Brutuz
I've got an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ which usually runs at 1.9Ghz, but when I changed my motherboard from a ASUS A7V400 MX but after the IDE controller died I got a ASUS A7S8X MX Now its running at 1.16Ghz, I think it has something to do with the voltages, I upgraded from a bog standed 350w PSU to a new 400w P4 edition PSU and no difference, heres a screenshot from CPUZ
Cran.
Voltage or CPU multiplier is probably wrong. Hmm
Brutuz
Do you know what I can do to fix it? If I have to I'll save up for a new motherboard and CPU.
Cran.
Just reset it in the BIOS? Wait for a second opinion though.
Brutuz
I'll check that out and edit my post later. EDIT: Nope nothing in the BIOS to change voltage or CPU speed, maybe I should look and see if I have to change any jumpers on the motherboard? Fozzy Fozborne
Tried upgrading your BIOS? If not, then go Here for Asus's guide on how to upgrade it. And here is the BIOS you need. BIOS If that doesn't work, whenever you turn on your computer, and it says "press Delete to enter setup" press delete. Your BIOS should come up, press the right arrow key to go to the "Advanced" tab. Highlight "CPU information" then press enter. It should say "AMD Athlon XP, 1.9 GHz, and 512 K". If it doesn't, go back to the advanced menu, then highlight "Frequency Control" then press enter. Now, I'm guessing that value should be "166" and it's set to "100" which would result in a 40% drop in CPU power. That is why instead of 1.9 GHz, you're getting 1.14-1.2 Ghz. That error should be corrected when you update your BIOS, but if it doesn't, post again and I'll show you how to change it to 166.
Brutuz
Nope upgrading the BIOS didn't work, what is the other thing your were saying?
Fozzy Fozborne
Alright, on your CPU-Z screenshot, see where it says "Bus Speed - 99 MHz" that should be set to 166 MHz. To get your GHz number, you multiply your bus speed by your multiplier. On yours right now, it's set to 99, if you mulitply 99 by 11.5, you get 1.1385 Ghz. If you change it to 166, 166 times 11.5 is 1.909 GHz, which is what you want. I'm not sure how to do this on your motherboard. Call Asus and ask them "How do I change my bus speed from 100 MHz to 166MHz on my Asus A7S8X MX?" They'll walk you through it.
3niX
Well... I suggest checking the manual that came with the motherboard (assuming you got it and still have it). Its definitley an issue with the "Bus speed". You need to set it from BIOS.
Lawley
You possibly have Cool'n'Quiet enabled im not sure if its on that model of cpu, but cool'n'quiet halfs the speed of your processor when your not doing anything, thus making at cooler, try using a cpu intensive program then checking your speed. Some motherboards support it some dont Edited December 1, 2006 by Lawley

Brutuz
Well, Here is a list of its special features, I don't think I have Cool and Quiet ASUS EZ Flash ASUS CrashFree BIOS ASUS C.O.P (CPU Overheating Protection) ASUS MyLogo I've also checked the Manuel and I've got the Motherboard Jumpers set to 166mhz I don't know whats up here
Brutuz
I managed to fix it, I set the jumpers to what the Manuel says is 100Mhz and it worked, me thinks the manuel is stupid
