Mr. Hym.
I'm trying to fix my little sister's mp3 player. It plays the songs that are already on it just fine, but my computer doesn't recognize it. It says that it is not formatted, but formatting it will remove all of the files on her player, and I can't open the folder which contains them to back up the files on it. Will formatting it remove the files on it besides the songs, and will formatting even help?
gRiM-reapa
Formatting will wipe the whole lot clean. It might help but if the songs are legally owned on CD you can just put them back on.
Mr. Hym.
I don't care about the songs, but there are other files on it that are required for the player to work.
Spenc938
Some MP3 players have a utility that formats then automatically reinstalls the firmware. If your particular model doesn't you should be able to format it and then perform a firmware upgrade. (downloadable from the manufacturers site) By the way, who makes it? Maybe I could check for you. Mr. Hym.
Here it is. So a firmware download will make the player work after the core files have been deleted?
_-playero-_
http://www.memcorpinc.com/html/downloads.php Right on this site you can download the software driver, firmware and manual. I took a look at it, and according to the manual you can format the unit from My Computer. Just open My Computer, right click on "removable drive", format. Then be sure to select FAT in file system. Finally click start. You can also update the firmware, but I would try reseting the unit first. To do so, take the battery out for a few seconds, then reinsert, according to the manual.
