SIP YEK NOD
Just a few updates on my ps3 situation pros: - GT:HD rox my sox off, but should have been a full game - Having the blue ray player sitting right there does mean going into walmart and looking at their next-gen DVDs means i can buy any movie in any format. i still get looked at like an idiot for buying one of each, and talked to like a child "you know the blue ray disk will only work in a blue ray player, and the HD DVD disk will only work in a HD DVD player, right" "you mean i can't just stick these in my VCR, and hit play?". in the end, the sony fanboys are kinda right, if you build it, they will come, if there is blue ray, it will be used. -its quiet - its not white! cons: - new-hardware woes round two. hopefully sony pumps out the backround downloads quicker than MS did - the dashboard and playstation store are horribly disorganized. demos, small games, the "play game" button all in the same list. the playstation store shows no room for expansion without a complete re-design - anybody who has downloaded a PS3 demo knows the blue-ray for gaming hype is total and complete bullsh*t. the ~600mb motorstorm demo contained the game engine, a large track, a pile of vehicles, and a few songs. what exactly is going to make the game take more than 9 gigs? and this is the best the ps3 has to offer in the coming months? - holy sh*t its big - 24 hours out of the box, you could clearly see dust. the 360 is going on a year with no visible dust. the ps3 is a f*cking dust magnet. - blast factor = hexagonal geometry wars without the wow factor. -the browser sucks total ass -guitar hero, guitar hero 2, enough said

The PS3 is black, 360 isn't. It's white and uses different material which is why you don't see dust on it. It's there....just hard to notice. Until there is a game with better graphics, better gameplay and something that makes use of the SixAxis, i'll stand by my opinion that PS3 really does suck ass. Cran.
Black shiny plastic is a magnet for dust and fingerprints, just look at the PSP and you'll see what I mean. Exactly. The PS3 is a dust magnet, there is nothing else to be said about it. Like on my Creative Zen Vision:M, black plastic scratches like a bitch. Hopefully this won't be a problem with the PS3, it's not like every is going to be running around with it, eh? @vinnygouveia Congrats to you, you made a funny. iRloading
ps3 is out of my financial league well... let's see... PS3 at LOCAL prices = 1,300USD (this is american) WII at LOCAL prices = 600USD XBOX360 at LOCAL prices = 650-700USD depending if it's *converted* now if I saved to buy myself a 360 or a WII to buy HERE (asia), I could've easily bought myself a PS3 in america (assuming there was still stock on the store shelves and not on ebay) but what I really want is a wii, so I'll just send my 250USD to the states so someone (family member) will buy it for me it's just the thought of local prices compared to retail price in the states besides, a wii sounds like a good gamble besides the x360 everyone seems to want one, so that should prove promising to third party game publishers

Muffins
Update: You all know the story of the Gameboy. Gameboy is released and no more than 6 months later; the all new smaller, brighter, better console is released: the Gameboy *Insert marketing name here*. Well would any other company dare try the same? Ok so Sony revealed it's secret MEGA PS3 Jargon for $2,500 - we all know only millionaires would consider buying. But any serious company? This may blow your mind but engadget has reported a bigger badder Microsoft. Not only this but -So what? nothing will make me buy one, I already got a 360 premium console (for Christmas?) OЯLY? What about a 120GB Hard drive? What about a new improved, cooler 65nm processor? What about an HDMI port for full digital 1080p? What about all this for the price of the current premium system? That is right, the 'Zephyr' would include all this shizzle for the meagre price of $399.99 (279.99GBP). I don't know about you but if I had of known this before Christmas I wouldn't have bothered buying a premium console, I would have waited. Come on a NEW PROCESSOR a BIGGER HARD DRIVE and PROPER HD? This is what I have been waiting Microsoft to do since the original release! I finally give in and bought one thinking they will never fix these problems and they go and *leak* this! This makes me slightly angry, but also happy as the new processor makes it better than Sony's half arsed attempt at a mega console. Its actually totally unconfirmed by MS so far, so lets not jump to conclusions. Regardless this "plan" is set for later on this year when naturally the consoles price will go down anyway so a "better" 360 at the current price isn't such a big deal when June/July rolls around. The new processor adds nothing to the console except running cooler and quieter, it doesn't improve performance at all. The 120GB HDD will most probably be available separately and as for the HDMI support you might find MS could release a converter that allows pre-zephyr consoles to output to HDMI which lets face it not everyone owns a TV capable of 1080p anyway so that only effects some of the market. This isn't anything new, the PS2 had updated versions such as the Slimline, remember the 360 has been out since late 2005 so its been out a while. RMT
<snip> Dunno about you, but I buy a games console for the games. Which (thanks to a cheeky headstart) the 360 has a better catalog of. And as a side-dish the 360 has a better online service for that catalog of games. As long as Sony don't f*ck up with the PS3 how they have with the PSP in the way of games then the PS3 should be a worthy investment for the future. Just at the moment if you want a next-gen system for games then the 360 is the way to go for at least another year. Pacrel Focre

Cran.
Also again:They may include the new HD-DVD player inside inbuilt. I was more intrigued with the HD DVD drive as a piece of hardware. I asked if we would ever see games use the drive. A firm "no." I asked if we would ever see a 360 with an HD DVD drive built-in. Another firm "no." No hesitation. "We don't want to charge customers $200 extra for something that may be the next Betamax," Henson told me (whoops). Source It's already been confirmed. The answer is no. As I see it, Sony is a major backer [of Blue Ray] and has lots of money invested in Blue Ray, so it's obvious that they're going to have it included in PS3 to shove it down the consumers throat. Microsoft is taking a smarter choice by having an optional HD DVD drive, which is optional to the consumer, keeping the price down. It's better for both Microsoft and the consumer in my view. Microsoft doesn't end up with a dead format (and in result, wasting a lot of money if that happens) if HD DVD fails, and keeps the base price down, and therefore raising the desirability and demand for the console. The consumer spends less, doesn't get stuck with a dead format as a primary drive and doesn't have to pay the extra money if he/she doesn't want to. Sony on the other hand simply has to have it built in. They've spent too much money and time with other companies to develop Blue ray. Only problem is, the PS3 is suffering from many supply and pricing problems. It's risky either way, that said. These formats have only come out. Having slower drives and read rates, it seems like a bottleneck not wanted in this generation. Especially for Sony who have a enough memory bottlenecks and a graphics card that is very un-efficient as it is. * True HD, not upscaled (At least thats what I last heard....) Incorrect. If the software running on the PS3 doesn't have a native resolution of 1080p and let's say it had a native res of 720p, the PS3 can't run the game/movie/whatever in 1080p, only in 720p or 480p. Source It's odd to see it—a tiny little chip—but this may be one of the secret weapons the 360 has against the PS3. The PS3 has no internal hardware scaler, which means games that are 720p native can only be shown in 720p or 480p; there is no scaling up to 1080p or 1080i. This causes people with older HDTVs to have issues with the available resolutions, and keeps them from playing the games in anything but 480p. It's a vexing problem for a system that's supposed to be HD, and this issue is one of the most challenging that Sony faces. On the subject of Zeyphr, I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft tried to do something with Core consoles to get them up to scratch (If the new core had a 20gb hdd), like offering a free upgrade to a 20GB hdd. It's probably never going to happen, but it would be good on a developers side; because they can use the hdd to cache and stream things (like that in xbox1) and also it would stop all the core customers feeling completely screwed over. Not that it would happen.. But what has caught my attention is the fact that consoles are becoming scaled down versions of PCs... Feature/Software wise, yes. Hardware? No entirely true for things such as CPUs and all. The CPUs in the PS3 and the Xbox360 are very stripped down to cut costs. Edited January 9, 2007 by Cran. Motion to ignore Sixdust comments? *As far as I know it doesnt have any difference. Actually it does, ask people who own Bluray or HD-DVD movies. The difference between an upscaled DVD and a HD-DVD or Blu-ray movie is amazing. (On 1080p of course...) Sony on the other hand simply has to have it built in. Many people don't understand that 2x in Blu-ray is not the same speed as 2x in DVD. That's new to me. In any case, IF the software is in 1080p, like some games and movies, THEN it means the PS3 Does in fact handle True HD. GTA3Freak-2001
@Cran - Just because MS say no about games on HD-DVD doesn't mean later down the road they won't change their mind. If the rumours of the Zephyr are true and MS are trying to close the gap that will appear between the PS3 and 360 then they really need to utilize the HD-DVD for more then movies especially if HD-DVD fails the movie section. Cran.
Many people don't understand that 2x in Blu-ray is not the same speed as 2x in DVD. (The same goes for HD-DVD I guess). Well duh, but it's completely irrelevant when the Xbox360 has a DVD drive that runs at 8x. That's new to me. In any case, IF the software is in 1080p, like some games and movies, THEN it means the PS3 Does in fact handle True HD. Well yes.. but most of the time, it won't be running at full HD. It's like saying I can run at 15km/h running down a hill. It's not always going to be the case. A lot of games don't support the full native 1080p on PS3 (Granted, same on the 360, but at least it can upscale) It seems like a bit of a con in that sense. @Freakeh yeah.. they could, but I don't see it happening. If HDDVD loses, MS won't support it. They can't keep making something obsolete. I doubt games will surpass a DVD-9 in this generation for general use. Maybe for some crazy stupid big game.. but apart from that.

If you weren't impressed by the Wii, I'd like to know the following: a. What Wii Sports games did you play? b. How long did you play each of the games? c. Did you actually give yourself a chance to adapt to them? 2. "Even though there is only like 2 good games out for it up to now" What? That's a GOOD thing. What does the PS3 have? "Resistance: Fall of Man" is the ONLY thing people can say, and it is not even a great game...it just happens to be the best of the crap pile of titles that the PS3 currently has. 3. The Wii rocks. I've played it for almost two months now. It is revolutionary. Agreed. PS3 best console you've seen? Have you even played one? I have. It's nothing special. RMT
HDMI compatible console confirmed, but only for research. Doubt we'll see it for retail this year then. Pacrel Focre
