I heard that the playstation 3 has backward compatiblity problems with several ps2 games. I was just wondering if this effects San Andreas or any of the gta series. Any info is greatly appreciated. Just annoyed they always get everything first. It is rather understandable, and unfair. Scotland give the world so much ... Franz Ferdinand, The Fratellies, Grand Theft Auto... Ill stop there but you get the point. Yet we have to to wait till March to get the PS3, and even at that it will be delayed again. Oh yeah, BTW, the PS3 is backwards compatible with both PS1 and PS2, but you can download the PS1 gmaes straight onto your hard drive, for a small cost ( or so I have heard anyway). I dont think it counts as racism, theyre shouldn't be any problems releaseing a new machine worlwide simultaneously, so if anything us Brits are being discriminated against, but enough of that... Although at the moment aprox 200 out of the 8000 ps2 games will experience some problems (such as freezes, glitches, etc) Sony is currently working on fixing the games that do have these problems (with firmware updates). Soo eventually every ps1 and ps2 game will be backwards compatible. Anyways it looks as though there arent any major problems with San Andreas or other gta games on the ps3. Here's the link http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus. Just type in the ps1 or ps2 game and click search. It will check it's compatibility with the ps3. Bear in mind that the same thing happened when the PS2 came out. But Sony fixed it up and I'm sure they'll do it again. I suppose that's one advantage of having to wait a bit longer than everyone else for the PS3 to come out. It give them more time to fix bugs and whatnot. I am just saying that since sony said it would have backwards compatibilty and the fact that for what ever reasons they want to say they kept the release of the ps3 back for near a year, they should have any little problems like playing classic games on a shiny new, over-priced console. Anyway since my ps2 is starting to pretty much die on me, it would be handy to have a ps3(if i bought it)to play the old games when I see fit, because I cant splash the cash for a ps3 game. So there is acutally the PS2 graphics and processor engine inside. On the Xbox 360 the compatibility is made through software. Xbox360 is good to apply antialiasing on older games, but PS3 is good in that the majority of the titles are compatible without software updates and the PS1 + PS2 catalogue is huge. dertyjerzian Posted November 29, 2006 Share Posted November 29, 2006 A little off topic, but to clear up some of the hype and propaganda: The PS3 is backward compatible through the use of not only a PS1 emulator, but also, the reason the thing is so big and heavy, is that it has an ACTUAL PS2 inside of it. That is why the PS2 was so big... it had an ACTUAL PS1 inside of it, until they developed a PS1 emulator, at which time they planned the PS2 Slim model. That's what takes up most of the PS1's size so yes it would be primarily the PS1's chips and hardware only inside the PS2 not any of the extra and already implemented stuff.
