Hanney
Iv got a problem where in most games where when i start the game up it is really smooth untill the point where there is 3D graphics. It will be a good smooth FPS for around 10 seconds then it goes all laggy and warpish and the FPS drops right down and the sound makes crackling noises. Then around 10 minutes later it is usually back to normal although sometimes it just stays like this and is really laggy! Ingames such as Half Life 2 is the worst for this happening! Im not sure whats causing it. I can only think of the problem as memory or RAM or something but im not sure.. Heres my PC specs. GFX Card: Nvidia 6800 GS 512 MB AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+ 2.20Ghz 1.00 GB of RAM Latest Nvidia graphics card drivers installed aswell. I have also tried different drivers and it happens still. 3niX
Well... Does the crackling noise also appear when listening to audio and copying something at the same time?
|Zephyr|
I was going to reply as soon as you posted this but the forums have been down... I had this problem not long ago. I was using a 7600GT and it was lagging about 20 seconds into the game on BF1942... I thought 'this can't be right'. I took everything apart and reseated it, but still had the same problem. It turns out that when my external hard drive was plugged into a certain USB port it lagged the computer when gaming. I moved it to the USB port next to it and it's all good now. What I suggest you do is strip the PC back to the basics in the way of peripherals (keyboard, mouse, power and monitor) and see if your game still lags. If it does then slowly start plugging your hardware back in one by one and see if anything is causing the lag. If it doesn't, at least we have ruled this out
Forfit
That's a weird fix zehpyr . But you can be right, because on my mothers computer one USB port would recognize the mouse but not the Printer and the one right next to it would recognize both. It's kinda trippy. Anywho your computer is definately capable of running the game. Have you also tried altering the in-game video settings by any chance? And has this problem always happened or has it started occuring recently after you possible installed some other hardware/software?
Hanney
3niX: Err you mean just when im listening to music? Nah music is fine but if im ever listening to music on say a program like Winamp/WMP while the lag is happening the song loops a bit aswell. As for the copying part of the question iv completley lost you there sorry. |Zephyr|: I dont have any external hard drive but i do need an extra HD All i have in the USB ports is the modem and nothing else and i thought my wireless mouses wireless station thingy would have been plugged in there but its somewhere else on the back. ... Forfit: Yeah the game is able to run because after the lag period it works fine like a charm. You dont think that the motherboard has anything to do with this? Also i dont know if this is related to this or not but ages ago i had already posted about this other problem but i couldnt find much of a fix. The game used to crash and the whole PC would crash and the sound would loop over and over and then i updated my motherboard drivers and that kind of fixed it and the crashes were less frequent. I shouldnt say much or the whole topic would go haywire and it would be a big muddle!
3niX
Well... The reason I asked that is because it might be overheating or screwed memory. Just wanted to know what it does under stressfull operations. I cant really think of anything certain atm. though.
Hanney
I dont think it is though my graphics card temperature is usually around 60 at idle and goes up to around 76 when its being used. Also the case is off my PC due to my processor used to be overheating and its just been kept that way. In the case i have 3 fans. The CPU fan the GPU fan and an extra speed controlled fan on the inside at the back pointing down on around the area where the GFX card is. |Zephyr|
Yeah the case is quite dusty. Ill give a little clean around sometime while the case is still open. I didnt know dust could cause problems :x I didn't think it could either ... until my sisters boyfriend told me about his experience with computer dust. He was trying to burn a DVD, and every time he tried it just failed. So he tried CD's, but they failed too. He tried almost everything (reseating, different cables etc) Until finally he decided to clean the dust out of his CPU. As soon as he did this, the dvd burner worked fine with no problems at all. Which is why I clean out my dust every month or so.
