MrBehemoth
Very strange. I don't understand why it works for one person and not another.
RainingAcid
Try re-zipping it.
MrBehemoth
Thank you for your patience, folks. I think it's fixed. It did crash on loading when you install from the zip, even though the zip contains the same files. (My bad. Sorry for not believing you! ) It took me a long time to see this happen for myself as I had to actually remove my mods, re-install the game and then install skytrack. This lead me to think that the problem is to do with another file that I hadn't taken into consideration / don't know about and cleaning the map first seems to fix this. I have also re-zipped, just in case, and updated the readme. So, if you... 1) Download the updated zip. 2) Back up your files. 3) Reinstall the game. 4) Run Steve M's map cleaner. 5) Unzip/replace the files. ...then it should work. Once I had reinstalled the game, the only way the mod would work was if I cleaned the map first. I don't know why this is. Any ideas, anyone? (It's not IDE numbers, they're all unique.) Hope this helps. Thanks again for your patience. Please try one more time!
-/TNT\-
It is always a simple thing. I forgot to mention that you have to use the Map Cleaner. It makes space for the new map. I always forget the bloody thing!
grovespaz
Perhaps its because SA only accepts a few new items on a unmodified game before it crashes? Good job btw, like the enormous track!
TonyResta
What happens if i use the map cleaner, what does it erase, will i lose any of my mods?
MrBehemoth
It clears away the whole map and removes unneeded files from the map archives. So any map mods you've installed/made will be removed. But all you need to do is back them up and replace them later. Grovespaz - I think you're right. And I should have known better. Will it erase texture mods such as roads and trees? 2. By erase the whole map do you mean make the land all water? 3. Will it effect ma gameplay thanks for your time
MrBehemoth
1) Steve-M, Map Cleaner Read-me:... What it does ~~~~~~~~~~~~ First, the tool removes all IPL, IMG, SPLASH and the selected IDE entries from your gta.dat. Second, it will go through the IDE list and scan all UNSELECTED .ide files from your list (including peds, vehicles and weapons) and mark the used txd, dff, ifp and col files in the img archive as needed. It will do the same to the radar*.txd and nodes*.dat files. In step three, it goes through the list again, but this time scan all SELECTED .ide files, and delete all accompanying txd, dff, ifp and col files from the img, EXCEPT those that were marked as needed in step two. This should avoid shared files to be deleted (like generic texture packs and such). Also, all .ipl files are deleted from the archive. After that, the tool will create a file named clean.log in your SA directory, which contains a list off all remaining files in the img that were neither deleted nor marked as needed. So theoretically these files should be unused, but not all of them are. There are a lot of ifp files left, also all the actors that appear during the missions (no peds though, so they could be deleted as well), and also the special body textures for some of the cars. Based on that list, you can try to delete files and test if it works. When it's done, it asks you if you want to apply the changes. If you choose yes, the gta.dat will be written, the img file list updated, and the img_int.img deleted. If you choose no, absolutely no changes will be done to your installation, only the clean.log is created. ... So yes. 2) Yup. 3) Not sure what you mean. If you mean will it affect saved games, then yes and no. You won't be able to play a saved San Andreas game while the map is clean or while skytrack is installed. But, if you back up all your files, once you restore them you will be able to load up a game and carry on from where you left off, including any mods. The easiest way to back up is just copy your whole San Andreas folder, which might take a minute or two, but, when you're done and you want to uninstall skytrack, you just move the copied folder back and over-write the mod. It's inconvenient, I know, but that's just the way the engine works. If R* hadn't put a memory lock on the game then we would be able to add the map into the San Andreas map, on an island for example. But because the San Andreas world is full, so to speak, skytrack replaces the whole map. Off-topic: I used to mod Half-Life... those were the days. Everything was so much easier! This is all Jack Thompson's fault.
