Now that we have both a LCS and a VCS, the GTA PSP Series would feel unfinished if SAS was skipped. Again just my opinion

To make SAS fit on a UMD they'd probably have to cut out some of the features from SA which would actually make it seem to some that the franchise is going backwards. Also, they'd probably make the creative decision to leave out some of the really cr*p things from SA such as girlfriends and that would inevitably lead people to complain that they removed something that nobody liked anyway!

Yes, when people say San Andreas can't fit onto a UMD, it's like they're saying it'll completely be the same game. Most here didn't like the girlfriend feature and I highly think it'll be left out. Maybe some side-missions like Quarry, Trucking, and Burglary are gonna be left out for new ones. Now GTA3 and LCS weren't the same, VC and VCS aren't the same so surely SA and SAS won't be the same and people that say they are basically the same aside from the city itself basically don't know what they're talking about.

Seeing all the technical problems VC Stories has, I don't wanna imagine the problems they'd have cramming SA onto a 1.8 GB UMD. SA is just too big of a state for conventional portable gaming. VC Stories is a balance between the short, bite-sized bits of gameplay in LCS, and what we can assume will be long trip filled gameplay of a possible SAS.

I think this is where they need to do a completey new city, SA is just too big for the PSP. They need to replicate the gameplay of VC Stories. Not too short, and also not too long for a gaming system which has about 3 hours of battery life when running UMD's.

I dunno. I don't think it's the "cramming stuff on a 1.8 gb UMD" that's the problem. SA has 1.46 gb for non-audio stuff. VCS and LCS have around 400/500 mb of audio. Subtract a bit off the 1.46 by toning down the game a bit: because of better texture compressions, etc. And you have 1.8 gb of SAS.

It's not the size of the game that matters. It's probably the how to make it play well. R* sure better make a smooth way of playing SAS. Like keeping popup to a minimum, getting a stable framerate, etc. I presume this must be much harder with such a large map.

San Andreas is my favourite GTA game purely because of all the things you can do. The story isn't so good and CJ is my least favourite lead character, but in San Andreas you can start out in suburban LS, bo to a bar and play pool, play arcade games, then go to the store and buy some new clothes from the money you won at pool, then go to an airport and fly a plane over a military base, get a Hydra and have a dog-fight over LV, or around a particular large golden bridge. VC may have the style and the glamour, but SA had the variety. VCS has a smaller map and a smaller number of features and the game is glitchy as hell. LCS was fine because it was like GTA3 but with better features. VCS is like VC but with better features. I find it unlikely that if they made SA that they could match it, let alone better it to any significant degree. Also, as TheDude said, SA may just be too big for a portable game which is supposed to be played on train-journeys or whatever.

I like the idea of going back to San Andreas just like I liked going back to Liberty and Vice, but if the game is going to have less functionality than the original (say a lower height-barrier) then what's the point? The replayability would go down because you could do more things on the same map on a better, less glitchy, platform.

And with better control of other things they could bring back the ability to wall climb (Dunno why it wasn't in VCS, there was no real reason why it wasn't).

Yes there was, you would need to re-program and whatnot the entire city. It's not like the VC walls were made so that you could climb on it. SA was designed entirely for wall climbing, VC and LC not. Hope that answers your question.

Archaon, Lord of End Times

I do beleive they'll find a way to get San Andreas on the PSP. If they can't, though, I want a Las Venturas Stories based on the mob activities there. A plot like that of the movie Casino. I think it would be a great addition.

Absolutely, that would possibly be the greatest thing coming outta SA. Maybe a young Salvatore in the 70s?

I would abosolutely love this. Im a big Salvatore fan and if i had to pick one city for Rockstar to do out of SA, i would definetly pick Las Venturas.

This may or may not be a little off topic, depending on your perspective and how much of the topic you've read thus far, but SAS is definately more than possible for PSP for these reasons:

1: Sony has plans to make the PSP a yearly thing like iPods, where they release a better one each year for the set price of 200 dollars, a cool thing imho.

2: I have yet to see or read of any games that include installer packages that use a MEMstickDuo to inflate onto, sooooo Once the need arises, bada bing, someone will start making games that need it. Wouldn't be a problem cause there's no one worth selling games to that doesnt at least PLAN on getting a 1gig or better MSD.

That's IF games like SA won't fit anyway... I dont know the storage room on a umd, I'm guessing like 2 to 4 gigs...

what are you talking about? SA automatically judges the height of the map object closest to the player, and then calculates what the jump button does from there. nothing to do with the map files. the code (and animations) that do this could easily be ported.

The above post is completely true. Though with the map unchanged, you could get into more places easily, that would originally require a flying vehicle etc, and R* might not want that.

Carlito_Brigante shouldn't talk about things he has no clue about. If he did mean the above, then he should express himself better next time.

It's apparently 1.8GB dual-layered. From the stats that have been thrown around here in the past few months it seems like SAS could fit that size once they compress the map size to fit the PSP's smaller screen and mainly the audio files. The audio on SA was huge, but when you consider that they could compress all that to just the simple left and right sounds and leave out the sub-woofer and surround sound stuff you'd put on a console or PC version of the game.

But that wouldn't leave much margin for other stuff. New features and things like that could be added (assuming they remove unwanted features like the stats), but knowing that it would be a big game on the console that everyone would want means that Sony would also try and get them to put a firmware update on it too, taking up even more space.

Also, San Andreas is a huge map and my understanding is that they actually have to rebuild each of the maps for the PSP versions of the games because they can't use the renderware engine that the PS2 games were based on. Considering that they'd want to get the game out before GTA4's release next October (as if that will happen) it would be an awful lot of work to build the map again and program it with a whole load of new features in that time-frame. There would be very little time for bug-testing and we all know from VCS that they need to do that.

So to make the game it would take an awful lot of effort to make it fit on a UMD, make it function as near to perfect as they could and the replayability of it is going to go right down a few months later after GTA4 is released. Add in the fact that people would be saving up for GTA4 and not another GTA3 game and you have the potential for a loss-making game.

That's what I meant.......But they'd have to put that into VC, which they probably didn't feel like. Probably boils down to money anyways.

I'd hope that there'd be one more PSP GTA in the pipeline, but as with the original San An I imagine that we'll be waiting more than a year on it. As for what it is, I'd like it to be San An Stories, but hey, let's just wait and see, shall we?

Would you rather have no radio in GTA or a larger map? Removing the radio will leave a ton of room for the other large files like textures.

.DFFs (Models) range from a few kb to 100 or so. While texture files take up 600+ kbs.
