Freakorama
Well a buddy of mine From back in the old thps playing days made a converter for the thps4 levels to change them into .obj format to open in blender and with that .dff script i think that they shood go into gta, (but witch one?) They are untextured and i dont know how to get there textures on there so they might need to be compleatly re textured here are some renders These Levels would be a Dream for stunters! i dont know where to start but i guess they will need to be broken up into smaller parts then placed together Does anyone wanna have a crack at it? i cant do it coz i'm busy with my gta nny tc if you wanna do it ask and i'll send you the nesssary files Cheers

DexX
well, probably. We have rules against converting cars from other commercial games (ie, Need For Speed for example) and it would apply to these maps as well. Thats a big no-no here @ gtanet. DexX
didnt know converting from other games was not allowed so that means converting stuff from gta vc to san andreas is illigal too? no, it doesn't mean that. Conversions are allowed, loosely anyway, between the gta games. R* doesn't mind us poking at their files, because they are their files. The same cannot be said for other games, or companies. X-Seti
I cant tell what this map is, or what game its from. Before you convert this, get permission first, but if the company in question says NO, then don't do it, Yes on the other hand makes it perfectlly legal, and your need to include this infomation in your credits. . I'm waiting myself for permission to do future mods, and this process can take time. .

No, I think was DexX meant was "other commercial game series". Thus, GTA is one series, converting between them is allowed. Whether this is the same store for other games, well, I won't know. I guess it all depends on the developer company after all.
mickarrow
I remember back in the VC modding days, someone made the Myst island. Nobody cared if it was illegal or not. Did the policy changed over the years. Or did we forget to complain back then. Just wondering...
sonka
Hi, I think this isn't a very good idea, because of the textures. The converter should convert the materials too, because the materials include the textures for each object. Obj files are ASCII. and very primitive model file formats. An Obj model usually has an .obj file containing the mesh, and a .mat( as i remember this is the extension) file containing the materials for the mesh (and in it, the textures). So if you don't have the .mat file, or blender can't read it.. well.. you might texture the whole level yourself.. Search around the net for another THPS model converter. Convert it to .3ds or .lwo, I think this would be a better way. But this was just an opinion.

Those were modeled by the people releasing them. This is different. He wanted to take the file from THPS 4 and convert it to SA/VC/III as a map. He can't do that though, because (not sure how) it voids the copyright. If he doesn't release it it's not illegal. If he does, it is.
