jarjar
Boston’s hookers are divided over whether the MBTA should be running ads on trains for a video game in which players kill and rob ladies of the night. “I think it’s horrible,” said “Sage,” a Boston area prostitute contacted through her craigslist.org ad, about teens seeing the Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories ads. “It’s ridiculous out here nowadays. Just the violence among teenagers.” However, south of Boston, another hooker, “Nikki” said she likes nothing more than spending time away from her johns playing the same video game, slicing, shooting and robbing her way up the criminal foodchain. “You can actually pick them up, have sex with them and steal their money,” she said. “It doesn’t bother me.” Asked if she’s ever killed a prostitute on line, she said, “Yes I have. I kill everybody on the game. I don’t mind. It’s kind of fun. My friend said there’s even a way to play as a pimp.” City Councilor Mike Ross and two dozen other community representatives are asking the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority to remove the ads. Rosie’s Place director Sue Marsh commended the effort. “I think it’s great that they’re saying ‘We don’t want those ads on public transportation,’ ” she said. Source. If I remember correctly a similar story played out at the time of San Andreas being released as well. Although, it was more one faced, they all believed it was a bad thing. It is interesting though, people that are running a business that is indeed illegal are going off about a game and trying to have ads banned. I don't see how they have a case, but anyway... EDIT: Oh, and I also found this on the main "bostonherald.com" website: Looks like GTA: Vice City Stories is being blamed for this, I don't see how, never do I remember these things happening when previous GTA games we're released. Didn't see this until after I was about to post. Edited November 20, 2006 by jarjar
Pranjal
I think you missed on some of the earlier actions. Here: http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/grandth...tml?sid=6144286
-/TNT\-
Looks like GTA: Vice City Stories is being blamed for this, I don't see how, never do I remember these things happening when previous GTA games we're released. People are getting more and more prejudiced against video games, though, on the other hand noboDy blames TV series for anything. Ignorance is not bliss in this situation. IMO the wrong people are being blamed for the wrong deeds.
TheDude5000
Is this a joke? Lmao... So hookers are scared of random gamers coming out of the shadows and slitting their throats? They have as much of a chance of getting killed by a non-gamer, as they have of getting killed by a GTA fan. It's one thing when stupid soccer moms and whacked out lawyers are complaining, but now diseased hookers are complaining too? Pfft.
jarjar
Looks like Boston Hearald is having a slow news week, I just found this too: http://news.bostonherald.com/localRegional...rticleid=168126. It's new, and basically the same as before, bad mouthing GTA.
Canoxa
About time, I was this close to admit that Vice City Stories would go scandal-free.

TheDude5000
It's just a reach for new readers and attention by the newspaper, using stupid hookers who haven't a f*cking clue what they're talking about. We have enough of that from Jack Thompson.
simplyunkillable
heh, now jack will have an adopted daughter called "silkylade" or some sh*t, i wouldn't be surpised if he tried it. why the f*ck haven't we killed HIM yet? steal his station wagon and run him over, then brand the corpse with a hardtop-stallion shaped cattle brand. teach him who's bitch. Sly_Madman
I have nothing to say about the article itself, as it's normal for people to be up in arms about GTA. I just have to say "Hooker Split On Impact" is a hilarious headline.

"Should the T take down the Grand Theft Auto ads?" last time i looked the stats where, 46% in favour of removing them, and 38% saying theres nothing wrong with the ads. why the hell would anybody give sh*t, its only a game. Vanilla Shake
Do you see a hooker being slaughtered on any billboards or posters promoting the game? No. I just see artwork for some of the characters with a white background. Just because one video game lets you have sex with hookers and lets you kill them afterwards doesn't mean that everyone who actually does do that has picked up the idea from the game. scalliano
Don't see what the fuss is about myself. Hookers aren't the only people you can rob and kill - you can rob and kill anyone else and probably get more money for it ...
mageezer
They should really do some kind of study linking the activity in video games to its influence in real life. If they actually could be bothered to perform a scientific study on the matter with concrete proof that GTA leads to violence in real life, then I think they should definitely stop advertising it. Hell, maybe even stop making it. But I think we all no that finding any concrete evidence to prove the link between GTA and murders in real life is incredibly unlikely. Gta Master.
What?! Are you serious!? No one ever told me you could play as a pimp in the game!
PyroHazard
Maybe the rise of sexual assault against hookers isn't because of an inanimate videogame but because today's tricks are not putting out as they should.
Sable
lol Seriously, what kind of "study" can we realistically get? The main group of people pushing for this game to be removed are women - "my opinion is law" women who want nothing more than to force this opinion (not necessarily based on fact - probably picked up from a politically correct 'hag mag') on others. Don't like it, you don't have to play it! (or even watch someone else play it or allow your children to do so). Stop ruining it for others. mageezer
What?! Are you serious!? No one ever told me you could play as a pimp in the game! Not much of a "Gta master" then, are you? You can do pimping side-missions when you own a prostitution business.
