Wolf68k
Specs first.... CPU: AMD XP 3200+ RAM: 1GB (2x512MB) GFX: originally: FX 5700LE 256MB, later: 6800GS 256MB AGP, now: FX 5700LE 256MB (same as original) Ok here's the story. When i started off with GTASA I had an AMD XP 1800+ and the FX 5700LE and had no problems. The beginning of Jan. '06 I got the 6800GS AGP. I know that I delete the set file but I don't think I reinstalled the game, I might have I just don't remember. Other wise no problems. 6800GS died on me a few days ago. So I put the 5700LE back in and now the game won't start up. With the 5700LE the last set of drivers I used was the 77.77. With the 6800GS it was 84.21. When the 6800GS died and I put the 5700LE back I started in SafeMode and reinstalled the 84.21 on top of what was already there just so they could reconfigure for the 5700LE. Game didn't work...and yes I had already deleted the set file, hell I even just renamed the User Files folder so the game would create a new one. I reinstalled the game, still nothing. Back into SafeMode and using Driver Cleaner Pro to remove all traces. For whatever reason the 77.77 wouldn't install for the card, same for the 71.89, yet the 66.93 would install just fine. SA still won't run with these drivers. Install the 77.77 over the 66.93 just like I had done back in the day I originally got those drivers and had been able to run the game, still SA doesn't run. I tried another install of SA with the 77.77 installed since the last install was with the 84.21 overinstall, still nothing. I even just now tried installing SA to a different drive; originally I had it on my D and this time I tried the C and obviously still nothing. Also between installing it on the C and the reinstall with the fresh 77.77 drivers I also disconnected my 2nd monitor which I didn't have originally with the 5700LE (yet was working fine with the 6800GS) and ...well do I have to say what happened. The only other change between the 6800GS and going back to the 5700LE is the fact that some other games I've installed have also forced an update of DX9.0c the latest being Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07. I didn't try SA after installing TW07 so I don't know for sure if that had any effect on it. Anyone else got any bright ideas as to what to try? Oh and here is the error message minus the finer details page: //edit Turns out while I was trying to figure out what was wrong with myself, before I figured it to be the 6800GS, I was stupid enough to try the "Last Known Good Configuration" and that reverted DX back to 8.1 It wasn't until I tried BF2 and got and error message about it requiring DX9.0c that I then checked dxdiag and found that it was 8.1 instead of 9.0c. Freakin R* why can't you be as smart as EA with your error messages? Edited November 22, 2006 by Wolf68k
HerrieM
First of all, Sorry to hear you have a problem. I don't have a solution for you I can however say that it has nothing to do with the DirectX 9.0c I have that installed as well, just like TW07. I have search on the web and there are more people with that problem. Only none of them have a solution or it is in a language i can't read (french, russian, japanese). I hope that someone will come with an answer for you. Edit: Aha, so if you reïnstal directX9.0C it will work again?
