

Most of it, yes. I used 5 stock images mostly for the background and the brick wall texture. The rest was done in Illustrator for the base of the buildings, then Photoshop for the details and InDesign for some of the text.

Inky, that CV is looking slick as f*ck. Love the CG, cartoon style.

To continue the trend, here is a blast at my new cv after scraping the old one.
