Jayce
I had GTA San Andreas running on Windows XP. I redid my computer, got rid of XP, and changed the operating systems around a bit. Now I primarily run Linux along with Windows 2000 Pro w/ SP4 for gaming. I just installed GTA SA and some of my sound isn't working. If I drive a car into a wall, I hear it, sorta. If I steal a car, I can OH SO VERY faintly hear the guy saying "get the hell outa my car man" or something like that. I don't hear the horn, however I hear the horn of other vehicles that honk as I pass them or hit them. I don't hear the car accelerating. If I'm on a straightaway at an airport and I accelerate, I hear NOTHING. The screen can be blurry as hell and shaking from doing 0230409430 mph, but I hear nothing. Any idea why? In my volume controls everything, wave, volume, front, rear, etc, is all set to max. I also reinstalled my onboard audio driver. No idea what else to do. It's strange... though I THINK I had this problem before. I can't remember if I did or not, though... let alone how I would of fixed it.
Jayce
Just for the record, I uninstalled it twice, both times removing any and ALL GTA related files. Installed a fresh copy, and nothing. I've tried other speakers, headphones, etc, nothing. I'm completely confused over what it could be.

gillies
What kind of sound chip is it? Is there a newer driver? If you search the internet are there any mentions of problems with it and this game in Windows 2000 anywhere? Or if there aren't, is there any information anywhere about general problems with any games and this sound chip in Windows 2000?
Jayce
No idea. I'm using the same hardware I was before. The only thing that changed was the OS, from XP to 2000... and I thought XP and 2000 were nearly identicle besides the gui and some eyecandy features. I have the most recent sound driver. I'm using onboard audio and MSI's site says I'm up to date. It's just strange. Like, getting in a loud car and driving, it gets silent. The only thing I hear is the occasional horn as I zip past a car. But I hear nothing from my car itself.
gillies
Well... Try deleting the gta_sa.set file in My Documents\GTA San Andreas User Files - even if you deleted the whole folder previously and if nothing changes after you run the game again then see if you can find some older sound driver versions and try some or all of them to see if it can be fixed that way. Wolf68k
Start->Run type dxdiag Click the sound tab If you have it as an option; set the Hardware Sound Acceleration Level to Basic No need to restart the system, but it wouldn't hurt. But for sure don't have the game running at the time.
