~Giggle~
So I opened up my PC tonight and I was looking at the RAM chips to try and tell what type they are. I am kind of unsure, all I can tell is the 133MHz bit and also that they are 128mb each. (2 slots used out of three). Anyway here is the label so hopefully you can guys can help me on what type of RAM I need: MT8LSDT1664AG-133B1 PC133U-333-542-A GB CCTA5RB009 200130 128MB. SYNCH, 133MHz, CL3 I was thinking of upgrading it but I don't have a clue what type I need. I am also unsure of what the maximum amount I can have is. All I know is it is a Gateway computer. Also, I was thinking of taking basically updating everything else in the computer. New motherboard, hard drives etc. I seem to remember hearing somewhere that you can buy motherboards with the processor and graphics card built-in to save hassle of trying to find compatible ones, is this true? Also, is this more sensible than buying a brand new cheap computer? I certainly know it will be cheaper and I can get better parts. Thanks for any help. |Zephyr|
Don't upgrade your ram if your going to upgrade you system. It's a waste of time. You should buy all the parts and then build it yourself if you can (or know someone that can. Also there are plenty of guides out there plus we are happy to help here at the forums ) because it will, as you said, save you money and you will get better performance. As tornado said what country are you in and what will your budget be? If you supply us with this most people here will put a system together for you. Wouldn't hurt telling us what you will require this computer for (web browsing, gaming etc)
~Giggle~
I'm in the UK. I'm no gamer so I don't really need an uber fancy graphics card but I would like a decent enough one to do high quality video and graphics. So I just need it for the web and media needs. But I also want high performance doing those things. If that makes sense.... The budget I am not sure of yet. Maybe around £300ish.. Thanks for replying. I'm also aware stuff like the PSU and sound card can be re-used so hopefully that can keep the cost down a bit.
