Saggy
All right, so I've got a mid-sized PC case here, and the cooling system is pretty simple. I have a 80mm Vantec Tornado (115 cfm, 54 dB, ~5000 RPM) as my exhaust and heatsink fan, both are running on a variable speed controller at about 3000 RPM. In addition to this, the case came with a stock Antec 80mm fan, I have no clue what it is rated for, but I would assume something like 34 cfm. The cooling is adequate enough, I suppose. Usually after a few hours operation, the CPU averages at about 37c/98f. I don't overclock or anything of the sort, but I have two problems with my current cooling. The first problem, is that with SO much airflow, my computer has become a space heater, for the most part. In addition of the hot case and CPU, I've also got the power-supply blasting out heat at temperatures I haven't yet measured, but it usually gets my room quite hot. The other problem, is of course the noise. Vantec Tornadoes are noisy little buggers, and I'm sure there's probably something I could replace them with and still maintain adequate cooling. As for the processor itself, it's just a modest Athlon XP 2600+, running at 1.9 Ghz. I currently have a Thermaltake SK-800, but I'm considering a different heatsink because this one is a pain in the ass to mount. I have an SLK-900, which is basically just a behemoth of copper, but it doesn't offer much cooling difference, and I wonder if a specially designed fan-heatsink combo would work better for me. Brutuz
Well, I'm using the Same CPU as you except it seems to be underclocked to 1.1Ghz with my new motherboard, but anyway My position is pretty much the same, except My computer has the stock fan on the CPU and nothing on the case but I'd say shop around for cheap fans or just look around at some type of PC dedicated forums and see what other people are using and see its price and everything, I might keep an eye on the topic, it might help me too
vALKYR
Aerocool JetEngine Engine Cases provide the best Airflow within your case. Try ArcticCooling or Zalman Cooling for the best temperatures. Not sure whether or not they have Coolers for Athlon XP CPU's.
