Check out Stones Throw's sub label Now-Again records. They re-release old deep funk and have put out some great compilations like Cold Heat Vol. 1 and Texas Funk: Black Gold from the Lone Star State. I guess when you say the word "Funk", James Brown and George Clinton are the first words that come to your head, everybody knows about the godfathers. So, what I tried to make is a list with less known stuff. I'll definetly check out some Now Again's stuff, thank you for the reccomendation. I think The Meters should be added to that list. Sissy Strut is an essential song. Also, I think I might be going to see Quantic very soon. Awyeah. By the way, it might be cool to have a single-post pinned topic for a few different genres of music and have a collection of 20 or so essential releases and where to start. Thanks for the suggestions, Mullen. I downloaded some of that Superfly Soul sound; it's pretty great. I know I'm not the only one who has at one point or another wanted to get into a certain genre, but with no clue on where to start. I don't know if it counts, but it's mainly stuff like Medeski, Martin and Wood or John Scofield's 'A Go Go' album. So is Les Claypool's side project he had, Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains. Also theres George Clinton. I like a lot of his stuff. Oh and Bounce FM was the best station on San Andreas. The Revolution Was Postponed Because Of Rain is my favorite track on here; though, I'm really blown away by the entire album. I also found In The Buzzbag, which is a solid record.
