Pranjal
Nintendo Co. Ltd. sold 600,000 units of its new Wii video game console in the first eight days after its release in the Americas, as the company vies with rivals Sony Corp. and Microsoft Corp. for gamers' hearts and wallets. Including sales of accessories and games, Nintendo's Wii-related revenue had hit $190 million (97 million pounds) since the machine's November 19 release, the company said. At $250, the Wii costs half as much as the cheapest version of Sony's PlayStation 3 console, which went on sale in the United States two days before the Wii hit the market. Many fans of both systems lined up at retailers hours or even days in advance of the launches to guarantee they were among the first to claim ownership of the highly anticipated machines. The consoles are also being hawked on Internet auction sites such as eBay for several times their retail price tag. "We've shipped retailers several times the amount of hardware the other company was able to deliver for its launch around the same time -- and we still sold out," Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said in a statement. Sony has not revealed how many PlayStation 3 consoles it has sold in North America so far, but has said it aims to have shipped 1 million units by the end of the year. Microsoft has shipped more than 6 million of its Xbox 360 since launching it in November 2005 Link: 600000 Wiis already sold
Jordan
450,000 copies of Zelda were sold, meaning that 75% of those that bought a Wii last week bought Zelda, including me and my brother.

Pranjal
Taking into consideration the sales report, I can say that Nintendo has certainly gained an upper hand over Sony. Nintendo has already sold 0.6 million Wiis while Sony aims to sell 1 million PS3s only by the year end.
Cran.
Well that's a given that Nintendo would have sold a lot more than microsoft. It's a cheap, innovative and wonderful mainstream system. PS3 is aimed at more hardcore gamers. Nintendo will win sales wise this generation.
Jake
Yeah Nintendo is gonna do good this time around, a lot better than they did with the Gamecube I'm sure. 360 and Wii ftw.
Brutuz
We should have a Official Prediction of the Future of Games topic where you can guess who's say staying for the next gen games, or who's lost the point and got almost no sales (Gee I'm sounding like Big Brother.....) Anyways I think the Wii will kick butt cause its cheaper, then when HDTV goes cheaper the PS3 and 360 will fight back cause the Wii don't have HD, Personally I think that the PS3 will win overall, because it will probably get some [email protected] games and come down in price, but For the PS4, 540 and w/e Nintendo name their next console The PS4 will be cheaper, while the 540 might have Windows support and the w/e Nintendo name their next console will still be technically behind, but be up to date with HDTV, BD or HD-DVD whichever wins. Mark
Experts expected the Wii to do well. Hell, a next gen console on the cheap? Perfect Xmas gift! Still, once Sony and Microsoft come down in price, they're gonna do a fair bit better. HDTV is gonna kick off big time this generation, so it's not gonna be long. I think the Wii will just be a quite common novelty console that'll wear off, especially if Nintendo don't keep pumping out innovative games. Only so much mario tennis one guy can take.
